I'm trying to set up a new installation of smf on a linux-host.
Everything seems to be ok - got database, php and everything working just fine - I can also log ind, and use the forum more or less.
- but when I try to do operations like adding a new board, I get the error 'Connection problems' - but in most cases the operation has actually performed when I go back to mainpage. I modified the script slightly, so I know now that the message is from mysql_connect, and the response is 'could not connect ..... (111)' - one time it was 'connection lost...'.
I know that this would often be due to a busy server - but database is on localhost, and I know for sure that it is not very busy...

OK, this seems, after all, to be due to a crappy network.
Setting the flag 'Use a persistent connection', in 'Edit Server Settings' solved this spooky problem

Strange. I couldn't think of what might be causing this - but I'm glad you were able to solve it.
