I don't fully understand how the permissions work - my quest may just not understanding SMF since I am new to it.
I am using RC1 for a board for owners of a specific vehicle. I require registration and classify members into one of three groups; Owner, Past Owner or Prospective owner.
As a guest, most boards are viewable, we have one that is viewed only by Owners. I would like to change permissions for the Prospective Owner to allow them to post in only one of 5 boards, but want them to be able to view the other boards, and not view the Owners board (clear as mud ;))
Is there a way to configure a persons permission to allow posting in only one board?
Can anyone point me in the right direction
thanks
Paul
Go to Admin Center > Forum > Boards > Modify Boards.
If you want to change the permissions of your existing boards, click on the 'Modify' link for it or make a new board.
Now you can change the 'Allowed Groups' to prevent certain Membergroups to access that particular board. (Don't remove groups that should be allowed to 'view' the board)
Next, to allow certain members to only view discussions, go back to the Modify Boards page and choose Permissions. Now 'Modify' the group which should be allowed to only view the board, and remove all permissions under 'Post topics and replies to the board'
You can also use local board permissions. To define different permission for a single board than the global permissions.
Also the Online Manual is a great place to start for new Administrators
