I have installed this mod on a Star Trek site that I run and I have a question.

Is there any way to rename/customize elements of the game so they are more suited to my forum, for example, instead of "Land" i would have "Star Systems", instead of "Monsters", I would have "Enemies", instead of "Shop" it would be "Starbase 118", so on and so forth.

I have peeked at the database tables, and I can't see any way in there to do this, so is it possible and if som how?

I have installed it, and everything is going awesome, except that I cannot add monsters....

I'll attach you the screen so you can help me figure this out.

Thanks in advance

Post by: LINK on August 23, 2009, 10:04:57 AM
Oh, problem fixed, seemed like the subfolders were not created when I installed the mod, but I have updated manually and everything seems to be working nicely!

Thanks again for this mod man, and if you allow me, I'd like to make a suggestion:

1. Only members who have bought any kind of attribute will be the ones able to see the stats on the rest of the members.

Also, I'd like to contribute by translating this to spanish, which files do I need to translate and send you?

And, is gold given out randomly or is there a determined value for each action that the user makes?

First let me say this battle mod is a great feature :D.

I have only two bugs and it isn't too bad,but annoying...

When I try to add a monster it says error...no info on the error.

Also when I try to sell land it it gives an error on line something.

I tried the fix you posted on your forum and that did not work.

hmm weird idk whats going on there you uninstalled the old one first right? and error in logs?
Yep and no errors in the logs.

Edit: NVM I just had to remove files and eidts manually.

Then reinstall it is fixed now =].

Hey I just downloaded the mod and it works great. uninstall and install went with just a few clicks. I think it even cleared an error that I was getting with one of my thems about profile info.

Any way I thought I would mention that when I installed new version it kept the old game stats and battles. The one thing that it doesnt keep is the upgrade. It shows that I have 550/100 attack and such. When you go to upgrade center it starts out at upgrade to 100 or something like that for 250 points. So you have to start all over for upgrades. No biggie. Just thought I would let you know.

Are there going to be any more quests?

Ok I have a couple of issues. When a battle takes more then one turn the member gets this error message.

Also when I add a quest, the percentage of success actually makes the quest the same level.

I don't seem to have these options, so I'm wondering if this has been changed or if there is something wrong with mine.

All that is in my shop are the following options:

XAttack Boost    100    Gives You 100 Attack    You Have
Max Attack
XHealth Boost    55    Gives You 55 Health    Buy Now

~Can you tell me what the 100/100 in stats means.  Is it 100% or 100 points?  I ask because if you have say 75/100 health and you buy health power of 55, you do not get 75 + 55 = 130, you only get 75 + 25 = 100, so you can't have any more than 100.  So if you die, and have zero and then purchase 2 x 55, you only get 100, and not 110.

Is there somewhere I can change this value?

thanks

        <img border="0" src="',$settings['images_url'],'/battle/shield.png" alt=""/> '.$txt['battle_statsD'].': ',$message['member']['atk'],'

I think that in the second line logical to do "def" instead "atk":
<img border="0" src="',$settings['images_url'],'/battle/bomb.png" alt=""/> '.$txt['battle_statsA'].': ',$message['member']['atk'],'

sa battle 1.0 beta6 realsed

fixed missing draw image
fixed some spelling
fixed typo in display.template.php
fixed guest veiwing and permission bugs
fixed Real_name shoulda been real_name typo in gravyard.php
fixed when bying hp from the shop not deleting from graveyard if there
fixed userinfo was wronge
Explore battles have almost the same concept as user battles.
Explore experience is calculated by the monster experience cap and factors in attack and defense. (Meaning if your allot more better than a monster than most likely no experience will be rewarded.)
First attack for monsters. (Gives the monster the ability to attack before the page is even loaded, like a surprise attack.)
Removed run from monster functions. (The prove useless since a user can easily navigate away from the page.)
Replaced run from monster with just a link to explore.
Shout box is only a buddy shout box now. (In game buddy communication.)
HTML in quest and custom explore now supported.
You can only see users of the same level in the battle user section.
You can still attack any level. No experience though for attacking lower levels.
You can only heal buddies in the grave yard.
Explore tiles are now loaded automatically. (No need to enter them in the battle control panel.)
A few bugs fixed, like some hard coded values in the script.
added option in game settings to show only budies in shoutbox
shop will now allow you to buy multiple [of the same item] items saving on server load
fixed box buyng not working correct
chnage default monsters to lower levels
sanatised amount input in the shop

Ok, fair enough... except that I've now killed several more monsters, including several Skhilled (which took many attacks and seriously wore down my health), and still not a single experience point.

I can't help but feel that either A) something is wrong, or B) it's so hard to gain experience and move forward in this game that it'll bore my users.

in sources/battle/battle_explore.php

find
$slay =  $user_info['mon_slays'] + 1;
after add
$exp =  $user_info['exp'] + $modSettings['exp_def_mon'];
updateMemberData($user_info['id'], array('exp' => $exp ));

I found the untranslated lines in this modification.

Example in file Source/Battle/Battle_Battle.php:
<strong>'.$context['battle_target']['real_name'].'</strong> and taking '.$this_dmg.' '.$txt['battle_game_pm_msg1'].'';
Look at the phrase «and taking».

I think that is logical to make this change:
<strong>'.$context['battle_target']['real_name'].'</strong> '.$txt['battle_game_lost_you3'].' '.$this_dmg.' '.$txt['battle_game_pm_msg1'].'';

Similar defects with the same phrase in 2 more lines in the same file, as well as in the files: Battle_Explore.php & Battle_Explore_bk.php...

Please correct this in the following versions :)

I installed a fresh copy of SMF 2.0RC3 on a subdomain on my server, to give this a test run and whatnot. Just to see how it operates.

While I am impressed by what I've seen on other forums that have this feature, everything installs fine on my end, up until the installScript.php file part. whether it is either a manual install, or package manager install, I get the following error that appears.

constraint failed

File: /home/generati/public_html/gn-battle/forum/installScript.php
Line: 554

This is what I get on that line. I opened up the file with Notepad++ to find the exact line. The image below, is of what is on that line.

I ran a second check. It's claiming it is a database related error. However, since this is a fresh install, and the database is still new, I don't see what the problem is, nor why this error is happening.

I'll have to go back and check it again, to see exactly what's wrong. I'll get back to you, if I find the root of the problem.

It now started to work on it's own, and install properly. Looks like it fixed itself. Thanks for the help anyway.

I had it installed for over 5 months now, it's here: http://duke.xadro.net/index.php?action=battle
you have to be a member though.

Anyway, one of my friend had to fix many things like gold glitches (stop people from reloading and getting more gold) then there was a bug where you get more gold then the money (something like that), etc.
But, I think that was the old version but anyway, we fixed all the bugs in the old version (I'm pretty sure).

I'm trying to add custom monsters using my own images. I've already uploaded the .png images to the /battle/monsters directory for all themes. When I try to add the monster image the image does not appear.

Any help?

I am running SMF 2.0 RC3 and have installed you SA battle mod. The mod seems to run very smoothly but I have noticed a bug in the Custom Explore/Actions. When I set up the outcome actions and rewards, they do not record properly when played in the game. Gold seems to work well, but if you have gold in one outcome and stamina in the other you only receive the gold. If stamina is in the first outcome, and is the outcome that you receive, it will not register anything. If gold is the first outcome and you receive the second outcome, it will register the gold instead.
Any new changes you make to this mod (or any of you other mods) will make my little site even more interesting. Thank you for your time and effort!

Mod still needs alot of work though Sleepy. Here's some of my suggestions;

Quote
A character inventory

Characters should have inventorys so they can store items in both their backpack and armor\clothes on themselves.

Crafting

Find supplies out in the wilderness and craft items\armor for your characters.

Multiple tileset worlds

Having players visit different worlds with different tilesets would be interesting, moving from say, the plains to a barren desert with better monsters.

