Otsikko: Question regarding the resolution
Kirjoitti: pure1 - helmikuu 22, 2005, 12:18:54 AP
Hello,

I have installed SMF on my computer it works fine without any problem. The question I have is related to resolution hope some one can help or atleast guide me to the right direction.

My main site is splited in to 2 frames top and main. The top frame has the menu and banner while my main frame display all the contents. The whole site (top and main frame) is not spread out to the whole screen it leaves some space on left and right and both the frames are displayed in the middle. Now every time I click on a link (in the top frame) its content is displayed in the main frame with the proper resolution how ever when I click on the forums link which points to html/smf/index.php and target to the main frame it spreads all over and take up all the screen from left to right which makes it look realy odd since the top frame is in one set of resolution and the main frame is spread from left to right.

Is there any way I can make the smf forums to be displayed within the set of resolution instead of taking up the whole screen from left to right?

I would really appreciate it if some one could give some sugestion or point me to the right place where I can get some help to make this work.

Thank you.

The default theme doesn't really like frames in Internet Explorer.  It's actually more a problem with Internet Explorer than with the theme, I think, but in any case... I suggest avoiding frames altogether.  Having a banner always present is not something your users will, by a grossly generalized statistic, prefer.

Thank you for a quick reply.

I am not using frames just because I like them. The only reason I end up using frames was because that was the only way I knew how to have my menu up on the top all the time while the content is being displayed below. I have been testing out smf and I really like it. The problem is that I am trying to find a template that would simply let me have a simple site with the menus up on the top and content right below but I don't want to have it all spread out on to full screen. Just in the middle so users who have diff resolution set will be able to see it properly instead of scrolling to the right to read a post or so on. Plus I want the default page not be a forum but just a genral page where I can post news, pics and few other simple stuff. And when a user click on forums link up on the menu than the forums would appear below withought spreading all over the sreen, just staying in the same resolution and few other links up on the menu. Like this website is built the only difference is that the menu is on the left instead of on the top. Even though this site is spread out on to the full screen not in middle but still looks good.

I don't know how I could make one like that except using frames. If you could atleast point me where I can read all the material to build one on my own I am sure I will be able to do so. But the thing is I don't know where to look for or what kinda template I should be using that would not let me use frames. I'd appreciate if you could point out some suggestions on howto do this.

Thank you.

Sorry, I didn't respond earlier but I meant to.  The post I gave you has much of the material you're looking for; what further problems are you having?
