Google: Adsense for Search and Custom Search Integration - JohnCcCcCc
This mod allows the Google "Adsense for Search" and "Custom Search" features to be added easily with no coding at all on your part.
This mod will ad the Google search on the top of every page (if you choose that option), if you have a portal mod installed you can use a portal block to put the search box where ever you want.
First off, Install this mod, after installing this mod, there will be no changes that are visible to you on your forum yet.
This mod makes everything simple for you, once you set up your ad at Google's site, choose the option which says "view search results in my own site" or "Host results on my website using an iframe".
You will then have 2 sets of code to use.
Forget the second code, you will only need the 1st code, "Search box code". Click the code in the form and it will automatically be all selected, copy the code to you clipboard. (CTRL+C or right click, copy).
Now you have that done, Go to your admin setting in modifications page (see image below)

Paste that code into the form like on the image, scroll to the bottom of the modifications page, click save.

You will immediately notice that you now have a search box in the upper body area of the forum, it will be on the left side by default, adding center tags
will make it center, I have added center tags in the image to show how. ;)
Search results code, wondering what to do with it, nothing, don't worry about it, your integration is already complete, search for something and see

The background color is initially white, does not look to good, changing the background color is done in the Google control panel. Note you can also change the link color the border color and many other things to match your theme too.
This mod had been tested on SMF 2 RC2 and works fine.

I don't use ads, but this sounds like a pretty good idea.
Yea, it is, using portals and ad management mods will only work for the "search bar" it will not not work for results code, that code needs to be hard coded into index.template.php.
Fortunately, the search results code is the same all the time, with the exception of the width setting for the results, which I have added instructions for on this topic and in the php file itself :).
Oh this is not such for ads, it can actually help your members search your site :)

when you used <center> did you make sure to close </center> after, thats the only reason why it would center the whole forum.
Instead of using those center tags, you should use
<div style="text-align: center;">
Your Search box Code here
</div>
This way if you change to right, left or justify, you only need to type it once :)
I installed via the package installer! Should I have installed it manually then?
no install it normally, just when centering things in the Searchbox form, make sure to close the tag when done

Hello, I can not use the ad mang mod on my site. I Can not find a way to manually add my ad sense to my forum so I downloaded and installed your mod. I read that adsense would not work only adsearch. But i put the code in anyway just to see what would happen, adsense is receiving the adsense page impressions. Does this mean the adsens ads will work this way or is only going to allow it to log the impressions?
As long as you can see the ad being displayed on the page your getting the impressions, there are no permissions on this mod, thus everyone will see your ad.
That is ok for every one to see. I was just not sure if it will allow the register of the click properly. But I thought it would if it is registering the impressions. This will be a life saver if this works! There are no problems with google spiders crawling the pages with this mod? Useing portals, no bot can crawl my forum. Ad manager will not install and it would be too much trouble to fix the issues.
Well, this is not primarily used for displaying ads, although it can be used for that, it will be very similar to using a portal or ad management to display an ad.
Adsense does not have any problems when ads are displayed on a portal or ad management.

The search box for Google is used to make money with the ads that are displayed with search results, this mod will make the whole Google "Adsense for search" integration easy for you

You don't have to use the search box part, you can put the search box anywhere you like using a portal or ad management mod. I have made the mod so you can have the option to display the google search box or not, of course if you choose not to use the options to add the Google Search box, it will not be there, Its been designed like this so you can use a portal to display your search box code anywhere you like since the results code is already in index.template.php it will always show the results wherever you decide to put your search box.
Maybe I will make a mod to remove the smf search box ::)
I found the standard "Google Custom Search" text too small and so I changed the wording and the text size.
For members who don't know coding, open the Configurations > Miscellaneous > Modifications where you placed your original code ( or other location where you put the code) and then...
To change the text size find <div class="cse-branding-text"> and add <font size=3> so that code now reads <div class="cse-branding-text"><font size=3> Note: you can use another number beside 3 for font size, but 3 is pretty large for most people.
To change the text, just replace whatever text there is following <font size=3> with any message you wish.