Achievements

Achievements could be set depending on the players stats - so if they reach level 60 they unlock a achievement with a picture\name. Or they kill a monster.

Mounts

Players could buy mounts\vehicles which will stop the player using up too much energy when traveling. So a horse or a car, depending on the theme.

More than two outcomes

I would like to see at least 4-5 possible settable outcomes to the players actions.

Monster Type

Currently there is no way to show what type of monster it is (Vampire,undead,human,monster,evil) etc.

Tavern

Much like the shoutbox but abit more indepth, talking to players, buying drinks for each other and gambling.

Explore field

I think this could be expanded more, so you could visit a tile and if someone at the same time is there, open up a chat with them.

Characters

Id like to be able to make characters i.e. name, race, avatar\picture of character.

I think it's pretty dum using the profile name, and this way you could have multiple characters.

Can you release a patch in the next few days which fixes the energy exploit? People on my forum when doing quests, just refresh while they are doing a quest so they do not loose any energy, and where you gain exp per quest they level up very fast. Can you fix this please? It's somewhat of a urgent bug that needs to be fixed.

i have a few questions here:
1,what do you mean by
QuoteAmount to add every 3600 Seconds
How Much Users Get Every 3600 Seconds
member get 1000 cash every 1 hour?
2, is the experience need to level up the same for every level, if is how do i set individual, or set formula

3, can i disable the member attacking each other option, how O_O? cuz this might harm their relationship with others

4,
QuoteEnable to send a PM when you are attacked (Recommended to leave disabled to save bandwith)
Enable to only see buddies in the shoutbox
how do i remove these options, so member can't see it

What do each of the stats do?
Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Kratty256 on January 23, 2011, 08:28:51 PM
Attack is how much power you have when attacking a member or monster. The higher your attack, the more damage you will be capable of dealing.

Defense is how well you can defend yourself from monster or member attacks. The higher your defense, the less damage you will take.

Stamina is what is used when you explore. You loose stamina each time you attack a member or monster.

Energy is what is used when you quest and for each time you explore.

Thanks. I installed it just for the fun of it, to let members play with it a bit. Of course the questions have already started coming, how to do this and that, and I have to tell them well, your guess is as good as mine. With no tutorial provided, I might have to axe it just to avoid having to become an expert on the thing to answer all the questions. But we'll see, maybe it's all so intuitive that no documentation is required. ;)

Battle RC6 released!

This is a pretty big release, so it is highly recommended that you uninstall any previous versions of Battle and install this one.

The newest feature in this one is monster range, here's how it works:
The "range" (can be set in Battle Admnin) must be less than or equal to the users' current level. If it's greater, it will throw an error saying that the monster is out of range.
Title: Re: Battle

Not quite understanding you. Is this when you add a monster?

Attack and Run Away are both buttons used when you encounter a monster when you explore.

Package has been updated. Forgot to change the version from BETA to RC6.

I get this bug too, not being able to attack or runaway from a monster with range. Please fix it.

Can i also suggest that you add:

Jobs (Same thing as quests, under a different panel)
More quest outcomes (2 is not enough and gets boring for the user!) If there were at least 5 then outcomes and doing quests might be more interesting.

Ability to add more images to for the monster panel would be nice too! Ive replaced all the default monster png files and have no more space for new ones.

Sounds and music would be nice as well. Music which plays in the background which does not get interrupted while playing and sounds upon outcomes\attacking monsters.

Property - Being able to buy a house, this could effect how much health you regain on your own as well as energy.
Property Upgrades - Being able to buy a training centre (To regain attack), fields (Gold income), (Bed Types - Energy) etc.

Inn - To rest and regain stamina.

Monster and player abilities - E.g. A dragon can breath fire which goes against your fire resistance (The less you have the more you get hurt) Player abilities could include certain moves which are more effective against different types of monsters.

The ability for quests to have images.

Weapon and armor equipts (Buying better armor and weapons which effect and add to your attack and defence)

@Ken. Ban removed. :)

Mod finally uploaded(thanks Sleepy), here is the changelog since release candidate 6:
There is the option to upgrade now so you do not have to uninstall and then reinstall it. Just upload the package and click the [Upgrade] link next to the newer package (it will have a red circle next to it).

The last host I was on (ariact) is going to shut down soon, if you have an old version the links will not work and eventually the scripts in Battle Admin will not work either. Upgrade as soon as possible!

Oh rats I forgot Final Quest wasn't ready. Can't believe I left it in for this release.

Use the file attached instead. It also includes a bugfix being able to get negative stat points.

When attempting to upgrade (Max Attack) but that element is already maxed out it throws an error page and this error displays in the forum error log:

Quote../index.php?action=battle;sa=upgrade;done

Oh right I added a new text string in the beta versions.

In Battle.english.php and Battle.english-utf8.php
Add this line:
$txt['battle_upcheat'] = 'Cheating is not allowed.';

Great game!  I just installed it today for the first time and the users are starting to experiment with it.  One of my huge gamers had a few suggestions for the author.  I'll pass them along, but realize that I have yet to play it myself so know not of what he speaks of!  Thanks!

Suggestions:

- Energy should be used each time you attack a player, otherwise it'll just become a game of constantly having to pay to rez when you come on from people like user xyz
- Once you defeat a monster, have a quick way to return to the explore menu
- In the "history" box, or somewhere easier, have a list of people online that you can attack or a link directly to attack them. It's rather cumbersome to go into the forum to find a name and rez.
- Establish a 24 hour free item that each new player can use to stay alive and try out the game.
- At each new level, restore attack/defense/health. Also, add the stat when it's upgraded. Have attack go down when you try and complete items while out of stamina, defense go down every time a player attacks you, and that will expand the use of those items in the shop and make it feel less like you're wasting 50 bucks for a small upgrade.
- Display the health of the person you are targeting. It does this for monsters, it should do it for members.

Awesome stuff and I look forward to more like this.

QuoteEnergy should be used each time you attack a player, otherwise it'll just become a game of constantly having to pay to rez when you come on from people like user xyz

Stamina is used when you attack a player is it not?

QuoteOnce you defeat a monster, have a quick way to return to the explore menu

This can be done rather quickly, I'll get this done ASAP.

QuoteEstablish a 24 hour free item that each new player can use to stay alive and try out the game.

Would this just be for new users? Are you suggesting that new users should not be able to die after 24 hours?

QuoteAt each new level, restore attack/defense/health. Also, add the stat when it's upgraded. Have attack go down when you try and complete items while out of stamina, defense go down every time a player attacks you, and that will expand the use of those items in the shop and make it feel less like you're wasting 50 bucks for a small upgrade.

This would make things super easy.

QuoteDisplay the health of the person you are targeting. It does this for monsters, it should do it for members.

This can be done rather quickly as well, I'll do this ASAP as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, I should have enough time on Saturday to at least look into all these.

Hi, just came across Battle on some forums I frequent, and was so frustrated by some things that I had to come here and log on to mention them.  Keep in mind, I don't know which of these are due to the way that my forum admin implemented the system, and which are coding issues, so please forgive if any of these are not your fault.

1) Getting gold in this game sucks.  Killing monsters gives none, killing players gives none...so it basically only comes from random encounters with creepy old men offering you purely luck-based chances to earn money?  This is particularly annoying because it's very easy to outlevel your own money supply and sit around with a Defense of 20/45 for a long time while you save up to buy those stats up to their maximum.

2) Explore costs 2 energy.  I have 2 Energy.  I cannot Explore.  What gives?

3) Having to press a button to level up is...strange. Why not have it happen automatically?

4) The fact that monsters out of your range can catch you offguard and kill you dead in one hit -- and then tell you that you're out of range and need to come back later -- that's just wrong.

5) The ease and frequency with which the above happens makes the whole permanetly-dead graveyard thing a really annoying 'feature'.  Is there an option for HP/energy/stamina regen over time?

