Title: Schort Url's
Post by: rolan on May 19, 2005, 03:28:10 PM
hello,

I'd like to make from "index.php?board=1.0" just index.html
Is this possible?

I know there is a match in ACP "Search engine friendly URLs" and it works with Apache server only. in popup window I can see:
"This changes the format of URLs a little so search engines will like them better. They will look like index.php/topic,1.html.
This feature will not work on your server.
"

My phpinfo show me: "SERVER_SOFTWARE:  Apache/1.3.29 (Unix)"

Thanks,
rolan

You're probably using PHP in cgi mode.  The special URLs will not work in that case.

Please tell your host:

1. They're running an older, insecure version of PHP.  I strongly recommend upgrading to 4.3.11.
2. If they're the biggest host in Europe, they should definitely have accelerators installed for PHP - this includes one of Turck MMCache, eAccelerator, APC, ZPS, etc.  Yahoo! uses APC, we use eAccelerator here.
3. Running PHP in CGI mode is less efficient than running it as an Apache module.  Changing this would also fix your problems.
