Actualy, when I receive a PM, is just this: "messages (1)"

For single user
Messages > Change Settings
Check "Show a popup when you receive new messages?"
For all users
Admin > Current Theme > Member Options
Change options for members using this theme.
Check "Show a popup when you receive new messages?"
