How did you install?
You can try re-uploading the files via FTP (except for install.php and settings.php) as it sounds like some things were not uploaded correctly

I've hit the same thing upgrading from 1.X to 2.X beta, and I think I have a good notion what the problem is.

What sort of safety check is put in with regards to if the admin(s) using a custom theme that isn't compatible?

Suffice to say, I tried a couple times to upgrade, always hitting this, and eventually deleted out all custom themes, uploaded the update, ran it, and boom. "Unable to load the 'main_above' template."

In my case, this update was brought on by that pesky copyright notice bug that appears.   Perhaps forcibly setting all users back to standard theme with the 1.X->2.X upgrade might be worth considering.

EDIT:   For anyone else like me t hat idiotically locks themselves out..   You can force reset your them by logging in as normal..   and then altering the end of the URL.
normally it'll be

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/            or
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php       for example.

changing it to:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?theme=1
Should forcibly reset your theme, or at least it did for me.

MeXP3yN, do you still need help with this problem?

Hart, if you do an upgrade, SMF will attempt to convert your theme files to work with SMF 2.0. I usually suggest using the default theme and installing any themes you want back manually assuming they are made compatible with SMF 2.0.

If this problem occurs on a new install, you might want to try uploading the files again as mentioned by H.
