Boards in Cats

Version: 1.5 Date 2012-05-11
Compatibility: 2.0.2

NOTE: This theme will only install on themes that use the DEFAULT Boardindex.template.php. Maual edits will be needed on themes with custom Boardindex.template.php files.

Features
Allows you to divide your categories into boards.

Configuration
In ADMIN --> MODIFICATIONS

Size Tips:(because of margins around the boxes)
99% = 1 board | 49% = 2 boards | 32% = 3 boards | 24% = 4 boards | 19% = 5 boards
Note: Number + % = fluid width. Number (without %) = fixed width.

Height Tip: The height setting controls the overall height of your name/description/child board area. You should make this as large as your largest board so that all your boards are uniform in height.
Note: use a whole number only. No % sign needed.

Needs a 1.1x version, and should really be optional.

I don't plan on working backwards.

??

Is "optional" a comment on a feature you would like to see within the mod, or do you mean this should be a standard SMF feature?
Title: Re: Boards in Categories

What i mean is,  some forums should show it in that format, and some forums can be normal, i mean this is a great feature, but i have boards that look better with it, and some without it.

I'm not sure how I could do this on a per board basis. So you're saying you would want a home page like:

Cat 1
- Board 1
- Board 2
- Board 3

Cat 2
- Board 1 - Board 2 - Board 3

Cat 3
- Board 1
- Board 2
- Board 3

Yeah, something like that, so it's optional on each Catagory.

To add on what im suggesting, ill propose what im in need of.

What im looking for is to be able to have the standard SMF layout, but for Game Server forums, have them how yours is styled, maybe alittle smaller than how yours is, but you get the picture. Because of how neat it is, and i have many game server forums, so it would make it look tidier.

So yeah, how you put it would be nice.

Standard SMF, and being able to use your style too, but in set catagories.

Unfortunately I would not have time at the moment. However, per my "Want My Mod? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=319677.0)" thread, if anyone would like to take this over, just let me know. Please see the restrictions listed in the WMM thread as to what I ask in order to take a mod over.

Hey there!

First of all, I am no longer supporting any modifications of mine that I have offered up for grabs to get new developers. On the same note, anyone who attempts to re-distribute an update of this modification without written permission from me will be breaking copyright laws.

Best Regards,

I've had several things come up in my real life which have taken me away from my web life. I'm opening ALL of my mods up to anyone who would like to take any of them over. HOWEVER, if any are taken over, I ask that an original credit to me be left somewhere in the description, and I ask that NONE of the mods will become paid for. I built the mods as free mods and I ask that they stay that way. As for credit, a simple "Originally created by KahneFan @ ipostyoupost.com" is all I ask, then you can credit yourself the rest of the way.

Edit: Also, if you are taking over a mod, please only take it over if you are going to do/fix something on it. Don't take it over if you're simply going to put your name on it and then let it sit as is... I can do that :P

Will you be charging someone to take over this mod I provided for free?

Okay, the disclaimer on my handing my mods over is that if you ever decide to delete it, or hand it over to someone else, you must send me a PM and offer it back FIRST.

Let me know when you've updated it, and I'll hand it over.

No change  :(

If ya look at the attachment you'll see the tidy board mod in action.

The area surrounded by the red line is where the board description should be (nothing else).

Title: Re: Boards in Categories

I think my BoardIndex.template.php was built very, very oddly compared to most. Almost all of the mods I've used that remotely need to edit BoardIndex.template.php always have errors and I have to manually install.

But with this mod, it's basically all errors and I'm basically all cross eyed trying to figure out how to make the file edits before installing (Haven't installed with all the errors.)

So the long story short is, would anyone be willing to try and help me edit my BoardIndex.template.php to make this work? Because I really love the idea of this mod, I would love to see what it looks like on my forum too. I understand if you can't help, however--people have lives and code to code and stuff.

Thank you!

Hi DA,
I appreciate you picking up this mod - I like the way it looks and works.
I am using the overviewlight_20a theme and the columns in it look really nice IMO.
The problem I'm having is I'm not sure if the theme I'm using is "dynamic" (not sure I am using the right term to describe auto scaling for each viewer's screen resolution)
When I check the site on a different machine with different rez the categories no longer line up and look rather shocking.
Does this mod auto-scale?
I can PM you the url to take a peek if you like.
Title: Re: Boards in Categories
Post by: Diego Andrés on July 31, 2014, 08:25:53 PM
It is not responsive/auto-scalable.
And I think that not worth the time to update it at this moment, but probably for SMF 2.1 the mod gets updated and obviously redesigned
Title: Re: Boards in Categories
Post by: Rk2910 on August 01, 2014, 05:57:06 AM
After a little digging the OverviewLight is not responsive either - it's set at 990px Wide.  Not sure if a theme has a vertical setting. So I wonder why, depending on the rez of the PC I'm looking at the site on, the columns are either the way I set them or out of whack?  When I say out of whack, it seems the size (i.e. 247) has visually changed and the cats are not the same size anymore. Any ideas?   The rez on one of my PC is 1600x900 and the other is 1900x1080.

UPDATE: Well a little more digging is that it is not a rez thing but a browser thing.  I sized the columns using FireFox/Mozilla and the out-of-whackness is when I view the site with IE.
Title: Re: Boards in Categories
Post by: Arantor on August 01, 2014, 06:00:04 AM
Because like all DzinerStudio themes it's set to a fixed width by default. That's generally how they design them.

Title: Re: Boards in Categories

Title: Re: Boards in Categories
Post by: Rk2910 on September 05, 2014, 08:30:18 PM
So I have weird update - even though I really like this mod, I uninstalled this theme and my forum still has the columns like I had them set previously.  Any idea what file I need to poke around in to remove the code? (Waiting for the next update)
