Title: IPB 2.0.3 to SMF 1.1.11 Question
Post by: Salkiri on January 22, 2010, 02:56:46 PM
I'm in the middle of trying to move over from IPB 2.0.3 to SMF 1.1.11 with as little downtime as possible.

The conversion seems to go OK except for some Board Permission errors.  I can fix this but it's time consuming and don't want the site to be down for that long.  Is it possible do the following?

1) Import IPB to SMF while leaving IPB up and running. (This I know is possible)
2) Customize my SMF install with my Mods, fix Board, Member and Member Group Permissions (Again I know yes)
3) After I'm done with my customizing, only import the new Members, Topics and Posts since the last import.  If that's not possible, can I clear out just those tables from the DB and only import those table back in?  If so, what changes do I need to make to the convert file or the SQL file.

Any help and suggestions are greatly welcomed.

Thank you so much for such a great forum software.

Sorry for the delay. I would recommend that you do first the conversion, and then the customization. The problem would any other scenario is, that mods could very well add data to tables (including to the members or messages table) and re-trying to convert even only the members or messages tables would still result in that mod data being wiped, which may not be compatible with mods.

That said, it might depend on the mods you want for the forum from the very beginning, if they really do modify the database at all. Many don't.
