Ah ok

It's fine to chmod everything to 777. Why Chmodding to 777 is NOT a risk. (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=2987.0)

If your host does not support that you can chmod to 755. I wouldn't really say chmoding is a security issue.
