I have reinstalled the board, But now I cannot find how to restore the backup I made in Forum Maintenance.
so the board will be restored.
Can you get access to PHPmyadmin and upload direct?
You will need to use something like phpMyAdmin from your host or similar and use its import tool. Although I think there was a tool that [Unknown] made for making and restoring backups, but if you have phpmyadmin then it should be easy enough.
my host doens't offer phpmyadmin
Here are [Unknown]'s tools

thanks I have the tool and have FTP it .. stuck on this MySQL database
on the phone with godaddy now... still on hold.. waiting for needed info about this MySQL database .
godaddy and what SMF has on the MySQLdatabase is not the same..
not sure what is needed now
Is the old database still in place you could restore using that info.
SMF was installed from my host.. ( It did it on its own) we do not have Cpanal.
It was also removed from the host, Then reinstalled, Uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, and now once again Reinstalling it.
I have no idea where to even look to find a old database.. never even seen a datebase before..
when the board started giving me fits.. right before it went down yesterday, I made the backups from Forum Maintenance.. Thanking I could just reinstall it there again... after I reinstlled it.
what I don't understand is this
I have NO databases on my host.. NONE at all
But on the Forum I can go into "Edit Sever Settings"
and see
Server on which the database resides: myhostlogininfo
Database Username: XXXXXXX
(confirm)
Database Name: xxxxxx
Database Tables Prefix: smf_
I did not set any of this up.....
I have tiried to copy and paste this info But since I did not set it up to begin with.. I don't know the password.. and cannot use the backup restoration tool..
I have even tired to add a new password, and when I do that I no longer have access to the forum, and the only option I have then is to reinstall it.
Well you will need either a new MySQL database or at least to be using one you had previously. I don't know how far you are with your install and not having a cPanel is a real pain but go ahead and ask your host to set up a MySQL database and supply you with the following info for the database
username they set up
pass they gave the database
the name of the database they set up ie. example_smf
re-install SMF and enter that info and your all set.
:)
Well GoDaddy should offer some sort of method to access a database, even if it's not Plesk or CPanel etc
Here is the link (https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/faq/faq.asp?se=%2B&app%5Fhdr=&faq_id=517&topic_id=62&topic=Web%20Hosting)for GoDaddy's help page on setting up a MySQL database. Does that apply for your hosting plan?
I worked it out with a few tools from here, none the less, the backup data was bad, so there was no hope.
the site has been closed down.
Well I'm sorry to hear that Dustbunny.
It's just a shame you didn't hang around long enough before deleting your profile to tell us in what way it was "bad" as we might have been able to help there.
Lainaa
It was also removed from the host, Then reinstalled, Uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, and now once again Reinstalling it.
Maybe there's a lesson there.
check this out (similar problem). I have SMF 1.0.2 on my site. I performed a database backup and tried to load it on my localhost forum. Well, since my forum is an upgraded YaBB, i did so on my 'puter as well.
YaBB 1.5.5
SMF 1.0 upgrade
1.0.1 upgrade
1.0.2 upgrade
(all this just to mimic what i had on the server). Started phpmyadmin, restored the database - and it doesn't work!
How?
Whats the error?
Can we clarify :
Have the correct tables be restored?
If so, is the content correct on some samples?
Did the forum not respond at all?
If the forum was responding did you try any of the maintenance applications? (fix and repair, recount etc)
The more info the better the chance of identifying the problem.
Following your profile link I can't even find an SMF install to have a look.
