Nice mod.

Nice mod in general.

I'm really curious though. Why would you want to submit your forum's stats page, or memberlist, or the *help* pages which are default in SMF to external sites? You really wanna share your forum help files with social networking sites or something (because they're not identical to every other forum out there)...?
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: vbgamer45 on April 07, 2010, 08:10:33 PM
Yeah that was my issue with it too. Seems like it only makes sense for posts topics. I don't get why for memberlist, stats

not bad, however looks terrible as this bloody button looks too different. any chance allowing custom buttons?
personally I would add it right after "Print" within a message so it looks like it's a part of the template. this design works well with wordpress, but puts me off when in use like this

^^^ and profile pages too..
i believe all those extra memberlists, profile and co made the mod heavier.
It would be very nice if the next version can be trimmed down to just posts and topics.
Just a suggestion..

Arantor - I covered all of the template based files that could possibly be shared...

Regarding why it was added to the memberlist, if this mod was used on a huge forum, you could sort the memberlist or even search for something and then share that url. So I wouldn't normally have added a memberlist share button - I honestly considered leaving it out, but since it the memberlist has "sub-functions" if you will, I decided to add it. Same with the help action.

Flapjack - I have added a "customize" field to change the display of the button. Future versions I hope to add SMF based control rather than having to code it yourself.
I also considered turning the AddThis button into an inline SMF button, as you suggested however I opted out of it for v1.0. - Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep this in mind for future versions.

Afro - As I already stated, my mod was created to cover almost all sections of SMF. I appreciate the suggestion of a toggle - To be honest, that will be added in the next version for sure.

Thanks for the suggestions and kind critique everyone!

Post by: Arantor on April 08, 2010, 06:30:37 PM
Labradoodle: That's the point. A number of them are unnecessary.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Matthew K. on April 08, 2010, 06:33:12 PM
I do agree that the help page is definitely quite unnecessary, but I like covering all sections with my mods.

Regarding the memberlist, I think that it could be useful for bigger forums, however, I will definitely be adding toggles for sections leaving the button off sections such as help and memberlist by default.

Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Arantor on April 08, 2010, 06:34:15 PM
I can't imagine any forum that would want to share their memberlist on social networking sites unless their aim is to offload users. Help... definitely not.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Afro on April 09, 2010, 08:01:39 AM
We actually see your point but one of the things i consider before adding some mods is the number of files it modifies plus the importance of the mod. In this context, i believe the mod is important but heavy. I downloaded and installed it, then had to remove it again because of the files it modified. Thanks for the mod though but i just wish you see where i am coming from.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Arantor on April 09, 2010, 08:22:16 AM
Making it cover everywhere is probably worse than being specific in many cases. It is a skill to know where to draw the line.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: kizer on April 09, 2010, 02:21:20 PM
Yeah I'd only really want to share a topic. Everything else in my opinion is a bit overkill. Of course I think the idea is killer, but thats a lot.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: C4G-TK on April 15, 2010, 04:26:18 PM
I like the idea of being able to share things on the Calendar that might promote certain events that the site is having.  It goes w/o saying the importance of the posts/topics being included.

Also, I appreciate the fact that you are looking to have the ability to toggle certain aspects of the forum like the memberlist (and hopefully stats, too).
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Matthew K. on April 16, 2010, 01:02:22 PM
As many people have voiced their opinions on what should/should not be included, I may create a "plain" version that would just include topics, with the ability to use an SMF button rather than AddThis styling in addition to the full version.

C4G-TK - Thank you for your encouragement.
Once my dev laptop gets back, I will get to work on v1.1 with toggles.

As of now, I do not plan on porting AddThis back to SMF 1.1.

But, I will consider including a fairly basic version for the next version of AddThis.

I installed the mod and the settings are working (it's saving the "turn addthis on" setting), yet nothing is appearing on any of the pages that it should be.  I manually installed the mod, and I checked the code over again... I don't seem to see a problem.

I've turned AddThis on, and made Guests and Regular Members allowed to share content.

Ideas?  http://www.mazda3forums.com/ (among other sites)

I am not using an AddThis username, and I am using the standard button.

Quick question...

I installed the mod, but I haven't gone through and set up my services that I want to be able to share to like Twitter, Facebook, etc etc.  I have no problem with the button showing on the posts and such, but does the logo show on all those pages in your pictures??

(I'm talking about the attached logo.)
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Matthew K. on May 19, 2010, 02:13:34 PM
No, I added the logo in for promotional purposes. I apologize for the confusion.

