SMF should index in search engines just fine.

Of course there is more seo stuff that can be done. But there shouldn't be anything preventing getting listed,

link to forum?
have you messed/altered with the 'noindex' variable in index.template.php?
how long has your forum been running? it can take WEEKS or MONTHS to get initial few pages listed

" It's not getting listed at all...?! " ? none whatsoever or only a few?
Sites get a limited number of pages indexed, the higher the pagerank of the site, the more indexed.

are you using a robots.txt?