Same problem, but only in IE8, I installed it from the pack and made no change to the code, did not add any thing to it. Firefox is ok, it is only with IE8. Every thing is now centered.

Once again, as stated in above post, you probably did not close the center tag.

Did not add center tag as "I" said before. Even with nothing in the code box, only install mod IE8 centers. Tried enter the code, added center tag and close, does not make any difference.

I just re added IE to my system, and yes, everything does center when using IE, damn IE...
Firefox is fine, I will find out and once again, add a handicap for that stupid browser.
I assumed that it was the missing close tag since another member had forgot it too, and IE I don't use for testing lol.

How would I go about creating a Simple Portal 2.3.1 block on SMF 2.0 RC1.2 for the Google Adsense search integration mod? I have the Google Adsense Search and Custom Search Integration v1.2 package installed in the default theme as well as my custom theme. I am awaiting to hear back from Google for opening my account so I do not have the code to insert into the Admin -> Configuration -> Modifications -> General page yet.

Just Create a HTML block with your "Search Box" code in it.
The search results will be displayed as usual :)
It is really that easy? I thought I was going to have to write my own php functions for the block that would integrate with your mod, so yesterday I was paging through all the file modifications and included source files to see how I could integrate it into a block. A lot of work not necessary on my behalf, so thanks for making the mod installation and integration easy. I guess I have always done things the hard way, as I'm a stubborn learner.
What makes this mod really great is that end users do not have to code or tag anything for full Google Adsense and search integration.

Yes its really that easy,
The whole Idea is to enable the search results code (hard code required).
Then I actually encourage to not use the Searchbox admin area, but to use a portal block (HTML) to choose where ever you want to search box to be.
Tested mod on SMF RC2, working fine! :)
I put the code in, and no search box? I am new at Adsense, but I believe I have everything correct. Any ideas?
What is the code you inserted into the form?
Maybe you used the search results code in the search box area, try the other code. (Search Box) the codes do look similar but just check that 1st.
The mod does work in RC2 but, if you use the curve theme, it breaks the themes graphic background and looks terrible. Have you found a way to change that?

This searches Google, thus people who click sponsored links within the Google search results (when searched within your site) will get the revenue

This does not actually replace anything, it will add the custom code required to display the search results in your own forum, and also add a search box, note that you can use your search box code anywhere on the forum using a portal block also.
I'm Currently updating this for RC3 at the moment, it should work, but will probably require a manual edit or 2.

If you do the manual edits I see no reason why it would not work, its your choice, you can do the manual edits or you can wait, either way it should be the same result.

I actually tested this mod on RC3 already, it works perfectly. Not even any manual edits required.

here it is....plz i want it to replace the default search
I tried downloading the package for 2-rc3 from the packages/download packages/ simple machines package server and Google for Search does not show up in Feature Enhancements.
So, I downloaded the package off the mod site then uploaded it to my server in the packages folder.
Now it's listed when I select Browse Packages but, when I click Install Mod, I get this error: Unable to find package file!
Any suggestions, sure would like to use this mod.

Realized Feature Enhancement was the wrong place. Deleted File, Downloaded in SMF from New Feature, Says file appears to be empty.
How set this for guests only???
I have not implemented that feature yet, I can give you the code you would add to make it only for guests if you like;

This will make the search bar only visible to guests.
The other code will always be their, but its not visually changing anything, its just for the results when its used to search.

The search results page is not loading, its only working with the default theme any suggestions?
That means you didn't install it in your custom theme, you options are;
Uninstall the mod, then re=install it again, making sure to select the +Install in other themes option.
If that fails, because of the custom theme changing the code, simply copy the code for search results from the index.template.php file in default theme to the index.template.php in your custom theme, the codes are clearly labeled with a comment, simply add it to the main content area in index.template.php, below the comment that says " //The main content should go here."
Please I want a mod for my illustrative theme on this custom search thingy!!!
