Hi,

I've installed a test SMF forum, and cannot place it into maintenance mode because: 'These settings cannot be changed because Settings.php is read only'.

Now obviously I can change the CHMOD settings, but to what? They are currently 644. I installed the forum from my hosts admin panel. I suppose I should download a copy of SMF because they'll be some information there? - I'll try that, but if someone can answer this, it would be appreciated.

I've just checked the download, and there is no documentation regarding CHMOD settings and such. Is there some kind of manual covering this kind of stuff?

....Oh, and now I get 'Failed to make backup of Settings.php - make sure Settings_bak.php exists and is writable'.

This does not exist. I see from the download that it should reside in the top level foder, but it isn't there. Why might this be?

just download SMF 1.0.2 again and just upload the setting_back.php file to the same directory as Settings.php
