your image is:  468px × 60px  .. needs to be less than:  height: 60px , 30px would work  .....

Is there anyway to change the template so I can change the size of the table?

We want to use DarkModern . . . but can't seem to make it work.

The default Simple Machines templates work fine, but we need SPECIFIC instructions on making DarkModern work.

The simplistic instructions provided have not been successful for us.

Just checking out my Mods with a few SMF Themes and came across this incredible Theme here!  2 Words come to mind:  Simply Perfect!

Thanks Crip! :)

Though, it really sucks when viewing some icons that come packaged with SMF in dark themes, for example, the help icon in the Admin.  If you ask me, the help icon needs some help itself! ;D

There is 1 minor glitch within this mod that I just now noticed.  Since the text color for all input tags are white, if you use the file input tag, Browse and select a file, the path doesn't get displayed for this.  Well actually the filepath is in there, but you can not see it since both the box that displays the filepath and the text for the filepath are white.  So, other than that minor display glitch in Firefox (haven't tested in any other browsers yet though), this Theme looks perfect.

Cheers :)

Not working fine for us.

It just displays the header, and then below that on the left it says . . .

Hello admin
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
December 30, 2009, 05:47:10 pm

And on the right is  a box and "SMF - Just Installed!"

That's all . . . Nothing else displays (except the background)

And on the lower left of the browser window is says, "Done but with errors on page."

What's really bad is we can't go back and change to the default theme at this point. So we have to go back through GoDaddy and uninstall SMP, and then reinstall it again.

Not working in IE or Firefox.

So I'm trying to add one of my logos to the theme but a problem i run into is the little header part is too small. Is there a way to lengthen it just a little bit? And if you don't know what part its the part where 'SMF" is written out.
Title: Re: DarkModern
Post by: Crip on March 29, 2010, 01:03:01 PM
No , doing that without the .psd file would just break the Theme ...

font: 78%/130% "Verdana", "Arial", "Helvetica", sans-serif;

This should fix it

Open the index.css and find

#quickReplyOptions form textarea
{
    height: 100px;
    margin: 0.25em 0 1em 0;
}

Replace with

#quickReplyOptions form textarea
{
    height: 100px;
    width: 635px;
    max-width: 100%;
    min-width: 100%;
    margin: 0.25em 0 1em 0;

Hi one of and maybe THE best themes ever. There are more themes by Crip in my theme basket than any other. I maintain several boards dark and light themed.

Anyway Love this theme but it is the only one of Crips themes I ever had a problem with that I couldn't sort out myself.

The problem is the verification image is not showing up. Not for the registration page nor any other instances such as newbie post verification etc

I'm stumped. Thankfully I am still able to use this theme because the 'listen to the letters' function works for registrations. Without that I couldn't use the theme until I figured out this issue and corrected it.

Because the registration form asks the registering user to 'enter the letters in the image' and there is no image. :o

So I will turn off the first post verification restrictions and warn newbies that they will have to 'Listen' to the letters to register.

O btw it's a fresh install that has the latest 2.0.1 patch/upgrade and NO mods installed (as of this typing).

This isn't on a 'live' site yet, so no big problem here. If I get to the bottom of this I will come back and post the solution.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner on this but it's not a live site and I had to go out of town for a couple of days.

There isn't a thing wrong with SMF or Crips theme. (I should have known).

The problem was with the id10t modifying the themes....me.

I put a full width banner image that I needed to be above the #wrapper <div> (so it would stretch the entire width and not be in the header or wrapper)

So I put the banner in this way:
echo '<img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/wm3bbbwoodsbnnr.png" style="margin: 0px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '"/>';

Just above the #wrapper. Right after the < body > tag:
</head>
<body>';

}
part.

Like so:
</head>
<body>';
echo '<img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/wm3bbbwoodsbnnr.png" style="margin: 0px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '"/>';
}

The banner was right where it needed to be (for me) and looked and worked great. Except it broke the image verification and Crips theme. I should have known anything I want and need would cause problems. >sigh<

Before I discovered the problem...I learned a lot of stuff researching image verifiacation.
---

So the moral of the story is when you want to put a banner image on the top of your forum above the #wrapper....don't do what I did above.

