Title: Tapatalk forum plugin, an iPhone/Android/Blackberry app to browse your forum!
Post by: Dragooon on March 12, 2010, 02:37:29 AM
Tapatalk website (http://tapatalk.com)

What is Tapatalk?
Tapatalk is an app on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Nokia which enables easy and native browsing of a forum with the plugin installed. Currently the stable release of the plugin is available for vBulletin and phpBB.

Only phpBB and vBulletin? Then what about SMF?
I wouldn't be posting this here now would I if there was nothing for SMF? I have made the plugin for SMF, it can obtained in the forum owners area(See below). Currently it is in beta stage and it works with both SMF 1.1 and SMF 2.0. It provides full integration with Tapatalk with no missing features!

OK, What can it do?
Tapatalk enables easy browsing of a forum by giving a easy and structured layout of forums. You can not only read the forums and topics, but also reply to them and create new ones. Apart from the standard topics/posts, it has support for PM viewing and replying. You can also view your subscribed topics, latest posts of the forum, who's online, others profiles. All that in a seamless integrated user interface with the phone.

How much does it cost?
Currently the Blackberry and Nokia versions are in beta, iPhone and Android have 2 versions. One is free but it has read-only features, the full version with write features costs 3$. The plugins for forums are free of cost.

Where can I get it?
iPhone Lite version (http://itunes.com/app/tapatalkro)
iPhone full version (http://itunes.com/app/tapatalk)
Android versions can be obtained at Android market.

I am a forum owner and I am interested, what shall I do?
Enabling Tapatalk is simple and easy! Just follow the steps at : http://tapatalk.com/en/plugin and it will guide you through.

How about some screenshots?
Sure,

You just have to unzip it and upload the files into a subdirectory on your message board, it is not a package.

That's not what the instruction said.

Quote
SMF - Installation

Download the zip package to your computer.
Login to your forum Admin area
Go to "Packages" and choose "Download Packages"
Scroll to the bottom "Upload a Package" section
Upload the package you just downloaded from this site
Choose "Install MOD"
Choose "Install Now"
Continue to next step
Useless, does not work. No wonder it had bad reviews from the App Store.

Tapatalk could you convert it to WebOS too you can use PDK (http://developer.palm.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1936) to do it :)

This would be awesome for my Website as what we support is Android/Blackberry/WebOS/PalmOS/WinMO

I also joined and commented at Tapatalk.  I will most likely be Adding this once the RC3 kinks are worked out by Dismal Shadow  :o

Installed on http://www.links4jeeps.com/forum/

When I installed the package it created a subfolder called mobiqou with some files in it. I haven't published my site to the directory as of yet simply because its now working. Do I need to activate it in the Admin panel or am I missing something. ;)

It doesn't validate on the site when I click the validate button. It says "Not Installed: Server Error
"

You have to make sure your mobiqou and all files below it are with the permissions of "755"

I found it tinkering around on their website. I hope it helps somebody else that might be lost. ;)

I did notice one thing why is it requiring everybody to login when they visit any area of my website? I don't require logins to look at things.

Ok, now I'm logged in, but I"m getting "unkown error code is1"

I guess I should also mention that the errors I'm getting are from an Android phone.
If you want to test it out do a search for "Jeeps" and click on Links4jeeps.com and let me know if there are any errors or oddities unless its just my phone.

I can browse your forum via iTouch, it might be an Android problem?

EDIT : You might want to add this at the end of Subs-Mobiquo.php, it fixes a fatal issue with PHP 4.
Code: [Select]
if (!function_exists("htmlspecialchars_decode")) {
    function htmlspecialchars_decode($string, $quote_style = ENT_COMPAT) {
        return strtr($string, array_flip(get_html_translation_table(HTML_SPECIALCHARS, $quote_style)));

}

Dragoon

Thanks for the news. If it doesn't work in Android I'm at least glad it works on the iPhone.

I just tried a few other sites and I don't have the initial issues I do with my SMF site, but eventually I get the login request and the error code. So I'm either guessing my app on my phone is wacked or every forum out there is. ;) hahahaha

i had the same problem on my forum, CHMOD 755 mobiquo.php fixed the problem. i found that if you browse to {forum name} /mobiquo/mobiquo.php it returned a permission error after chmoding the file it now redirects you to the forum index.

So this app is useless for Admins and moderators then? As well as the Curve Mobile. The only way to access ACP is to use full version of the desktop.

When I go to the application in Nokia's OVI Store, I get a message telling me it's not available for my phone (the Nokia E71). Any plans to fix this? I'd love to test it out, but if it's not compatible with my phone, I can't.

Its meant as a slick little extra addition to your site. I know for a fact I have at least 5 or so people that own Iphones on my site. 2 of them thought it was a nice addition the others said well who cares. ;)

Now I'm in network and I know for a fact Ive gotten some extra visits because already today I had a new member join and thank me for adding this because he didn't know about my site until if found it in the TapaTalk network.

Personally I might play around with it some on my Android phone, but more than likely I'll continue to use my WAP2 version for checking in now and then.

I'll leave it on my site since it doesn't require much and its just another avenue to catch new members. ;)

It is not designed to be a full replacement of the desktop equivalents. And so is Curve Mobile, I never intended it to be a desktop replacement.

This does not work with multiple forum mod as it does not touch the index.php.

Thanks Dragooon to keep updating the MOD.. We have just released another update, we are very close to official 1.0 release.

Currently it works well on 1.1.11+ or 2.0 RC3 or higher. We have seen a lot of SMF forum activated Tapatalk support lately.  The only pending issues we aware of is the inability to edit your own post. Otherwise if you find any issue please let us know and we will happy to fix them.

Thanks!

I'm testing this mod also. It works great and very easy to install.

