excellent mod!
I really wanted to use this mod, but it is not working for me as it installed correctly but not showing things that have not been read as I tested it with one of my staff. I was looking at your image you posted and you have a sent message but in our forum it looks like this
(http://www.mycoolimages.com/pics/83c0581c68d522284787c418a1b6a646.jpg) (http://www.mycoolimages.com/#83c0581c68d522284787c418a1b6a646.jpg)
I installed this on my 1.1.8 forum and it installs correctly with no errors. There is one thing that isn't working right for me. The first thing I visit my inbox it automatically changes every message to read. I sent about a dozen messages to my test account and the icon shows unread in my outbox. I login to my test account on another computer, I get the "you have new messages" notification and right when I hit my inbox every single message is shown as read. This of course is reflected on the account that sent the messages so it tells the sender they were read when they may not have been. Is this fixable somehow because this mod is highly requested?
This is a great module!!
However, the "unread" icon says "read" when the mouse hovers above it.
Would be nice if a switch allowed only Admins and moderators have this feature.

I have think understood correctly, and yes, you're right.
I think that this you say is the same thing happens to mnh8483.
When you go to read the PMs in SMF 1.1.X, shows you a page with all the PMS (or 10 or 20, I don't remember), then all was marked as read. And really you will going to read just one.
In SMF 2, it is possible to change this mode of view, and, for example, put a single view of PM. This MOD is more useful in SMF 2.
Initially I was not going to make this mod for SMF 1.1.X, but I thought it would be requested, and also ... isn't bad.
Why? because at least the MOD tells you if the person has come to see their page PM's.
Solve this, is in the hands of another MOD. And it is
View Single PM (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=535), and you can read this comment of Eliana Tamerin (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=292176.msg1927135#msg1927135).

LOL, I did not realize that. I will put how to change it more later.
So pretty , really nice mod ;)
Looks like a real handy mod.
I would also request an option to restrict to certain membergroups or at least Admins only. If I have to send a moderating PM to a member, it's good to know if it was read or discarded without reading.
Grazie,
Cal
I've installed this mod on my default 1.1.8 forum. And it works perfectly! My forum members and I have been hoping for a mod like this. And we love it!! Great job!!
I added the Single PM mod and I still have the same issue where when I hit my inbox everything automatically shows as read. I'm keeping the mod though because it's still way better than the old way so I'd like to say thanks for the mod.
I just install the mod, but i don't see any different :-\
I use smf 2.0 rc1 default theme
I check it out to send some one a pm, but everything is still the same.
no errors in the logs
single pm mod i cannot install, because its not for smf 2.0 rc1
What i can do that it will be works?
Wow, works like a charm on my 1.1.8... I've been waiting this mod for a long time... Thanks a bunch !

Yes, i can add this feature, it isn't complicated.
I don't know is, What image use to that case?, i don't have much imagination to imagine an image that says "you wouldn't know if it is read or unread."
If i use the image of "message unreaded" it could cause confusion; if i use the image "message readed" definitely cause confusion.
Should i use the image it was before? Does anyone have a better idea?

I don't see new icons. All messages are on read, but with the old images. I see no different when i install the mod or i don't have this mod.
I hope i explain it now right that you understand it :)
Ok, i understand.
Did the MOD was installed without problems?
Have you saw if there have been changes in the PersonalMessage.template.php?
Can you give me usertest and passtest?
It is not working properly for me either. Installed just fine. But, it shows all messages in the Inbox already as read.
How can that be fixed?

