Hi guys i was running SMF 2.0 RC1 on my website last nite. I added a new discussion board and when i clicked on "Add Board" i suddenly got an error 500 message. Now ive spoken to my server host and they said it was a script problem not a server problem.
So i deleted everything to do with SMF 2.0 RC1 (Had 2 Installed) then i uploaded 1.1.8 and went to install the script and now it still comes up with error 500.
Does any one know what i can do to solve this
Please make a .php file with the following in it:
<?php
phpinfo ();
And post the link to the file. Also give us your .htaccess code, if any, as well as your server's error log.
you have totally lost me now sorry
Make a file with the following name and position on your server.
http://www.easyfreecouncilexchange.co.uk/phpinfo.php
And insert the text I placed in the codeblock above - only those two lines.
i'll try but when ever i try to run a .php file on my server i get an instant error 500 message. works perfect on .htm or .html files though.
im pulling my hair out here

If a file containing nothing but those two lines does not function, point your host to it. If they still say it's a scripting issue, you will want to find better hosting.
ok give it a try. its the same link that you posted.
http://www.easyfreecouncilexchange.co.uk/phpinfo.php (http://www.easyfreecouncilexchange.co.uk/phpinfo.php)
have you checked it
Yes, sorry, was getting food :-p
I'd have to see the error log to know exactly what was going on, but it's your host's problem, really, unless you have a screwy .htaccess.
i will post my sites error log into a .txt file and attach it here for you is that ok
also when im in my file manager in my cpanel i cant see a single .htaccess file any were

my sites error log is attached for you my friend
That was less helpful than I expected, sorry : /
If there's no .htaccess file, then it is entirely the host's problem - either because of cpanel or their own configuration issues. I wish I could say more, but the error log is not providing enough. Point them at the phpinfo file and ask them what is wrong with the code there, if they don't get the hint, choose a more competent host.
well i found the .htaccess file. it was hidden from me. code is below.
# -FrontPage-
IndexIgnore .htaccess */.??* *~ *# */HEADER* */README* */_vti*
<Limit GET POST>
order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from all
</Limit>
<Limit PUT DELETE>
order deny,allow
deny from all
</Limit>
AuthName easyfreecouncilexchange.co.uk
AuthUserFile /home/easyfree/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd
AuthGroupFile /home/easyfree/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.grp
...odd of them to disable PUT and DELETE in htaccess rather than Apache proper... but I don't see anything messed up there.
I'm guessing, but I suspect your host screwed up their FCGI configuration. There's nothing you can do except either get them to fix it or move to a new host.
would you like me to post here what my webhosts reply is to all of this. its a hoot. even i know its server side
Heh, go ahead?
Do you have your database and files backed up?
well this is his only reply made at 5.45am canadian time.
"Did you have this script working before or is this a new script you just uploaded? I checked over your files and server it is a script problem not our server problem, try going to http://www.programmingtalk.com they know about scripts."
i did have back-ups but they have disapeared, everytime i add a mod or theme i always back-up i too was once a web host but it wasnt working out.
They're using mod_php. Cute.
Other scripts on their server are working, so I'm not sure what's up, really. Could be a timing issue, but if you really just placed that phpinfo (); bit there and it died, something is quite wrong.

Did you check them out my friend
Ok im marking this as solved as my web host fixed the problem eventually by deleteing my old account and giving me a totally new one.
Basically he took the easy way out.
Eh, they are probably running a hosting management solution - way too much can go wrong, honestly.
Good to know it got solved.
they are mate its called iHost. i used it about 2 yrs ago when i ran my own server, caused way to much problems,
can you create mod my friend
I usually work on my own stuff, to be honest, I have a tendency just to hack SMF raw >_>
What do you need?
can you turn my [tip/trick] (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=292997.0) into a mod for me please. make it easy for people to use. we will share equal credit for this mod
Maybe it's just me, but I always make a copy of the default theme to edit - I don't really find that mod-worthy, sorry.
thats ok mate not a problem