Now I get to play around and try to find a way to get that banner up there at the top...above the #wrapper, without breaking Crips theme again.

>goes back to the drawing board<
Title: Re: DarkModern
Post by: Skystone on September 30, 2011, 09:43:33 AM
Final update:

I ended up ditching the idea of adding an additional 'echo' statement, and just placing a regular htm <img> tag inside an already established echo statement.
this one:
echo !empty($settings['forum_width']) ? 'I plopped the <img> after that, still within the flow of the echo statement.

Everything works great now and doesn't break anything (as far as I can tell, so far)...the image verification looks great. The world is a happy place again and I can make this the default theme.

So Sorry for the false alarm everyone. I'm not that well versed in php as you can tell. I had no idea that adding an additional echo statement with a simple image could be so finicky. And certainly no idea it could interfere with the image verification.
Thanks again Crip, for yet another great theme ! (for dummies like me to break)

Hi there Crip and thank for creating this theme. It's very close to the theme we used on our SMF1.1.xx site (a modded Backbox). Things have gotten a bit different since SMF1 it seems, and I've become rather rusty at this. So I'd like to ask you 2 questions if you don't mind.

1. Where can I change the width of the Darkmodern theme? ~ I like my forums to be full screen usually.
2. Where do I change the header height? ~ Our guild mascotte "Cherry" need to be fitted in and I'd like to give her some room. :)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

This theme is awesome but the signature box in the edit profile is white and so is the text so you can not see what you type.  Can someone tell me where to change the back ground color on the signature box in edit profile.  My friend and I trying but not finding it.  I believe a mod caused this issue.

Thanks.

Yes I do believe so(I think we have some 20 mods or so installed) but how can I go about finding the where the css is for the sig box?  I think we can fix it if I just can figure out where the CSS is for this.  I am not the best at this stuff and now have someone helping me but we can't figure it out.

Thanks and this has to be one the best themes ever made for SMF~

I still can not figure out how to fix this issue.  Where is the CSS for the sig box in edit your profile?  If I can get to that I can probably fix it I think.

Thanks.

I really like your theme.
I need to add a button to the main menu. A button that would link to my website. Is there a simple way to do that ?
I found the mod "Menu Editor Lite" but when I look at how to install mods here : http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Manual_installation_of_mods
it makes me unsure.  It looks so complicated...

Any advice would be welcome...

Another question, Crip.  I don't think this has been addressed yet (sorry if it has)
It's a problem I only get with this theme, so I suppose it's related to the theme (not like my previous question)...
When I am within a topic, viewing the different posts, in the title bar of the topic, the topic title is displayed next to "Topic author" instead of being in the same column as the post itself.
To see better what I mean, here is an example (my default forum theme is Epic but I attributed DarkModern to this section, as I havn't decided which one to choose between those two yet)
--> http://www.ajwan.net/msf-forum/index.php?topic=4.0 (http://www.ajwan.net/msf-forum/index.php?topic=4.0)

I hope I expressed myself clearly...   Any idea how I should fix this ?
Thanks in advance,
Fran

Title: Re: DarkModern
Post by: fran- on October 30, 2012, 04:02:10 PM
The very top line is wrong. The word "Auteur" is well placed but the part "Sujet: Test topic (Lu 7 fois)"  shouldn't stick to it and should start after the vertical red line that I just drew. See what I mean ?

I hope I'm not getting shot for bumping old threads.

Hi Crip

I've chosen and heavily modified your theme to fit my needs and ran into a problem. Best see this topic for explanation: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=508612.0

You see I modified it quite a bit and if you could see the whole board, you'd find much much more modifications. I just want to prevent the search bar, due to it being integrated into the upper nav bar, from being hidden when collapsing the forum header. Could you please help me preventing that?

All i know is Removing Search altogether ? ..cuz , collapsing where and what i dunno..?

..or add it in with the menu , i tried this and it works but you will need to remove the old default  Search.