Nice mod.
Two small problems: 1. The ALT text is the same for Read and Unread images 2. No Title text is displayed on_mouseover.
Here's the fix:
Themes\default\languages\PersonalMessage.english.php
Find:$txt['pm_read'] = 'Read';
Add After:$txt['pm_noread'] = 'Not Read';
Themes\default\PersonalMessage.template.php
Find: <td align="center" width="2%">', $message['is_replied_to'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/icons/pm_replied2.gif" style="margin-right: 4px;" alt="' . $txt['pm_replied'] . '" />' : '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/icons/'. ($message['is_read'] ? 'pm_readed' : 'pm_noreaded') . '.gif" style="margin-right: 4px;" alt="' . $txt['pm_read'] . '" />', '</td>
Replace with: <td align="center" width="2%">', $message['is_replied_to'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/icons/pm_replied2.gif" style="margin-right: 4px;" alt="' . $txt['pm_replied'] . '" title="' . $txt['pm_replied'] . '" />' : '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/icons/'. ($message['is_read'] ? 'pm_readed' : 'pm_noreaded') . '.gif" style="margin-right: 4px;" alt="' . ($message['is_read'] ? $txt['pm_read'] : $txt['pm_noread']) . '" title="' . ($message['is_read'] ? $txt['pm_read'] : $txt['pm_noread']) . '" />', '</td>
Thanks :)

I've been thinking about this, and I think it has never been wrong (although I can change it to your liking).
The current text is: "Read".
It's different to: "Readed" or "Unread".
So I think the current wording isn't wrong. But, "I can change it to your liking".

Yes, because, without the MOD neither there is title text.
But also, i can add this if you prefer.

I'll make mention that there is no word in American English as "readed".
We use the same word spelling but pronounce it differently depending on how it is used, as in:
I will READ your PM later. (Pronounced like the word REED)
I READ your PM yesterday (pronounced like the word RED)
Hope this helps,
Cal

Perfect, thank you very much.
I am an English apprentice, and i only know as 'we learn in class' (I am not good student ;)) and i don't know the english people's (real). So I appreciate very much your comment.
As far as i knew, this word (readed) had existed.
Glad I could help. You do quite well, actually. The language is annoying complex, where there is an exception to every rule and every rule has an exception.
I've received similar help when I've used other languages, so it's nice to return the favor. :)
Perfect, thanks.

The MOD View Single PM (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=535) shows a "single PM", but just continues to mark readed the entire page PM's.

Thank you for hard work. Your MOD works as designed and perfect. Unfortunately, since last couple of months, I have spent a great deal of time on SMF 1.18 to work with over 40 other MODs and at this time I cannot afford upgrading to 2.xx. Otherwise, I would and certainly your MOD would be perfect.

Okay. Fine. It works with 1.1.9 with no problem, but could you add a feature to it?
Specifically, this mod only works if one has saved a copy of a message in the outbox, and the only way to check it is by going to the outbox. Instead, could you make it work more the way receipts work on email systems? That is, when sending a message, there would be an option to receive a receipt. Then, when the addressee actually reads the message, if the receipt option is set, the system would send a PM back to the sender, saying that the original message had been read.
That would be wonderful!
Thanks!

Doesn't look bad this idea. Although don't think I do so now, perhaps, in September I would have time for to do it.
In addition, the first time I read it, I thought it has a negative aspect, but at this point I don't remember.

