I just put up a fresh copy of SMF here: http://www.runescapetop.com/forums
And, in the Admin->Caching area, it shows me this error:
"SMF has not been able to detect a compatible accelerator on your server. "
That's odd because I'm 100% sure I have eAccelerator installed. Is it not supported yet in SMF 2.0 ? Is it a bug? Am i doing something wrong?
Here's my phpinfo() ... http://www.runescapetop.com/phpinfo.php
Newer versions of eAccelerator don't compile in caching support by default. There is a topic somewhere in the server board about what switches need to be passed when compiling the software.
Alternately, you can always use one of the other caching engines SMF supports.
Which do you recommend? - something that plays nice with eAccelerator?
I suggest to just replace eAccelerator completely. APC works well with SMF, many of the coders are also part of the PHP project, and it's an easy install via PECL.
I would also recommend replacing eA with APC. In certain situations eA will segfault, although this may have been fixed in recent eA releases.