BACKUP 1st:
--------------index.template.php-------------

// Show the menu up top. Something like [home] [help] [profile] [logout]...
function template_menu()
{
   global $context, $settings, $options, $scripturl, $txt;

   echo '
      <div id="main_menu">
         <ul class="dropmenu" id="menu_nav">';

   foreach ($context['menu_buttons'] as $act => $button)
   {
      echo '
            <li id="button_', $act, '">
               <a class="', $button['active_button'] ? 'active ' : '', 'firstlevel" href="', $button['href'], '"', isset($button['target']) ? ' target="' . $button['target'] . '"' : '', '>
                  <span class="', isset($button['is_last']) ? 'last ' : '', 'firstlevel">', $button['title'], '</span>
               </a>';
      if (!empty($button['sub_buttons']))
      {
         echo '
               <ul>';

         foreach ($button['sub_buttons'] as $childbutton)
         {
            echo '
                  <li>
                     <a href="', $childbutton['href'], '"', isset($childbutton['target']) ? ' target="' . $childbutton['target'] . '"' : '', '>
                        <span', isset($childbutton['is_last']) ? ' class="last"' : '', '>', $childbutton['title'], !empty($childbutton['sub_buttons']) ? '...' : '', '</span>
                     </a>';
            // 3rd level menus :)
            if (!empty($childbutton['sub_buttons']))
            {
               echo '
                     <ul>';

               foreach ($childbutton['sub_buttons'] as $grandchildbutton)

Thank you for the awesome theme!

One problem, though: I've noticed at the bottom of the screen, the look of the theme breaks down.  I downloaded a new copy of the theme and same issue.....  Please see the screenshot attached....  How do I fix this?  Thanks!

EDIT: Also attached is the index.template.php for my copy, if it helps any....  Thanks again....

I absolutely love this theme, very nice work. I am going to change the link colors (link, visited, hover), out side of that everything else has been perfect. I had to update the useron.gif because it was showing as a broken image. The only issue I am having right now is trying to remove the SMF logo from the top right corner. I went into my index.template.pho file and removed the following line...

<img id="smflogo" src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/smflogo.png" alt="Simple Machines Forum" title="Simple Machines Forum" />

However, after removing this line there were errors on Line 188 and the script was messed up.

Any suggestions?

Great theme.

I'm not really a coder or anything but, I've managed to make some changes to the color scheme that I wanted. One thing I really cannot find is to make some changes to the bar where the Category name is. I am trying to change the color of the background and also move the Category name into the center.

I'm also trying to figure out how to remove an odd looking piece at the top of the site. I've posted a picture below of what I'm talking about.

If anyone can possibly help me with where to edit these things it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all very much.

Can anyone help me with editing the darkmodern theme? I want to remove the part underneath the the cripzone text that's is brighter in color than the top. Also want to change the background, behind the forum to show a multicam image instead of the light to dark fade in the default. If you can help me out please let me know here or in pm, I will be very thankful.

QuoteI want to remove the part underneath the the cripzone text that's is brighter in color than the top.

Figured that one out, just took some edit in paint and upload directly to the cpanel and not the zip.

but...

QuoteAlso want to change the background, behind the forum to show a multicam image instead of the light to dark fade in the default.

I still can't figure this one out. Is the background a color? Because I tried removing / replacing things like backdrop.png and it turned into a solid color. So if I'm needing to change something in css; color to an actual image, where would that be located?

Figured it out, Never messed around with code a day in my life but now I feel accomplished for figuring it out on my own.

Basically I just found this...
body
{
background: #252525 url(../images/theme/backdrop.png) repeat-x;
font: 78%/130% verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 15px 0px;

Replaced it with this...
body
{
background: url(../images/theme/marsoc.jpg) repeat;
font: 78%/130% verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 15px 0px;

then it was simple to overwrite the default .css in cpanel and upload the new image to the correct folder.

Thanks community me.

Oh man I literally did not know this information, I'm sorry for the loss. His theme... his work... is magnificent and this now saddens me to know that he is no longer alive to create or expand upon his wonderful collection.
