Sorry to tell you that it doesn't seem to calculate the remaining time correctly, at least on my forum.

The date for the countdown event is 9,5,2009,18,0 (September 5, 2009 at 6:00pm).

My current forum date & time is:  July 12, 2009, 01:25:50 PM

Countdown timer says: 1 month 24 days 20 hours 5 minutes remaining.

A great Mod!
Would it be possible to use the Mod as a Windows 7 Countdown timer until the official Launch Date? it would be a huge pro on my Forum!.
The best place to put it would be the Header section, looking like this:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi36.tinypic.com%2F2vuh8qx.jpg&hash=b2772d51349d980d44078b701080fe6b8c8df5ae)

Any help would be appreciated.

Something similar is happening on my board whereby this mod does not take into consideration my time offset.  Is that normal or should it?

Cool mod, unfortunately if you quote it, you can see the text (only logical I guess). I solution would be to make it unquote-able till the timer expires.

Instead of just adding translations, can you please sort the code so that it displays the correct amount of time remaining..... At the moment it's useless as all the calculations for weeks, months etc etc are wrong!

Try setting it up so it uses a period of a few months for the countdown - the result that it displays is garbage. I'm sorry to be so negative, but until it shows the correct time remaining for periods of a few months or more it's useless. I canot be the only one who has noticed this MAJOR bug surely?

Regards
Eddy

I'm having problems with this mod calculating the correct times.

I have

Tipping Closes In [countdown=3,11,2010,22,00]Now Closed[/countdown]

Which should be 10pm tonight, yet last night it was showing the "Now Closed" text, as it should when it gets to 22:00 on the 11-March.

Server time is GMT +10, so I don't believe that this error is server time related.

Update for 2.0RC3

Installs fine on RC3, but the date and time it displays are STILL WRONG!!

I have it setup to countdown to an event on 19th september 2010 at 10.00am - My computer, and my host server are both set to GMT, so I have no idea where this thing is getting it's base time/date from, but it's 1 day out, and the hours and minutes bear no relationship to the setting that is selected....

I've reported this before and it was just ignored, so I'm hoping for a better response this time!

For me this is not factoring in the time offset of where I am in the world in relation to the server time which is -7hrs GMT.  So unless you are in the same time zone you either have to calculate the offset or just have your profile's time the same as the server, which is pretty pointless.  When I used this in versions 1x that wasn't the case, it used to calculate you time offset accordingly - what happened?

CountDown BBC Version 1

That was the version I used to use before ungrading to version 2.  The code doesn't look dramatically different but it definitely did calculate the offset as we used it to timeout games on my forum.

It's no biggy I suppose but I wanted to have a countdown to the world cup  :-\

Great Mod! Seems to work fine for me. I did a few test using different dates and the calculations were correct. ;D

One request. In my case, I'm entering the code as [countdown=1,18,2014] without any time reference. The result for this example is "1 day 11 hours 40 minutes remaining". It would be great if when no time reference is given that the result is returned in whole days, in this case is would read "2 days remaining".

What is the difference between the free and paid versions?

Translation to Finnish. Maybe the mod is not updated anymore but you can allways copy this to Modifications.finnish-utf8.php
Huomautus käyttäjille: ensimmäinen luku on kuukausinumero.

// Countdown BBCode MOD by SID-Giessen; suomennos /RJ
$txt['countdown'] = 'Countdown (Esimerkki [countdown=8,14,2009,13,23]Teksti[/countdown])';
$txt['cd_year'] = ' vuosi';
$txt['cd_years'] = ' vuotta';
$txt['cd_month'] = ' kuukausi';
$txt['cd_months'] = ' kuukautta';
$txt['cd_day'] = ' päivä';
$txt['cd_days'] = ' päivää';
$txt['cd_hour'] = ' tunti';
$txt['cd_hours'] = ' tuntia';
$txt['cd_minute'] = ' minuutti';
$txt['cd_minutes'] = ' minuuttia';
$txt['cd_remaning'] = ' jäljellä.';

This mod appears to have been affected by the 2.0.12 update (not tested it with 2.0.13 yet, that's my job for this afternoon).  The [countdown] tags now require some (any) text to be placed inside them otherwise the whole thing disappears when posted, as though it's being sanitised.  Any suggestions to solve this are welcomed, but I also wanted to leave a heads-up for anyone else experiencing the same issue.

[countdown=MONTH,DAY,YEAR,HOUR,MINUTE][/countdown] no longer works
[countdown=MONTH,DAY,YEAR,HOUR,MINUTE]type something here[/countdown] does work.

Can anyone update this mod for 2.0.17? I have it installed and it appears to be working but after the mod install it goes to the redirect page and this code appears:
<div style="padding: 10px;"> <div style="border-bottom: 1px dashed; padding-bottom: 5px; width: 300px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Installation Complete!</div> <br /> <p>Congratulations</p> <p>Countdown BBCode Version 2.0.2 (Free Version) was just installed successfully in your SMF.</p> <br /> <p>If you later encounter problems with this mod, simply visit our support forums at: <a href="http://forum.sid-giessen.de" target="_blank">http://forum.sid-giessen.de</a></p> <br /> <p>Hope you like the mod</p> </div>
Then it redirects you to the Modifications Settings page when it should go to Post and topics>Bulletin Board code. And the setting in Bulletin Board Code IS there so it CAN be turned on and off. But like I said it does work on the forum so not a big deal just wondering.

I got this working on 2.0.17 & 2.0.18 a while back and forgot to update my post above. :o

Anyhow, is there any plans whatsoever in the future to update this for 2.1RC3 or later or is there another version of this mod I'm not aware of? Thanks! 8)