6) PVP in this game is crazy.  I logged off for the night with full HP, and came back to find that a higher-level player basically just attacked me endlessly until I was dead...and now what?  Can we have like a "you can't be PVP'd until you (try to) attack another player first" kind of option?

7) Speaking of the Old Men, you can activate their luck-based powers even if you don't have enough money on hand to do so.  That's actually a saving grace, because it means it's easier to get out of the no-money predicament, but it's still a rather disconcerting bug.

8 ) It would be really nice if the basic options menu told you how much of what stat would be removed by a particular action (such as -2 Energy/-1 Stamina per Explore, or whatever.)

9) The fact that you gain experience per round of battle (rather than per kill) means that it's much, much more profitable to only stay and fight creatures that have low ATK/high DEF than it is to take massive damage and only get 1 XP for a high ATK/low DEF creature.

10) If a non-combat event brings you below 0 HP, your HP actually goes negative.  To compound the problem, while you can't attack an enemy with negative HP, you can still Explore and have non-combat events happen normally.  If you get Surprised Attacked by a monster, your HP resets to 0 and everything works normally, but that's the only thing that can keep you from Exploring indefinitely

This game has the potential to be seriously addictive, but the basic balance level needs some pretty serious attention before any more bells and whistles get added. :)

Check in your database to see if the table "battle_champs" exists after installing this package.

You need to uninstall any previous versions of Battle before installing this one, if you just upgrade it won't create the new tables.

I have a suggestion. Can you make a item which colors the users name with a glow effect when they buy it. Obviously it would be very expensive but give the users something to play for. Kinda like achievements. Another could be allowing the user to have a custom title or have access to a forum.

Hi,
i report this problem.
Probably is only a "my" problem.
The battle button menu seems to disable the other remaining button (such as Admin, Users, Private Message, Exit...etc...).
This is for the Core Theme but also for the Default Theme...

I' ve search in the BattleHooks file but I don't know php language: i think that this problem is related to this passage:

// Buttons/tabs
function battle_menu_buttons(&$menu_buttons)
{
global $context, $modSettings, $scripturl, $txt;

/*The menu button hook is called AFTER smf cycles through the existing array and does
permissions checks You will need to do them yourself in your hook
if($context['allow_arcade']){
//button code
}
so ive moved the admin tab*/

// Insert after Profile tab.
battle_array_insert($menu_buttons, 'search',
array(
'battle' => array(
'title' => $txt['battle_tab'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=battle',
'show' =>  true,
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
'active_button' => false,
),
)
);

What does it mean?

Thank you!!

I'm watching...
Anyway I see that also in the Administration Panel i get errors: in the attachment you can see that there are non visible many functions, such has Permission, Maintenance etc...

If I modify the hook file disabling (with //)the code, the menu returns visible.

Now i'm verifing errors, wait...

preserve_keys parameter is for php 5.03+ only and the use of null as a length is incorrect (may however work in a windows environment).

in sources/battlle/battlehooks.php

find

$input = array_merge(
array_slice($input, 0, $position, true),
$insert,
array_slice($input, $position, null, true)
);

replace with

$input = array_merge(
array_slice($input, 0, $position),
$insert,
array_slice($input, $position)
);

Well I don't know if anyone is working on it, but if there is I would like some additions of possible:

- Quests are oddly done. They have the option for multipart quests, but you can't specify which quest it continues to. Also when a quest is finished the player's stats are reset (refilled like Stamina and Health). Those should stay normal after a quest is done. I also want to add an option to the quest if it is repeatable, so if it's an important quest that has a nice reward, but too good to let it go multiple times, it should be hidden once completed.

- Also damage output needs to be refined a bit, it is a little confusing what makes the amounts.

That's all I can think of at the moment, if I find anymore I'll post more of it :D. And also thanks in advance for any help you can provide :).

Quite fun, my members are enjoying so far.

Quick question though.

Is there a way to set pm notifications for attacks ON by default? Right now you gotta manually go to settings -> turn on.

Would anyone be interested in carrying on this project, bug-fixing mainly, if they were paid to?

Say a £100? ($152)

I'd be happy to take it up, bring a freelancer in because it's got huge potential, my members love it they've been addicted since I installed it. I'd feel almost cruel uninstalling and taking it away from them now haha.

Unless someone has done something similar that's more stable, I'd be happy to pay a freelancer to bug-fix at least, and then after that perhaps look at re-writing.

Hi SA

I know that you have lost interest in this project and I respect that. I also wanted to thank You for taking the time to take this mod this far. I'm currently running your mod RC7 Rev224 under SMF 2.0.4.

There are only two bugs left (as far as I can tell) that prevent this mod from running beautifully or at least in a more than decent way.

This one also posted by Masrit
Quote
Don't know if this has been reported. But you can glitch (or cheat) your stats by trying to add a new point to a stat and when it says stop cheating click back and the newly added stat is still located there. (so you can loop this forever and add as many stats as you want without the need to advance in levels)

Fog did mentioned of how to fix it but so far nothing has come up.

Now could you please tell me if there is an easy fix for these two bugs or if you could just give me some hints on how to go about.

Maybe some else on here knows how to help me (us).

Thank you

You're right SA....

Now it's fixed...

I'll just post the fix here

Under the BATTLE_EXPLORE PHP Code:

Find

$context['battle_message'] .= '

'?action=battle;sa=explore" method="post"> <input type="submit" value ="'.$txt['battle_return_explore'].'" /> </form> '.$txt['battle_or'].'<br />                <form action="' . $scripturl . '?action=battle" method="post"> <input type="submit" value ="'.$txt['battle_return_home'].'" />';

replace with

$context['battle_message'] .= '

<br /><br />'.$txt['battle_game_102'].' <strong>'.$context['battle_target']['name'].'</strong>. <form action="' . $scripturl . '?action=battle;sa=explore" method="post"> <input type="submit" value ="'.$txt['battle_return_explore'].'" /> </form> '.$txt['battle_or'].'<br />                <form action="' . $scripturl . SA...Can you help us on the Menu Button.

It seems the Button won't go away if you delete the game.

What I'm looking to do is have a redirection from one site to another...

The idea is when I click on the Battle Button it takes you to the test site we have and I can use that site to host the Battle Game.

Don't know if this is a bug but thought I'd mention it... I just installed on my test site to have a play  :)  I started exploring, opened some magic boxes, encountered a couple of monsters, attacked and won some experience points, then I encountered a monster named Underdog.  I clicked "Attack" and got the error message "Refreshing is not allowed, go back to the main battle page" - not word for word as I'm reproducing it from memory, but you'll know which error that is.  I certainly did not refresh the page, I just clicked "Attack".

Awesome!  Quite customizable too!

Suggestions:

1. Add the ability to allow for more "random" results when creating custom "explore" (which should be renamed "encounters" IMHO)... two possible results is OK... but I'd think it would add quite a bit more "depth" to allow for up to 5 or even 10 (or maybe even allow the admin to choose how many) possible results.

2. Add a counter for "battles"... don't just pop up with the result.  Give the impression a "battle" is happening.  Perhaps include something like: "You are battling (monster name)" then every 1/2 second add a period . . . . and then after the 5th period (or what not) then have the result kick in.  Give the impression that "something" is happening.  It would also "slow down" the game a hair... which is a good thing IMHO.

3. Weapons... this game screams for weapons and the ability to buy/sell them... to the shop and each other... and the ability to choose which weapon to use to do battle with.

ChalkCat,

  For version 1.11 ensure that you did not press the browser back button (the arrow at the top left) whilst in explore, battle nor quests. It should not matter as it will not allow you to go back but use the links in the battle nav bar to be sure. I have not encountered the issue you speak of but I will run some tests to see if I can duplicate it & resolve the issue.

