CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers.
any ideas??
Chad
That means PHP or Apache... something down the line timed out.
Are you getting this only when trying to backup? I suggest you try my "create_backup.php" tool.

some members get this ocasionally while posting....
Back ups have aklways worked fine until a few days ago??

Are you using sendmail or SMTP? Can you switch to using the other?
Any chance of moving to sapi instead of CGI?

Sorry. Under Admin -> Edit Features and Options, you should find a section that talks about SMTP stuff. It will either have "SMTP" or "sendmail" selected; this is the method of sending email.
The other thing I mentioned is the way PHP interfaces with Apache. Basically, there are two methods. One looks like this: (forgive the ASCII art..)
[Client] <---> [Apache]
^

v
[PHP]The other like this:
[Client] <---> [Apache <--> PHP]The difference I'm trying to show is that with the first method (CGI), PHP and Apache are very separated. PHP is called whenever Apache needs it, and then goes away. The second method (sapi) uses PHP as part of Apache, and so it is always there, waiting for Apache to call upon it to do something.
The second way is more efficient, and may possibly solve these problems. With Apache, this is called "mod_php".

Well, you'll have to ask your host if you don't know... but this is the same information you'd put in a mail client, e.g.:
localhost
25
[email protected]password
No idea why this would happen suddenly; another thing your host should be able to help with, since SMF didn't change much there to cause this.

ok i got all this info.... this would assist me in backing up from the smf board??
Chad
No, but changing it could theoretically stop the problems from ocurring.
I suggest you use "create_backup.php" to make backups. Do a search, I've attached it a few times...
