I have just installed linux, so it's time to try and install SMF.  :) I have a problem though.  :'( I have chmodded all files & directorys 777, but it still fails.

Seems as though SMF can't be created. I go to set up everything... then it takes me to this FTP thing saying:

LainaaSome files need to be writable for SMF to work properly. This step allows you to let the installer make them writable for you. However, in some cases it won't work - in that case, please make the following files 777 (writable):

    * attachments
    * avatars
    * Packages
    * Packages/installed.list
    * Packages/server.list
    * Smileys
    * Themes
    * agreement.txt
    * Settings.php
    * Settings_bak.php

Click here to test if these files are writable again.

Now, what am I supose to do? (Please note that I host my site off my PC on linux)

If it's an admin I'll be happy to give you FTP info, SHH etc etc.

This bit of info is on the install.php install script just to remind you.

If you can't get past that message, then it's not just a reminder.

Prohibited, are you sure you don't have a different permissions system at work on your computer, perhaps?  Basically, whatever user Apache is running as needs access to write to these files and directories.