However, I don't like the idea that my users need to pay for an app, just to post to my forum.
It would make more sense if you let the site admin pay a one-time fee for using the plugin, and let users download the app for free.

Now for the second issue, can you please elaborate? Do you mean it doesn't redirect you to the Android market from the web browser?

I tried to install and that worked fine, no errors were generated.
But when i tried to verify the forum i got the "Server error 1"  message.

I have altered all permissions of the dir and the files to 755 and 777 and that didn't work.
I now deïnstalled the mod (i don't want non-working mods installed on my forum) but i can apply it if that is needed.

Any suggestions?

It installed and worked initially on my test forum.  Then it stopped working and I get "Not Installed: Server Error(1)" when trying to re-verify installation.  Have uninstalled, reinstalled, chmodded the mobiquo folder and the files within to 755 and 777.  No luck.

From the iPhone it says the forum is temporarily closed.

I'm not quite sure the exact meaning of your message.  I have chmodded the mobiquo folder and all of the files within to 755 and 777.  Still nothing.

It was actually working fine, and then I went into my forum and temporarily put it in maintenance mode to update SimpleDesk.  Ever since then it's been broken.

We have just released another round of update of the SMF plugin to address few issues. Let me know if you still have problem with it.

File permission is still a problem where you need to manually chmod the files and directories to get it to work in some cases.

Please note that on some servers it can also be an ownership issue, if nothing works try changing the owner of mobiquo folder and its files to the one of index.php in SMF's root folder.

It appears to still be the only way to reply.  I'm also having trouble getting select all to work when I reply and I want to delete the existing quote.

But Dragooon, just letting you know I did finally buy the iPhone app and so far so good.

You mean quoting to a person? You can only with a Pro version of the app.

No, I mean you can only "post" when logged in if you quote the last person as there is no option to reply or post, I have the Pro version, tfs is having the same issues, here...

If you are talking about the Android version of Tapatalk Pro, you can long-pressing (holding) the post you want to QUOTE and a list of action will popup available for you to select, including ability to QUOTE a post.

You guys could do with rewriting the queries, whilst it might be suitable for small forums it's absolutely dire on large forums, queries that take in excess of 2 minutes to run locking tables show a complete lack of attention, especially given, for the most part, you could have adapted the standard SMF ones which actually make use of the indexes.

Yes we can, absolutely. Do you have any suggestion how we can optimize this? And where is the current weak-point? Ideally if you can open an issue at http://tapatalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13 it would be also much appreciated.

Hi,

you can find the "mobiquo" folder created automatically after installation. It is placed at the root level of your forum. You will need to manually set the folder permission to 755 and also all .php files underneath with 755 permission.

Let me know if you have any problem and we are happy to answer.

Regards,

Tapatalk, If I could post and etc. with the free version on my forum only, I would use Tapatalk for browsing most forums except SMF ones.

Hi Kcmartz,

Not sure if I understand correctly. Do you mean you have some issues with the Tapatalk SMF Mod? What I can help you with?

BTW, yesterday we have just released another update for 2.0RC3 owners specifically. It has fixed ton of bugs - highly recommend!

I think he means that he doesn't like the fact that users have to pay to be able to post messages.

Me personally would like to see a system where the admin can buy a license so users can use the app for free.

As an alternative you can use the iPhone mod/theme floating around on this forum. It's a bit more work on the server side, but once you've got it running, clients do not have to install anything! And it looks great.

I recently updated Tapatalk to 0.9.13 and now I've got tens of thousands of this error.  Uninstalling Tapatalk doesn't make it go away.  Could there be a lingering issue?  Anyone else seeing this?

Code: [Select]
8: Undefined variable: parse_tags
File: /x/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 1684

The URL line is all kinds of different things.  The only program I had changed was the Tapatalk upgrade.

Line 1684...
Code: [Select]
if ($parse_tags !== array() && is_array($parse_tags))

I have installed this without no errors. Must be other mods you installed.
Try posting this on the author's thread:

If you can open a thread at our Issue Tracking forum it will get taken care of. We have spent much effort in developing the plugin and I am sure we want to get it to work on most SMF forums as possible.

I ended up uninstalling all of my mods and overwrote the forum with the SMF RC3 upgrade package.  Afterwards I reinstalled the mods, sans Tapatalk.  No more errors.  I'll probably wait for another release of Tapatalk and then give it a try again.

Sounds good.. we will probably have another release soon (we just released another update with improved third-party MOD support.

Hey guys. So today I got a pm from one of the members on my site. He said that he keeps getting the manager shutdown problem when he tries to use tapatalk to get onto the forum. We installed Tapatalk a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly fine. My smf is 1.1.11 and I thought the Tapatalk package might need to be update but there was no update on this site.

Can one of you please help me figure out what's wrong with it?

I tried this on my website, http://altmarket.net, but it tells me it cannot verify my site.

I've had the mod installed and the folder chmod to 777.

(I installed the mod for now, but left the mobiquo files on the server.)

Hi. I found out, that there is still problem with editing a post trough tapatalk app(android). I saw an older post here, stating that it is a known bug. I'd like to know if it is going to be fixed. Thanks for info. :)

EDIT: Just found info on tapatalk forum

Hi :-)

Not sure where to post about this. Installed Tapatalk SMF 2.0 RC5/Final Plugin 3.7.2 on SMF 2.0.4. Can't get any reply on Tapatalk forum, after setting up everything, then getting the error shown in attachment. One thread there contained a zip file for mobiquo_common.php, so I downloaded that and replaced the one in mobiquo directory (permissions are rightly set to 755 for actual folder ... when I check the folders within that individually they were 6 something). Still can't tell what to do.

Thanks, Cat

Make sure absolutely every single file and folder within mobiquo is set to 755.
