This modification will allow a guest to browse through all thread topics but if they will click
on a topic, it will ask them to register!

This module works nicely within the forum. However, it does nothing to lock down post information revealed via RSS or SSI.

I suppose that doesn't make the tweak inherently unsafe, but that is very incomplete as a security feature. It should really be underlined in the module description to be sure administrators don't think their forum content will be safe.

doesnt say a thing on rss, just topics forum-side.

however, i might look into that, at the moment I am a bit busy.

if you wanted, for security sake, if you were to disable guest viewing by boards, you accomplish the same effect.

I was fair brief above, but I will say that this functionality I've truly wanted for a couple years now, so I appreciate that you've posted it.

I probably won't have time to pursue it myself, but you never know.

Good thing I read thru the posts here  :D - I was going to tell you that your demo isnt working because I can see all the threads on your site..lol. You might wanna remove your demo link from your post so that people wont keep going to it thinking the demo will be there. :)

my mod effects the entire site.. not boards you can pick and choose from, like my buddy Depreciated.  O:)

as for the demo, once i get things straight from the mods i inherited from Babjusi, the demo will be straightened back out..

personally, i did this as a favor for a friend and thought the mod could be usefull for someone wanting their site shown, but member viewing only.  ;)

Nice Mod.

But there is a Way, to enter the Forum anyway:
When a guest click on "View the most recent posts on the Forum", the Guest can see the last pages full with postings.

Exist a way to hide this ?

Hi, seems to work fine with RC2 except if the user clicks on the recent topics from the info centre at the bottom and then it lets guests read the posts.

I have it on RC2 and the above doesnt happen to me :D

Errors on install etc.

In /sources/recent.php add is_not_guest(); as the very last line to prevent guests reading the recent threads link at the bottom of the page.

But I have a problem :
My bots can't read topics...

I set bot as Members...
I don't want to set them as Moderator...

You cannot have a method whereby spiders can see topics but guests can't. Even if you did somehow manage it, you can get penalised by Google for hiding content from guests but showing it to search engines, as one tech Q&A site discovered a bit back when it tried to charge people for the solutions to things but the answer was visible if you viewed it with your user-agent set to Google.

How does one configure this mod.

To install I had to emulate to 1.18, then fix the errors, then installed.
However, it's done nothing.

Have a look at your forums error logs and see if there are any errors.

A mod for 1.1.x isn't going to work properly in 2.0...

I don't have SEO or anything like that, so I am okay with spiders not indexing the site.

Good luck getting people to join if they can't see anything actually worthwhile.

Yes, this is what I wanted. However, because I have the "New Layout for Last Post Info" Mod installed, trying to manually install the mod, led to a template error and crashed the forum  :(

I tried this similar mod - "View/Enter Board Permissions" and it installed nicely, but the problem is guests can only see the index, they can't even click on category to see the threads within.

yes it's working charm in my SMF 2.0.8

really?   I would not expect it to be able to install cleanly nor work correctly given the many changes since RC1

The 2.0 version doesn't seem to parse with 2.0 RC1 but if it's anything like the 1.1.8 version there's nothing theme related so yeah, it probably would work without changes.

Yeh you are right there was no theme related issues. that's why this one work fine in SMF 2.0.8

I would be interested using this mod ,  if this could have an option about activation at specific Boards and not at entire forum.

My English is not so good so I may not fully understand what are the rules or steps to follow in this site (I had some mod`s rejected, although I hope to send them back to see if I get them but it's not the case), There is a problem and I respect your decision. Just chiming in to say this is still working great on 20.0.19 !! It would be handy to have the ability to make it only apply to certain boards with a permission though!
