Title: Invision
Post by: CP on August 04, 2003, 03:11:22 PM
Not sure if this... oooooh just noticed the moving marquee button! Very cool. Sorry, small attention span.
Anyway, Hope to see a Invision converter here soon... but would also need a portal one if that is possible too?
I se from another post Jeff is looking into Invision converter. Is there a way (or need) to do so with portals? Probably not as most portals can be recoded or simple block script added.
Just a website coder dummy asking..    :P

Nope he is definately not the Benn from the YaPP site.

He still helps me out with graphics and stuff as well as ideas.

I assume you mean the "other" Benn.
I just realized the other Benn spelled his name with two (n's).
Nevermind.

Yes I am referring to the other Benn, the one that is from YaPP. He was a global moderator over there. And me and Eric where the 2 admins.

Not sure if he registered on this board yet, but he is a member of the YaBBSE community.

Sorry about this in advance but I disagree.
Chris, you were an admin and a nice guy there. Eric, well, he was reason two why I left YaPP/YaBB.
Good to see you around Chris.
Glad you are part of this project!

I didn't know that you left YaBB, but I do remember you leaving YaPP... you converted to TTCMS if I am not mistaken?

I tried it but was not for me.
Invision was one of the best boards I ever tried and they seemed to have a great support staff... but, things change!
* I apologize. This topic is getting of coarse. I did not intend for this to happen.

Back to the question...Unknown wrote the Invision converter and I'm sure it will be updated at launch for SMF.

As for the portal, that's a bigger fish to fry ;)

Jeff, will either you or unknown keep me in the loop on this?
OR at least update this thread with progress please?

Let's put it this way... I can upgrade to Invision's new RC2 release in a couple of weeks and YAUWS portal and live my life continuing to wonder and long for the days of yesterYaBB... OR.... ;)
I am at a MAJOR delima here guys and gals!
Anyone out there a recent former Invisioner care to sway me to SMF or visa versa?
I just don't know.. he whined!

:-\ :'( :-[

Either way Jeff, my offer still stands whenever you need it!
;)

I will be making the converter, yes.  I plan to have it come with it at release time.

[Unknown], can you PLEASE specify?
I am seriously on the edge on this one.

Specify what?

Wee! I'm famous! 8)

Heya CP.

SMF is 27.39% better than Invision... that specific enough? ;)

We wont be able to get any real comparisions until SMF is released (or a demo Admin Centre is set up), even from a basic user level there isn't yet a completed feature lock to easily compare.

Specify what?
Was just wanting specifics on why a user feels SMF is better than Invision.
Other than personal opinion. Like coding differences, options, etc.
Benn, you da man!
Good to see ya here. This board just get's better by the minute!
Even though I use Invision, I am a YaBB closet fan!
Anyway, this topic quickly moved from the answer to my questions but Jeff and [unknown] quickly answered my quandries.
No the wait begins........ ::)

CP - I believe there are comparison tables of features coming to allow easy comparison against other products.

Objective?  Not at all... :P.

Still, SMF is better!  I'm biased and I wrote a load of its code... but... it's better.

QuoteObjective?  Not at all... .
Exactly, so there's no point in writing comparison tables.. the conclusion will always be that SMF is the best choice  ;)

QuoteStill, SMF is better!
No doubt about that, ofcourse! :D

Out of curiosity, what was reason 1? ;)
Title: Re: Invision

Eric, not sure this should be dregged back up.
YaPP could not keep up with security holes, issues as it was a dev team of one and that team carried a attitude.
Many of us had our reasons for leaving YaPP. Mostly the same reasons.
That was the past. Now for the future!
