Moved to support.

Simpleportal includes a shoutbox and works on RC2. I'm not sure if any standalone shoutboxes for RC2 exist though

The Ajax chat integration mod has a chat and shoutbox.

ah. The mod author should look at updating their mod description :)

Or officially updating it; none of the AJAX shoutboxes are 'officially' updated; any updates have been done by other users in their respective threads.

Can the AJAX chat mod be used for ONLY the shoutbox and nothing else?

I think the chat part can be disabled - see if it's mentioned in the FAQ linked on the mod's page.

Can anyone think of an easier way to integrate a shoutox into my portal page? I know simpleportal comes with one, but it doesnt work with my theme, so that really isnt an option for me.

There isn't a simpler way, sorry, it's either modifying one of the existing ones... or modifying one of the existing ones.

What's up with the theme you're using? SP's shoutbox should work with most themes just fine.

Well, i dont really know if its the theme im using...im just making an assumption. (i know) Ive asked for help over on SP's site, but they dont seem to be as helpful as you guys over here. My members are screaming for a shoutbox and i dont have an answer for them at this point.

There's a lot fewer folks over there to be honest.

So what problem do you have with it, exactly? ("It doesn't work" doesn't help identifying the problem)

I can't actually see the screenshot (not having an SP account), but they would know SP better than us - and as they've said they're all volunteers just like we are here. Please be patient - I'm sure they will be able to provide an answer soon enough.

I think that's showing it's not configured in the right place, but yeah it's definitely not working correctly.

Anything in the error log?

The Ajax chat integration mod has a chat and shoutbox.

It doesn't parse for 2.0 RC2 though.

No, but if you read through the last couple of pages, there is a 2.0 RC2 compatible version mentioned, just not an "official" one.

This topic was moved from its original location. I dont understand why that was because i think a stand-alone SMF 2.0 RC2 Shoutbox is a valid Mod request. The fact that some people have "custom coded" other shoutboxes to work with RC2 shouldnt negate the fact that there currently ISNT one that works out of the box for it. Can this mod request please be moved back into the Mod Requests Section?

Does it meet the rules of the Mod Requests board?

I didnt spell it out EXACTLY as far as options, permissions and the like. But i was pretty specific in my original post. Since there currently isn't ANY standalone shoutbox compatible with RC2 i figured anything that was would be an improvement.

Well, H's first reply is quite correct. There is an RC2 compatible shoutbox.

But you need to be specific.

Yes i know there are ones included in Portals. But they arent very feature-rich. I was thinking of something like Hacks-park shoutbox or the Ultimate shoutbox but working with the new SMF version RC2. Do i really need to list EVERY feature i would like or can i just leave that up to the creative modders here?

If you have any hope of it being built, do specify what you want it to do.
