we want to add some mods to our 2.0 forum but I've been told that they change the source code and that when the 2.0 goes gold for us to be able to update that the mods willhave to be removed and the source code changed back to how it was to begin with.
So my question is this true therefore making it a pain to put the mods in now and if so how long before this thing goes gold.

If you will only be using the default theme, installing the mods will not take a lot of work. You just have to make sure it's compatible with your 2.0 version (Beta, RC, Gold...eventually). You will need to reinstall the mods either way as each major release (Beta to RC to Gold) will require you to do a large upgrade (replacing all your current files) in order to update properly.
There is no timetable for when Gold will come out. We will most likely see RC2 come out first...
