I'm becoming suspicious that fantastico messed enough with files that some of the mods won't work
I'm considering backing up 1.7 deleting it, then installing 2.0 (already love it and only had it a day)
Can I then import my 1.7 backup into 2.0?
If so how do I import a backup I've looked around and couldn't figure that out

Nope you can't,because database structures of both smf versions are quite different,that's why a database from 1.1.7 won't work on 2.x,it needs a considerably database upgrade, if you want to upgrade your forum & database to 2.x,then you should use the larger upgrade pack from the download site