FrizzleFried,

  Thank you for the suggestions and they are good ideas. A counter to add a small delay while battling and exploring?? Yes I like that idea.

  I also thought about the idea of adding some sound. Also to have it display the enemy and user icon whilst in the middle of a battle. Are these good ideas? Would you people like to see things like that? The sound can be optional of course.. perhaps one of the user settings.

The sound idea is good as long as there is a way to turn it off (you KNOW some will complain!)... :)

I really like the idea of the enemy icon and user icon popping up.  Could go hand n hand with the time delay idea.  Show one icon vs the other icon with the delay count down in the middle... perhaps this is where the sounds could play (armor sounds,  swinging sounds,  hit sounds,  miss sounds,  etc).

I like you're idea of being able to add weapons.

But....There is the element of surprise in this game and you'll see that you've been caught off guard.  At that point are you subject to sticking with a default weapon or are you allowed to change up your weapons after you've been caught of guard to match up better with the monster?

Possible bug... (I only have minimal mods installed but I do have other mods installed SO....)

DISABLE BATTLE does NOT removed the BATTLE option from the menu,  but rather redirects to the forum index when clicked on.  It should remove the BATTLE option completely from the top menu bar... right?

It has always left the BATTLE button when you disable the Game,  Maybe we can come up with a setting that would remove the BATTLE button in the future.

Also remember to uninstall the MOD before you delete it or the BATTLE button will always be there until you go and manually remove it.

FrizzleFried,

  Yes it is something I overlooked. The edit is very simple if you want to fix it...

File: Sources/BattleHooks.php

find:

// Insert after Profile tab.
battle_array_insert($menu_buttons, 'search',
array(
'battle' => array(
'title' => $txt['battle_tab'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=battle;#battle_main',
'show' =>  allowedTo('view_battle'),
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
'active_button' => false,
),
)
);

replace with:

// Insert after Profile tab.
battle_array_insert($menu_buttons, 'search',
array(
'battle' => array(
'title' => $txt['battle_tab'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=battle;#battle_main',
'show' =>  allowedTo('view_battle') && !empty($modSettings['enable_battle']),
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
'active_button' => false,
),
)
);

  It will be fixed when I release another update but I am not ready to do that at this time until more changes are added.

SilverKnight,

  Thanks.. it will improve as I develop it further.

Thanks for getting back with this mod, is very cool!

Testing it in localhost, there was a problem with it. When I installed it, throwed the following error:

QuoteAn Error Has Occurred!

It installed, though it doesn't work well (character starts dead, and there are a lot images broken, checking them they all have 0 bytes). Might it be a problem related to the mod packaging?

BGH,

  I see the issue with a new user starting and I will fix this shortly. As for your other issue with the error, was it during the actual installation or afterward when adjusting things in the battle admin perhaps?

kasey_john,

  Yes this sounds like a permissions issue. One must adjust the permission setting for every membergroup to allow their users to play Battle. By default, the admin (owner) has permission to do everything.

ChalkCat,

  I have tested the explore mode in the 5 most popular browsers and can not duplicate the issue you are having atm.

  An update will be coming this week to address the issues reported so far. Thanks to all for your interest in the mod and reporting any problems you come across.

Title: Re: Battle

BGH,

  If it was after the installation and in the Admin then you most likely attempted to enter a non integer value where an integer was required. This of course should have been checked in the source file whereas this is now fixed for the upcoming version. Your image problem sounds like you either installed a theme after installing Battle or when installing Battle you must have not check marked the necessary files to install in other themes (ie. the one you are seeing the issue in).  Battle requires its image files to be put in your custom theme's image folder & the installation will do that so long as you check mark the necessary checkboxes for it to do so.

  An update will be released shortly that addresses all issues reported to me thus far. It is being tested atm and I will release it when the testing is complete and successful.

Title: Re: Battle
Post by: BGH on August 26, 2013, 11:50:09 AM
^ That's odd. I've never entered a non integer value, or at least, not intentionally. This happened after pressing the Install Now button in the Package Manager. And about the images, I installed this on a custom theme and checked the checkboxes before installing this mod, but doesn't seem related to the theme, as this error shows also when installing this mod only for Curve theme (SMF's default). I had a previous version of this mod, which I uninstalled before installing this new version. There wasn't a single trace of that previous version of this mod when installing this new one.

This is what I found on the Error log:

Quotehttp://***/index.php?action=admin;area=packages;sa=install2;package=Battle_v1.11.zip;pid=0
Wrong value type sent to the database. Integer expected. (mon_range)
Function: require
C:/AppServ/www/smf/Packages/temp/installScript.php
Line: 1304

And there are a lot of Undefined errors, too.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your answer.

Best regards.

! fixed helptxt grammar for campaign permissions
! fixed installation for when previous version (v1.0-RC7-2) was installed (monsters table needed values added)
! time inputs for battle campaigns no longer need 0 prefix for 1 - 9 hour (24 hr clock) entry

  This updated version is mostly aimed at bug fixes that were reported. Thanks to all who provided the necessary feedback.

Cyberhost,

  The mod contains 3 language files (6 if you include the utf-8 files). You will need to copy and change those file names to be compatible with your forum's default language. Then you can edit and translate the text as necessary.

Stats seem wrong.  See attached image.  Every person on that ATTACK board has not played the game once yet they all are set to 100...?

Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Chen Zhen on September 06, 2013, 03:36:15 AM
FrizzleFried,

  The installer now sets those db columns in the member table to some defaults. The starting defaults are 100 for atk, defense, etc. so that new warriors/members that participate with Battle will be able to fight buy some items, etc.

  Since you just pointed out that some admins may want to set their own defaults for their users default Battle stats, I have updated the mod to v1.13 with some extra options. You can go to Admin -> Battle -> Members and while editing any member/warrior you will see 2 descriptive check boxes on the top of the template. If you opt the one on the left, whatever you set in the stats will become default for all new warriors. So you can edit someone that has not played yet and check that box and it will setup all new members with those stats and also make them defaults for anyone that registers later.

As someone who's run a couple text-only browser-based games, I have to say this looks promising. I'm tryng it out, etc.

A couple things I'd personally consider "requirements" for an overall great gaming experience...

1.) Yes, Gold for defeating enemies. It could be set by the Admin on a monster-per-monster basis, or the gold given could just be based on the monster's stats and automatically calculated.

2.) Monster Descriptions. We need these. Sure, you can create a monster called "The Zelvrax" - but what is it aside from a picture? We need a Description option to put "A Zelvrax is a tremendous spider-creature with the head of an infant. It likes to feast on human blood." -- or whatever.

3.) Easier editing for Admins. I not only want to be able to change the map graphics, but what they are. I'm not happy with being restricted the "Swap", "Forest", etc. as the locations. There's a lot of stuff like that which should be changable via the Admin panel.

4.) Better explanation for what things are. Most of this is literally just tossed to the Admin with no explanation of what they're editing.

5.) Echoing what someone else has said, the random events need more than two outcome options. There should, ideally, be an "add another outcome" button under the two so Admins can make whatever number works for them.

6.) Players do indeed need an inventory, and there needs to be more types of objects. (Weapons, wearable objects, etc.) But really I can see why that would be a bother for development. How about just for now having a "Trophy Room" for players, displayed on their Profile or wherever else, that just shows useless objects attained during play? IE: A Dragon Horn, because you defeated at least one dragon... A Gold Trophy because you defeated a certain hard monster... etc. All the better if it keeps count of how many you have, though one is probably enough for bragging rights.

7.) There should be the option to fill out a text box on the Admin Monster interface that customizes the monster's attacks. So if you type "punches", when a player battles that monster it would say "MonsterName punches you(...)" instead of the generic "attacks". This could also be good if weapons are ever introduced, setting a Sword to "slice" and "slices" so Players would "slice" each other in fights, etc.

