Hello there! I'm currently designing the second version of blackTed (http://pixelslot.com/skins/?skins/blackted.html), originally designed in 2006 for SMF 1.1 RC1. And now this new version was designed from scratch (for SMF 2.0 RC1) but with the same style of the original blackTed with some changes. As soon as I complete the icons for this theme, it'll be released.
I've attached the screen shot of the theme. Please comment. I'll setup the demo site very soon.
Which header style is better? Is it the original version, or this version?

personally i cant stand the smf header and first thing i do with my themes is remove it so i will have to say i prefer the original header - plus the original header looks a cleaner method of adding a logo/banner into the design enabling people to add there own logo to the design
Thanks for the comment. I'll make it look like the original version soon. I'm hoping that I can make other original theme very soon since it's been a while that I have released a theme for SMF.

Looks nice. Personally I'd be inclined to move the time logged in to just below the date in the same small text and move the search box up under the menu. You could also ditch the magifying glass icon as it only performs the same function as the search tab anyway.
In fact I'd even think about ditching the input button for the search window as typing or pasting content requires using the keyboard so it's easier to hit the enter key instead of going to the mouse and clicking the input button. I think this is how most people use search windows in practice. With the seperate icon and button gone you could use border: none; in css for the search window and put a background image with slightly rounded corners behind it. This would give a much more up to date look to the whole thing IMO. The relevant coding changes are very easy to do.
