Here is the deal.....I am using beta 4 smf 2.0.... this morning I used the small upgrade package to use smf 2.0 rc1. Well it went through its update no errors or prolbems. I had alot of mods installed and during the update it tried to fix some while others were not installed.
After the update I went into my board everything was tripled...the message index...the news fader....banners...quotes. My forum was tripled even the boards and logon in screens.
What can you recommend should I use the large upgrade? I also noticed that it put my post way over to the right. I backed up everything so I went right back to beta 4 smf 2.0 figuring someone might be able to advice me.
I would hate to have to remove all the mods just for an upgrade as I know some sometimes dont want to uninstall. So should I go with the large upgrade or what should i do wait for a better version of smf 2.0?
Why not just use the large install as well as you existing database? You would lose your mods however, the tables would still be in the database so reinstalling them shouldn't be a very big deal.
So i should use the large update or a fresh install then upload the database? Do you recommend just using a large update and unstill my mods?
Do it this way: uninstall all your current mods. If some of them will not uninstall properly then use fresh 2b4 files to over-write any that are giving trouble. Once the forum is back to plain 2b4 then run the upgrade. It should work without problems.
I know the upgrade script is supposed to be able to cope with mods but as you've found out it sometimes doesn't. The upgrade from 2b4 to RC1 is not a simple patch as there has been substantial restructuring. The same will apply to the upgrade from RC1 to RC2 and from RC2 to Final (assuming there is no RC3, which is possible).
I would advise upgrading to RC1 as it fixes several bugs that were in 2b4, some of them related to security.