8.) If we're going to have different areas, like caves and forest, we should be able to have the monster control panel let us select where they're encountered. Like ticking and unticking boxes, or just typing in what land type they're found on. (Leave blank for monster to be found anywhere.)

Anyway, there's a lot of stuff of varying complexity that would be amazing here. I tried to keep it to what I THINk would be the least complicated stuff. I don't know.

Also, changing "gold" to any other term on the control panel causes a database error on loading the main User interface for the Battle area.

This is actually not designed to merely change the name of what the currency is referenced to. This is actually pointing the mod to which column in the database to use for storing the money value. The help tip is wrong.

Is there a reason, if you know off the top of your head, that it's not simply a stylistic change only the user sees?

  The setting regarding a cash system changes which database column from the members table will be used for monetary units within the game. This was originally implemented as such so that Battle can use the same cash system as other mods that use a column in the members table in this fashion (ie. SMF Shop Mod). With the next version I will add another option to allow a custom display name for monetary units as well as the current cash system option. Both will have help text that clearly describes exactly what each setting entails.  Also I will change it so when a cash system is chosen that does not exist, it will reset it to the default of gold.

You have to go into permissions to enable them to play.

Thx, I thought it was something like that, but I just didn't see the options when I was looking late last night.

Interestingly, I can turn battle on/off for regular members and global moderators, but there doesn't seem to be an option for moderators.

hey,

sorry to disturb you, but I have a problem with the mod and I'm not 100% sure how to fix it..

I am currently using a Halloween theme and whilst on this theme all the images for the battle mod are not available, is there something I need to do to make them visible?  Is it a simple fix like just putting the image folders in the current theme mod?

My forum is www.wrathofwisdom.com/forum (Guild forum for RIFT)

If you could help, I would be very very grateful.

Kind regards

Beowulf

EDIT: I copied all the image files across to each different theme and so far it seems to have worked.  How do I make the campaigns I have placed within the campaign folder on the server (your addon battle zip file) visible within the game?
Title: Re: Battle
Post by: City Builder on October 26, 2013, 10:15:47 PM
It seems I have some creatures who stats are incorrect,

For example:
Name:   sheep
? Attack Strength:   150
? Defense:   150
? Health:   175
? Max Health:   175
? Preliminary Attack Range (MIN / MAX) 1/10
? Evolution Setting (1 - 1000, 0 to disable):   1

However, when ever I go to battle the sheep it usually tells me that the sheep has something like 671 health points left.

Perhaps I'm just not setting the settings as listed above correctly?

Also, I think the custom encounters should be able to have a negative effect, I have tried putting in something like -10 but when I say that it removes the negative and ends up applying a positive effect if the user got that particular outcome

Also, it would be great if the items in the store were either re-orderable or were sorted in some sort of way like alphabetic order

Also, how does the attack system work? If one of my monsters has an attack stat of 85 why does it only do something around 1-5 total damage?

I'd really like to add to the numbers in this browser game so that each encounter feels more epic, you know, kind of like some games that just add zeros to the end of stats to make them feel more epic, but I'm not sure of the actual formula of how to do this and make everything balance out properly. Any help on that?

It would also be great if we had the ability to add a percentage that the player will gain some kind of a stat or gold from defeating a creature. As it is now they might go through a 20 turn battle and get absolutely nothing in return, it just makes our players feel discouraged at even playing.

A tip: for those that want to add gold into the game so that players get it from playing and not just from a timebase...

Add custom encounters and make it so that they do something like stumble over a log and have to dig into a hole that they see in the reward for it is either something like 10 gold or nothing.

Make multiples with the same text so that they don't realize that they are always going to get 10 gold if they get out number one or zero gold if they get outcome number two, make enough of these and they should proliferate the map enough that the player can get gold from these, I much prefer this way then automatically giving players gold doing nothing but coming back to the site an hour later

So I have multiple outcomes with the same description text that that give on outcome number one anywhere between one and 100 gold for just exploring a log that they stumbled over, obviously I did not want to add 100 of the same items so it goes in multiples of 10, so the user might find 10 gold or 20 gold or 30 gold etc.

Also I'm not sure how stat points actually work with regards to experience, I have 36 of 25 experience but no stat points, I would expect that when I hit 25 experience I would get one stat point but that doesn't seem to be the case, any clues?

Just a question, I installed this mod when it was outdated.
With this new version "Battle [V1.13]" I will have just to replace the files, or there are also new settings added to the db?

Diego Andrés,

Uninstall any older version of the Battle mod you have on your forum first and then delete it from your packages menu.
After which you can upload and install the newest version.

I will be releasing another version within the next week which includes many changes and fixes.  It is currently in testing although public beta packages are also available from my site if you can not wait (site members only).

Wondering if I'm not going to lose current custom settings or monsters?

I'll give a look to the beta, maybe I can help you to test it.

Also, this annoying message "Refreshing is not allowed, go back to the main battle page" has been solved?

I made some improves to this mod, when I get time I'll share it, also I completed the linktree, that wasn't showing the current section like the shop.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled version 1.14 of Battle numerous times. My forums are version 2.0.6.

Nothing in the Battle package has been changed by me, insofar as I know it's all vanilla.

No, no editing of any of the files.
The only thing I wonder about is that I chose to install Battle to the theme that I use for my forums which is the Minecraft theme available on this site.

Oh and yes, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it again but still the same error message about line 564

  I used what's called an anonymous function which is only native to PHP version 5.3+ and this may very well be causing the syntax issue you two are reporting. I will replace v1.14 with an emended version and post here when that task is completed. Thank you for the reports and your patience.

I installed battle but I got a DB error, can't get there again now.
The problem is that seems to be perfectly installed but in the package list seems to be uninstalled  :o

Solved, for some reason the package name didn't update in the smf_log_packages table.
So I changed it and then I could install it again because also the mod didn't install :o

Don't know what happened, but I deleted the old Battle tables and installed the new Battle and now is working nice.
So now I'll just upload the old monsters table, because I'm lazy and I don't want to create the monsters again.

Thanks

PD: I don't like that you haven't added the linktree for each subaction.

Azhtek,

  I just tested that action & looked at the file concerned whereas I can not duplicate your issue. As long as you have the new Sources files (Subs-Battle.php specifically in this case) it should be working fine. Keep in mind that you can not use the browser back button nor can you attempt to refresh the page else it will display that message due to the custom session. This is done to thwart cheating in the game whereas you must use the buttons/links on the battle page for it to function.

I just installed Battle last night. I'm using Firefox 26.0. All day today play was fine. For some reason now when I click on "Explore" I get a blank white screen. No Map, No Forum just a white screen.... :P HEEEELLLP LOL

What info can I give you to help you?

I Logged on as a test user and the map shows up fine for them. It just seems to be only my Admin log-in that is having this issue.

Ok I think I found where the issue is. I had set the Global mod permissions to all earlier. Not sure if I had tried to use "Explore" since I made those changes. But, I removed all game permissions for the Global Mod and now the map is showing again.

unfortunately I'm unable to use the forum! White screen with reported error. Therefore unable to unistall or do anything. Hope you can help as my back up is corrupt.

Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Chen Zhen on January 07, 2014, 01:11:32 PM

johnnygee,

  Your PHP version is new enough not to cause a syntax also a memory issue would not throw that error. My first thought is that some of the source files may be corrupted. Are you savvy enough to decompress the package on your pc/mac and upload the source files directly to your Sources folder via FTP platform to replace any that are possibly corrupt?
Title: Re: Battle
Post by: johnnygee on January 07, 2014, 01:40:37 PM

Title: Re: Battle

johnnygee,

  I am only referring to the Source files of the Battle package specifically and not your other SMF files.  I am saying to download the Battle mod, decompress the archive and use your FTP platform to replace only the battle source files. It is easy, the files are in a folder named Sources within the Battle package and those files get put into your forum Sources folder.   Why would you think I was referring to any other files in that folder? You do not have to mess with any other files other than those associated with the Battle mod for this specific process.

