Otsikko: using the word filter for abbreviations
Kirjoitti: meraj - maaliskuu 09, 2005, 09:27:40 IP
so i wanted to create some abbreviation shortcuts on my forum... an example would be if i type [hi], it would automatically replace that with "Hello, how are you?"... i tried doing this with the word filter, but it doesnt work. is there something i need to do differently, or is this not possible using the word filter? if not, then is there a way to accomplish this?

It only works if you don't have "Check only whole words" selected (still, it will only censor [hi] - not "hi", "[hi" or "hi]").

hmm.. i see. unfortunately i have to keep that checked for it to filter curse words properly... i.e., if i dont, the word "class" would end up as "cl***"  :( so is there another way to do it? is there some mod available, or could this possibly be something added into a future release?

Try the Custom BBCode Mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=48). (Haven't used it myself, though.)