Hello,
Thank you for all you've done with this MOD.
Before I install it on my site, I did have a few questions. I'm a bit confused on the language strings.
- Are the strings shown in the screen shot still accurate? I walked through the parse and didn't see text like "No read".
I did look at the text strings I found:
// PM Readed
$txt['pm_mod_read'] = 'PM Read';
$txt['pm_mod_unread'] = 'PM Unread';
$txt['permissionname_pm_see_read'] = 'Allow Know if the PM have been read';
$txt['permissionhelp_pm_see_read'] = 'By Enabling this, will allow know if the PM have been read.';
The last two strings aren't quite clear. If I may be so bold as to offer substitutes, assuming I understand what you mean:
$txt['permissionname_pm_see_read'] = 'Allow Sender to know if the PM has been read';
$txt['permissionhelp_pm_see_read'] = 'Enabling this will add information in the Subject column of the senders Personal Messages Index telling the sender if the PM has been read or not read.';
Hope this is helpful.
Grazie
Nice Mod.
Thanks
Here is the German:
// PM Readed MOD
$txt['pm_mod_read'] = 'PM gelesen';
$txt['pm_mod_unread'] = 'PM ungelesen';
$txt['permissionname_pm_see_read'] = 'Gelesen / Ungelesen aktivieren';
$txt['permissionhelp_pm_see_read'] = 'Mit dieser Funktion kann man sehen ob eine PM schon gelesen wurde oder noch ungelesen im Postfach liegt.';
Hi .LORD.,
Were those strings of any use?
Ciao
Hi,
I installed it in my 1.1.10 system tonight and it installed without visible error. Permissions for each group now shows an option to use the PM Read option.
However, I don't see any change in my Admin PM Outbox. Is there something I am missing? Another setting somewhere to turn it on?
Having the same problem as Cal.
Hi .LORD, i have a problem, install the mod pefectly, i have Single PM mod on, but ever show me the messages as "read".
This trouble have a solution??? I use smf 1.1.11 :-\
having issues with this mod (more specifically the images that go in the icons folder). When I try to upload some of these images, to that folder on my custom themes I get this:
(http://i48.tinypic.com/2m6o9eh.jpg)
Details:
(http://i50.tinypic.com/5dq9fk.jpg)
I have never had that happen before. Why would that happen? Confused because they uploaded to the default theme just fine..lol
Any Chance this could be upgraded for 2.0 RC2
Loved this mod on 1.1.10 was very useful.
Cant seem to get this to work on 2.0 RC2. Installed it with the package manager. Using the Anecdota theme
worked for me on RC2 default curve theme ....
fix was installer was trying to search for
./Themes/default/PersonalMessage.template.php
$next_alternate = 0;
the value for it in RC2 is
./Themes/default/PersonalMessage.template.php
$next_alternate = false;
just made this change manually n it worked perfectly ;)
Thanks, that fixed it in the template I use. I did have to upload the images to the images/icons folder manually
Nice Mod
Please update it for SMF 2.0RC3 ;)
Thanks
any chance of getting this officially updated for RC3?
This might be a dumb question but... How can this tell if they have been read if the person doesnt click reply. As the way the SMF is set up they just click the link of the message and it drops them down to it. ???
Not something they have to open really. Plus most dont even click the link they just scroll down. So how does this going to work. As i really would like this mod and just installed it but doesnt seem it would read right and show the email was readed. Plus how you state it will show as 'seen'
Doesnt seem it can or will be able to. I tested i9n my own mail box and well i had one sent to myself from newsletter and it shows as not read and i clicked it to go down to actual message and it still didnt even chage even tho i clicked the link.
So it seems only will work if person replies which in that case your going to know if it was read anyways. Because they replied. lol.
Will this work on rc3?

<td align="center" width="2%"><img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/icons/pm_read.gif" style="margin-right: 4px;" alt="" /></td>
On this file on RC5 only such code:
<a href="', $result['href'], '" target="_blank" class="new_win"><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/icons/profile_sm.gif" alt="', $txt['view_profile'], '" title="', $txt['view_profile'], '" /></a>

This only works if PM's are read as conversations right ?
I ask because if not then all new messages are diplayed when a user visits their inbox so a message can be inadvertantly labled read when it hasn't been.

only marks the message as read if it has been read.
go to your my messages>change settings>Display personal messages: use the option display one at a time.
if you select the option all at once, then your correct. all messages are marked as read each time you check your inbox
because in effect it does show all messages there for all read :)
Question, would it be possible to add "This PM has been read" in a threaded view? When I reply to a PM, "You have forwarded or responded to this message" is being shown above this message. On the same line (ofcourse only for sent messages), I'd like to see "This PM has been read".
Is this possible, please?

Is a great idea, maybe for a new version will be add this feature to the mod
Thanks.
This is a great mod!
Question: What if I send out a PM to multiple recipients? How does this mod handle that? If only one of the recipients reads my PM...is it still marked as read...or do all of the intended recipients have to read it before it is marked as read?
By the way...installed on an SMF 2.0.2 board.
Suggestion: Button option to manually reset PMs to "read" and "unread".