  Atm I can not think of why it is throwing a syntax error like that unless a command I used in the mod is disabled in your php.ini (just a guess... ie. @ini_set('memory_limit','64M') ??). Norvidge,

  Imo you do not have to uninstall/install the mod after making changes to a file. Decompress a copy of the mod on your pc/mac and then upload & overwrite that file with the original using FTP when you mess it up.

  It sounds to me that you may not be PHP and HTML savvy, causing errors in the code with improper syntax.  That aspect actually has nothing to do with Battle itself (learning the basics of PHP and HTML) whereas you are going to have to learn those things on your own through trial & error and your own research. Perhaps try php.net, w3schools & stackoverflow by way of Google which are great resources.

I'm not a PHP expert but I know how to modify them without errors  :D I have tried and I think the problem is not mine, because although re-upload the file battle.template.php without having any modifications, this is what happens. (attached image)
At first I thought the files were encrypted but if you tell me that I would know what to do to modify them easily.

Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Chen Zhen on January 10, 2014, 07:45:29 AM

Norvidge,

  The files are not encrypted, they were created/edited using a proper PHP development editor/tool that inserts the proper type of line breaks. Try using Komodo or another editor designed specifically to develop the language of PHP (and set it as such).

  The issue you are having is due to file size. The solution for you is to open the default file & the file on your server at the same time in your editor. Copy & paste the code from the default file (edit it if you wish at this point) onto the file located on your server via FTP and save the file.

Title: Re: Battle

Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Chen Zhen on January 11, 2014, 10:35:40 PM

Norvidge,

  Do not edit the code directly on the server and attempt to save it. Have the file open both on your pc/mac & the server at the same time. Edit the code within the file on your pc/mac (not the server) & when finished editing it, copy/paste the code directly from the pc/mac file to the server file in its entirety & save it on your server (ctrl-a or cmd-a to highlight all code).

  Also note that it may be easier for you to have a local installation of SMF, your theme & this mod to test things prior to applying it on your site (ie. xampp).

Norvidge,

  Most recent mods add to that array via a hook which is what this mod uses. Look in the BattleHooks.php file where the code you are looking for is in the function called battle_menu_buttons.  Change the word search to where you want it to appear (it will appear prior to whatever key you have it look for from that array).

Hi man, this is the ONLY issue I have with your adjustments to the mod, but before I get to that, this version I like quite well and want to specifically point out the inner menu "Upgrade" option screen improvements, great job dude :) ...

You need to save your files so that the ever handy dandy Notepad.exe can open it with page/line breaks intact, never have any problems with SMF's core files, why should I have to go through and sort out where they go and save it so that I can make easy changes later, seriously...
Title: Re: Battle

No, seriously, use a proper editor. I have no trouble opening the files here, because I'm using Notepad++ but any decent editor that understands there are other line endings will work.

SMF's files all use Unixoid line endings - like this mod does - but I suspect your FTP client 'fixes' them for you. Save yourself the hassle and use a proper tool for the job.

I just want to say Thank You to all the people here that took the time to re-polish this excellent little gem of a game....

I gave up on this Game-mod at version RC7-2 where too many bugs just made it impossible to play.

I just stumble across this thread again today and I was very happy to see what Underdog has done so far. So I downloaded 1.14 and imagine my surprise when upon starting the game I found again all the extra Monster and Quest that I did created back then, in version RC7-2. Obviously the DB still had the old stuff in it....

Never the less... Thank you Underdog (and everybody else who did help) for what you have done. My users will be more than happy to see this back on-line.

You just made my day... ;)

Also, can I find a list somewhere of all the possible effects for items or random events?

Mizari-,

  There is a question mark to the left of each setting which displays help text. The help text best explains what the setting will do within the game.

Quote
The amount of times the enemy needs to be killed by users before a random stat is upgraded by 1 for the Monster.
(0 to disable, 1 to 1000 for the setting)

NekoJonez,

  You are correct & thank you for the report. I will post a beta package to fix this issue for the time being. This will be implemented in the next release version.

And my suggestion is: maybe this requires a lot of programming but... on my forum there are a few inactive members. I would love it if you could stop users from simply attacking the inactive members. Like, excluding members from the game.

You need to be more specific, but Battle is already integrated into pm...

NekoJonez,

  You should uninstall & delete your current version. After this you just install the beta version which will not cause any data loss from previous versions of Battle.

  Battle has permissions for game play where you can restrict it to a specific group & only add people that wish to play to that group. I understand what you are suggesting & I can implement something for the next version where one can have permission to play Battle but has to initialize a user setting that acknowledges they wish to initially start participating.  This way those that do not want to participate will not be included in the user Battle nor will it wait for those users for certain game play settings.

Jeffrey King,

  There is user PM configuration on the Battle page under the link of Settings.

I give up... I have no idea of how to get the Campaign option to work. (is it supposed to work already?) When I click on "Add New Campaign" the following message appear:

"The campaign must be created prior to editing!"

There is no Go button anywhere and please can someone tell me if I'm reading this right?:

" For campaigns it is recommended to create new usergroup(s), add members to them that wish to participate in those campaigns and set the permissions for those membergroup(s) to be able to participate in each campaign. The permissions will appear in your permission list as campaigns are created."

Create new usergroup (no problems), add member to them (no problems), set permission (no option available for Campaign in permissions because cannot create campaigns in game)

What am I doing wrong?

NekoJonez,

  Thank you for the report. I neglected to define that array in case you have not created any explore actions.

File: /Sources/Subs-Battle.php

Find:

foreach ($context['battle_explore'] as $row)

replace with:

$context['battle_explore'] = !empty($context['battle_explore']) ? $context['battle_explore'] : array();
foreach ($context['battle_explore'] as $row)

Burt,

    I have fixed this issue in the Battle v1.15-Beta2 release.
You can find beta releases for Battle at this link: http://webdevelop.comli.com/index.php?board=20.0
A newer release of Battle will not be posted on the SMF modification repository until other substantial development has been applied to it.

NekoJonez,

  Battle v1.15-Beta2 also includes the fix for what you reported.

Hi Underdog

I did install the 1.15 beta 2 but the only difference I can see is that below the three campaign at the top (Alpha, beta, delta) then there is a new one with no picture called Campaign_4 that I cannot access, prune or delete. Other than that I can now add a new campaign but that it is as far as I can go. There are no new permission for campaign in the permission, and I got no Go button in the menu. Finally I still have no idea of what the campaign is or does  :D. Do we have a manual anywhere that explain this new feature...
Probably I'm doing something wrong  :)

No good...

Now I'm not able to access any longer the game Stats because of a database error. "smf_battle_campaign_4' doesn't exist" and "File: /Sources/Subs-Battle.php Line: 716"
The game still work but in the admin I get a similar message: "File: /Sources/BattleQuests.php Line: 975"

;D

Ah the joy of modding....

Hello again Underdog. Would it be possible to add in the Admin Battle Config, a text box where you can type the name of your "Members Uploaded Avatars folder", so that the Main.php file does look in both folders for the members avatars? At the moment, when you select Battle in the game and it give you the Battle Member list, most of my member have no avatar icon in there because they all use custom avatar and they are not in the avatar folder (for obvious reason).

if it possible.... :D

Thank You

PS. I clear the cache and everything is good now, all the menus are working again, but I still cannot start a campaign, (well I don't know how or what the settings are suppose to be)
Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Burt on February 03, 2014, 08:25:17 AM
Please Underdog, disregard everything about the campaign. I finally got it.  :D
So you got to make a quest first, then assigned to a campaign and finally, you will get the permission available in the general permission. I already did have plenty of quests, but none of them were assigned to a campaign as when I had the game originally, campaign did not exist. It never occur to me to go to edit a quest, to find out that, there is where you turn on the campaign option. I also though that a campaign, would have been a battle between to groups of members, not a list of quests.

