If it's the latter, there are plenty of chatboxes available (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=search;basic_search=chat) on the mod site.
If it's the former, then no.
There is the SMF IRC channel, #simplemachines on irc.villageirc.net, as you'll see on the news area on the forum homepage here, however it is not for support.
