Otsikko: CHMOD question with smf
Kirjoitti: akya - helmikuu 09, 2009, 01:46:10 AP
When i was installing smf 2 RC1 and later when installing packages , i had problems with chmod permissions as setup said folder not writable.... 755 didn't helped, so I had to change chmod permission of each and every file/folder to 777 to install it successfully... Now everything is installed , up and running fine. My question is that keeping security in mind , which folder's , file's permission should be changed back and also changed to what? Can anybody help me on this?
Thanks....

Just go to Admin>Packages>Options

and set the file permissions there to Only the standard files are writable.

I did that but it is not changing file permissions from 777... can u tell me what are standard file permissions? I mean which files should be 777 and which should be 755 or 666 or whatever? Thanks for your reply

I asked the same question before and I never had an answer to that. Sorry.

Well if you set that option, it should change those that need to be to the correct CHMOD for the forum to operate safely.  If it's kept the file/folder at 777 maybe it's one that needs to be at the level.

What files/folders are at 777 that you think shouldn't be?