Thank you...
Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Chen Zhen on February 03, 2014, 04:41:54 PM

Burt,

  With v1.14 (& the current 1.15-Beta) the campaigns are quests in order of level. There are a few options for changing the type of quest play. The next stable release version (& one of the upcoming v1.15 Beta's) will include some monster battles within a quest if opted.

  As it is the whole current game in play is individual members pitted against each other (points & battling) from those within membergroups that have permission to play. The campaigns do have membergroup permission settings although it does not have a method of displaying the score based on an overall membergroup tally. I will add this score display (via toggle) into the next v1.15 Beta version so that membergroups pitted against each other can view that info.

Regards.

When you say store bought, are you speaking of the internal store in Battle?, or are you referring to the Store module similar to SMF Shop module like I have?, I'm working on several SMF Shop items to manipulate Battle in various ways...

Sure, as you (should) know, the Battle module is compatible with the various Shop/Store modules that utilize the "credits" system of making purchases of various predefined digital "shop" items... I already have one item defined that allows members to knock another member's "Level" down a notch in the Battle module, I'm spending some time today to work on several other items such as stealing someone's attack points, etc.

Many won't like cause I kill them. :P 1 thing is that I resurrect players (only handful play) with my other account (it doesn't lose kill-count) and then kill them with main account, doesn't change anything since even if main account resurrects players then kill-count gets reseted.

That's true...

Speaking of bugs, we still cannot play the Campaign in the game. We got to display them but when you click the Go button it then goes to the another page that says "no Quest", in which you can't click on the pages as they are not working, but if you hit refresh, then it show the Do Quest button. Then if you click on it, it takes you to "An error has occurred! No refreshing is allowed , please go back to Battle Main page. And that's as far has we have been able to go.

As you click back now it show that you have done the quest but it takes no energy away from you or gives you anything for that matter.

Another problem is that the mod doesn't give the members gold all the time. Most member get 1000 gold only if they log in to the game, while other members get 1000 gold every 10 hours. So now we have members with 20.000 plus gold and other member that can't play any more because they can't afford it.

Also the history log only keeps track of the last 5 actions in the game. Why bother to put a scrollbar next??

It has definitely improved over the previous version, but it is hard to keep the members amused, when they can't play properly...

I'm using 1.14 and with all these problems, I'm not so sure about using a beta versions.... :laugh:
Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Chen Zhen on February 09, 2014, 10:27:36 PM
Burt,

  You can not use the browser's back button nor refresh the page else you get an error message with most battle actions. This is purposely set up to thwart cheating and one must use the links provided in the game itself to perform any actions. The campaigns work fine while testing & imo there is perhaps something you are not setting up properly.

  A member will only get extra gold if they access battle. The gold bonus does not compound over time.
ie.
Let us say you have it set up to wait 10 hours prior to giving them 1000 gold. If a user plays the game & 10 hours transpires prior to them playing a second time it will give them 1000 gold. However, if they do not play battle until 30 hours pass, they will still only get 1000 gold (not 3000 gold) for that time period. It does not compound and just checks if the allotted time has passed since their last play prior to adding the gold amount. To get 3000 gold in 30 hours they will have to play the game at least once every 10 hours.

  I changed the amount of battle history shown to a low number (5) in attempt to speed up page loads (one among many adjustments that were made). I suppose it would be a good idea to allow a setting for this in the Battle config.

To manually change how many shouts and/or history is shown on the Battle template only requires some simple editing.

File: /Sources/Battle.php

find:

    battle_get_shouts(5);
    battle_get_hist(5);

... change the 5's to the integers that you prefer.

Regards.

Hi Underdog...

I think you miss read my post. What I'm trying to say is that I only hit the refresh to get to load the page with the button that says "Do Quest". If I don't, it only displays "No Quest" after you hit the word Go. Then after you click on the words "Do Quest" it goes to show you the first part of the quest and when you click continue, only then, it show you the screen like the error page "No refreshing is allowed", but no one is refreshing the page. I only clicked on continue to continue the quest.

I'm afraid that it is not how the mod is working on my site. When I first started the game as Admin two weeks ago, I only looged in maybe three times since, and I have a current balance of 17.165 gold (and rising). Most of my members only get the 1.000 gold, except for a couple that again have a balance of 5000 gold and they have played only once. (as per log) Even by disregarding the two 5000 gold users, I cannot explain to my members how come that the admin has so much gold without playing....At least if it was a way to give gold to the other members, I could share the wealth... :D
Also another couple of members did told me last week that they got 1000 extra gold, as, they got the first set of 1000 when they did click on the shop but then they got given another 1000 gold when they did click from the shop to the explore screen.
(BTW while I was typing this post, my admin gold just went to 19.165, it was 17.165 only ten minutes ago)

Thank for letting me know what to change to expand a bit the history. I think at least 15 events should do i, and thank you for taking the time to reply.

Burt,

  The go button is to commence the quest for the first time. It should not be displaying that error message though and atm I am not able to duplicate this issue.

  The gold for you members will stay at 1000 until they actually play the game by accessing Battle. The two people with 5000 are most likely the only ones playing the game aside from you (admin as you say). As for your large number of gold it might be that you or another admin/mod edited it within the Battle config. An admin (or membergroup with the permission set) can access Battle admin & adjust stats for any one user, all users or all whom have not yet participated.

I'm going to try for the last time a clean install. First thing I did I un-installed the Battle Game, then to be sure I run your Tool1 and after checking the DB there was still one table left. (see Picture). So I drop the table manually and I'll install the 1.15 beta two that I got from your Site. (Is that right that it recognise it still as 1.14??).

Hello Underdog...

I just finish install a fresh version of Battle (the 1.15 beta 2) and so far this is what I'm up against.

Little Nibble: Most of my members did upload their own avatar, that for obvious reason are NOT store in the same folder as all the other avatar, otherwise they would became available to all other member. So in Battle the avatar doesn't load. not a big deal...

In the Setting I would like to change the value from gold to credits (like the SMF Shop does use), but I can't. If I do then the game stop, because it cannot load, as it  doesn't recognise the string _credits, in the DB.

Another question is:

I did put these setting in the game (as per picture 1).

Picture 2 is what I get when I log into the game as an Admin.

Picture 3 is what a user get when He/she load into the game.

All I would like is for everybody in the game to start with 2000 (gold,credits whatever you want to call them). How can I do this?

I also tried to use the tickbox "Set ALL members to these stats" in the Battle Member page, but when I went to check the other members nothing has changed, they still have 1100 gold.

Where does this 1100 number come from?

I'll stop here now, relax and breathe slowly....

You know, I just would like to play this game..... :D

Thank You

CoalsPlay,

  The template files for this modification are rather large and you will have issues editing them via FTP (pending smaller multiple template files). I suggest that you first do your editing locally (on PC/MAC) and then upload/replace the entire file.  To fix your current issue just upload/replace that template file with the original default template.

I already solved the error. Just had to edit directly from the FTP.

Now for example, to display in the display.template as an option, I should do?.

I would put it this way: http://prntscr.com/2zqnf2

But when I put the code: http://prntscr.com/2zqnqu
I looks like this: http://prntscr.com/2zqo5h

And it's not like I have to, to be displayed properly as in the first picture ...

If you could guide me I would be very grateful!

Thank you!

CoalsPlay,

  I will suggest that you please use bbc code tags to display the code(s) and bbc img tags to display the image(s) with an explanation of exactly what you wish to accomplish.

CoalsPlay,

  Prior to using the function you are attempting to call, you must have it load the file the function is located in.

ie.

require_once($sourcedir . '/Profile.php');
loadCustomFields($memID);

Also global $sourcedir; needs to be in the global calls at the beginning of that function you are editing (if it is not already there).

