Otsikko: error trying to install Packages
Kirjoitti: mark.n - joulukuu 24, 2008, 11:28:41 AP
I have had to do a restore of the Forum files, I have ran repair_settings and everything seems to be fine.

However when i try to reapply my packages i get the following error.

"You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable! "

I have checked all the files and folders and they are all set to 777.

I have searched the forum and found a post that said that if i create a temp folder under packages that should work.
This does unzip the package now and looks like it was installed but it has not.

Any advice would be welcomed.

most be some problem with your server. no mod has permission to delete any file and folder. ask your hosting about this problem

Well , I tried the temp folder thing and got the following message..

"Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF. "

@mortymoose:  That is more of an issue with the mod itself, conflicting with another package that you have.  You can install it manually (more than likely).

The message before was saying that it was not possible to install the mod...this one says it is, but you'll have issues because not everything matches up.

Try to do a manual install, though...more than likely, you shouldn't have an issues, and it's just a matter of cutting and pasting...

mark.n, is this issue resolved now? You can try creating that temp folder a second time to see if it still removes it. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt for some reason. On top of that, you might also want to install this mod (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=724).

i have installed the Mod you linked, This has setup a temp folder but when i go to install a package it then takes a long time thinking about it and then returns an ie error.

The mod does say its installed.

Did you try creating that temp folder yourself and CHMOD it to 777 before you installed that mod? Try it again...
