Title: merge two databases into one
Post by: gman69 on February 20, 2009, 04:04:38 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm an amateur at SMF and most things web.  I would appreciate any help and or advice.  Thank you in advance.

About a year ago I started a forum and used phbb, it was up for a week or two when I discovered SMF.  I converted the phbb to SMF.  I guess when I converted it over I created a second database for SMF.  It appears that my forum has been running from two databases ever since.  Occasionally will receive an email from the forum that it cant connect to one of the databases, I don't remember the exact error message.

This forum doesn't have but about 250 topics, but I would hate to loose the information and the users.

Is it possible to merge the two databases into one?  I don't know anything about databases either, but I was able to create a new one for the conversion.  When I look into the databases, I see stuff that has phbb and smf.  In my control panel it say's that the one database is locked by phbb.  I can get into it with passwords, so it doesn't seem totally locked.

Will the forum run more efficiently with just one database?

Thanks again for any insights and help.

Greg

there is an unofficial merge-script available at:
http://resourcez.biz/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item7
never tested this myself, but it should work.

Don't forget a backup from boths forums / databases before you merge them.

btw, one SMF needs only one database.