CoalsPlay,

Ensure Enable Battle Against Members  is enabled within Admin->Battle->Config.
Failing that clear your SMF error log and attempt to use the custom profiles again. After that look at the error log and use quote tags to show me what it says.

Game got updated to 1.14 a while ago and everything has gone smoothly (except too restricting reqs to be able to kill other members) except now I lost 50 member kills (~12 hrs ago I had 51 and now 1) and by the looks of game stats only some got affected.

Also I find it weird that player whois over 10 levels behind me has nearly same amount of monsters kills and only 1000 battlepoints behind me.

  If the setting is enabled to restrict players from battling members of a lower level then it will behave this way. The lower level player can attack the higher level player but it will be risky since they will most likely perish soon after. You just need to set the level range accordingly. If you adjust the setting to ie. 10 levels then those people who opt to battle higher ranked members will most likely be dead with 1 battle.

Quote

This depends on the setting for "Ending Level For Battle Points Game (0 to disable)". If it is set to 1000 then the current game will end when someone reaches 1000 points. When a game ends, the winners battle stats will be transferred to the  leaderboard. You can set it to auto reset after XX hours (after the preset max level is reached) or if that setting is at 0 it will wait for an admin to reset the game. When a game is completed (prior to being reset) it will automatically display the Battle stats template which shows the top 10 players + additional stats of the actual winner (bottom right).

so when i reach lvl 1000 (after ~200 days) we all need to start from scratch. that has goods and bads.
Title: Re: Battle
Post by: Chen Zhen on May 10, 2014, 04:26:11 PM

battle_gamer,

  You can set the ending level to 0 which disables that feature. Although personally I do not see the point in playing a game that never ends. Most games have a way in determining an end to them and a winner (ie. higher score,  lower score (<- golf), last person standing, etc.).

  Once the game is reset your members can start again. Since the winner's high score is recorded, others can then strive to beat that score when playing one of the next games.

It happens to me when I try to view the forum.

player.samp,

  It sounds as though you are editing the mod's files with an improper editor that is not processing the line endings properly.
Did you attempt to edit the file(s) and then save them? Using an improper editor (and saving the file) will cause syntax errors such as what you have reported.

Download the mod yet again and replace the file with the original.
If you want to edit it for use on your site then use an editor such as Notepad ++ (not Notepad!!).

Here is a link to the editor I spoke of: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.6.7.html

now other player lost his member kills after playing ~1 day so its not just me and that is only affected stat (also total amount of members killed has dropped (naturally)).

total loss of member kills lost is 200+

btw what is chance to get +25 (+1000 actually) attack vs +400 (actually 500 - 200) money from old man? lately I've gotten more 1st than latter (once I spent 6300 and 3000 of that was attacks and 3300 was money).
Title: Re: Battle

battle_gamer,

  You stated before that you are not hosting the game and are just playing it on a forum. I can not duplicate the issues you speak of nor have they been reported to me from people that host the mod and use it on a regular basis. The "old man" you speak of is most likely part of the custom explore of the mod where the admin of the forum you are playing the game on has full control for its settings.
  All the issues and questions you are posing here are most likely the result of the Admin whom hosts the game on their forum and Imo you should be addressing your issues with the administrator of that forum and on that forum.

Regards.

host says that he hasn't done anything when I reported that I had lost kills.

host edited old game by increasing that "lottery" where has 2 outcomes (2500 (-750) money or 250 (200 reads on that box on right) money).

I'll ask from host what he has added into game.

seems just weird that only some players are affected (2 players) and ~50 players have played game (and maybe half of those have passed lvl 5).
Title: Re: Battle

battle_gamer,

  An admin of the forum hosting this mod has the ability to edit individual user stats from within the BAttle admin. They also have the option within membergroup permission profiles to give a membergroup permission to make those edits (ie. Battle Moderator). It is possible that someone has altered those stats in error or that the admin of said forum has given a membergroup permission to do so in error. Ask the admin to edit your user stats from the Battle admin->Members  and to check membergroup permissions  (Allowed to administrate Battle) so that membergroups can not edit those settings (unless the admin opts it on purpose).

Regards.

there is only 1 person with perms to moderate site (since its his own site).

he replied that he hadn't added any mods into game so it was normal game.

doesn't matter anymore since during last update he deleted battle game so game over, no winner (not that any1 could have catched me).

I did not previously notice that you posted an odd directory path.
Why is Battle.php in a directory named Battle?
It should be in the SMF Sources directory.

Are you using the latest version?
Have you been altering the modification?

So I had read that the latest version of Battle installed ok into SMF 2.1 RC1. Well, that wasn't my experience... doing the last install step didn't seem to actually work (gave me a white screen), and the package remained in an "uninstalled" state. So I removed it.

But ever since then, my error log is being flooded with failed calls to Battle hooks. Stuff like:

The callable battle_admin_areas could not be called.

Followed by:

Hook call: function "battle_admin_areas" in file /xxxx/xxxx/xxxx could not be called.

Repeat for a number of other calls such as battle_actions, battle_user_settings, battle_files.... etc etc etc. Lots of them.

I'm afraid I don't understand the SMF hooks mechanism in order to know how to clean this up manually. :( Help? If I have to dive into phpmyadmin, that's fine.

Thanks. I think this could be my solution, although I get a 403 error anytime I try to remove one of the missing Battle hooks.

I don't think the issue is specific to Battle at this point, so I'll post this question elsewhere.

Thanks for the report.

Your MySQL or MariaDB likely has some sort of strict mode enabled which won't allow/tolerate default values for text columns. It shouldn't be necessary for those to have default values so I just changed the installer.

Try the updated version & let me know if it works for you.

I updated the package to version 1.17.8 which should fix what you reported.
Campaign/quest permissions are no longer restricted to post based membergroups.
You can now opt regular or post based membergroups from the Battle Admin->Config page.
This enables permission settings for your campaigns in the types of membergroups that are opted.

You can use the link in your Battle Admin page to download the updated package.

When upgrading you have to uninstall any old version & delete it from your packages prior to installing a new version.

Just wanted to say, such a awesome mod here... Running on 2.0.19, all good.. Modified map, made it zombie and survival related as part of the forum, just really well done here...

The only weird thing is, and I'm sure someone figured it out; is on responsive theme. Have like 20+ mods attached and this is the only one that won't revert as responsive on a cell...

Any pointers by folks using it?

It's probably ok on a 10.5" tablet in landscape view, however if you're referring to a 5" or 6" smartphone then Diego's idea is the simplest but requires scrolling to navigate the Battle page.

Title: Re: Battle

In your screenshot, each of the tile images is 72x70 pixels - that means on a typical phone, you can expect to get between 4 and 6 wide based on the typical sizes of phones.

So responsive by definition means one of two things: you make the tiles tiny or you make it so you have to scroll around (as Diego suggested), but on a 15-wide layout as per your screenshot, that's probably going to suck to actually use. Even if you turn the phone landscape it's still going to suck because you're only going to get that same 4-6 high rather than wide.

That's the point of asking my question: if you were talking about this working on a phone how do you imagine it could work where you could actually play it and it be good? What would make sense for you?

Hello All...

So I have a profile mod, can someone show me what code needs to be placed to display like the 2.0.19 version?

Like it use to say, battle stats, attack, etc.. ?? It posted it in Profile info area, believe was near "Thanked"

Not loading there automatically...

Thank you,

Bugginin

It's because the template is different when using the link from the top drop-down for your own profile.
If you look at the URL for your own profile from that link you'll see "area=forumprofile" which is not there when you click on user name links.

Click on your user name link from a post or the "users online" list and you'll see what I mean.

TY, much appreciated..

BTW - one of the top 5 mods out there for sure, amazing job...

My only wish, and keep looking for an update is for the responsive part of it...

Other than that, just beautiful work here... TY, TY...