Post by: C4G-TK on May 19, 2010, 02:24:22 PM
No problem!  Thanks Labradoodle!

I'm poking around on their site trying to make a custom button now!
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Matthew K. on May 19, 2010, 02:25:58 PM
Making a custom button is very easy. I do believe I added a field to enter your own url for the button? Or style?

If not, all API (Adjustments you can do via JavaScript) will be fully SMF Admin panel controllable in the next version.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: C4G-TK on May 19, 2010, 02:32:04 PM
Yeah, I'm not really sure if I can use what I created or not as it is right now.
I'm perfectly fine just using the standard small button that I selected!

I tested it out on Twitter and it worked great!

Thanks!

First up, I don't agree with branding images like that, it does confuse people.

More importantly though, when do you plan on pushing this new version? Before or after you get most of your mods updated for RC3?

/me is not being deliberately awkward here at this point, just having seen you promise you'll update things, and they've been left untouched for months.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Matthew K. on May 19, 2010, 03:17:29 PM
The reason things have been untouched for so long is because school and other things I am committed to doing before volunteer work have been filling up my whole day. When I have more time again (when school is done), I am repairing my laptop and hopefully picking up my mods development more again, as well as SMF Support.

I think this mod is great for advertising and I have been testing it for a while and have found no security issues. I think it would be nice if we didn't have to see the button when we know we don't want to use it but at least only members actually see them member list so I don't have to worry about guests viewing my member list. I really like it because it just cut down on my marketing time so thanks! I will keep watching for your updates.
Title: Re: AddThis
Post by: Matthew K. on July 09, 2010, 11:23:17 PM
Well, I did make it permission based, so it can be hidden from guests. To hide it from Admins, you can do a simple edit in Load.php that follows.

./Sources/Load.php
Code (Find) Select

if ($context['allowed_to_share'])
$context['addthis'] = '<a class="addthis_button" href="http://addthis.com/bookmark.php?v=250&amp;username=xa-'. $modSettings['addthis_un']. '">
<img src="' . (!empty($modSettings['addthis_button_type']) ? $addthis_button_type_result[$modSettings['addthis_button_type']] : '') . '" alt="Bookmark and Share" style="border:0"/></a>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js#username=xa-'. $modSettings['addthis_un']. '"></script>';

Code (Replace) Select

if ($context['allowed_to_share'] && !$context['user']['is_admin'])
$context['addthis'] = '<a class="addthis_button" href="http://addthis.com/bookmark.php?v=250&amp;username=xa-'. $modSettings['addthis_un']. '">
<img src="' . (!empty($modSettings['addthis_button_type']) ? $addthis_button_type_result[$modSettings['addthis_button_type']] : '') . '" alt="Bookmark and Share" style="border:0"/></a>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js#username=xa-'. $modSettings['addthis_un']. '"></script>';

Dear sir, (that means you Labradoodle-360)  8)

Is there a way to customize your AddThis feature to a special page? The one in question is below.

http://boricuaboxing.com/forum/index.php?action=articles;cat=1

I would love to be able to add your AddThis ability to this section.

Also wondering when will you be updating the Wibiya Integration Mod for 2.0 RC3?

Thank you :)

PS. At this time I am using the Wibiya tool bar but it's not from your mod. I tried parsing it and it did not work for me so I am using a custom HTML script from the actual Wibiya site but I would much rather have your MOD. (Just thought I would throw this in to the story of things. TY

Also my hack job tool bar don't tweet or facebook correctly either :(

That would be custom coding for a Portal. It's coding would depend on which Portal, I would take a peak at how I add a "AddThis" button to a template for my mod, and then use your Portal's support topic and find out where to add it.

As per AddThis - http://www.addthis.com/services/detail/facebook

You can show Facebook inside the AddThis Dropdown, or next to it. Also take a look at the API for AddThis: http://www.addthis.com/help/api-overview

Hope that helps...

Can I use it on SMF 2.0 RC4?

I like this mod..

Would be great to have an RC4 update for this mod. I like the link to AddThis and their analytical services that I think other social networking mods lack.

It should work with RC4, or be easily installable manually. As of now, it's not in my plans to update this mod.

Ah, shame. :(

How does one force an RC3 update to install on RC4 (getting round the wrong version message)?

Admin > Packages > Advanced > Version Emulate: SMF 2.0 RC3.

Note that I said it should work, if I made an edit in ManagePermissions I think I did, it won't work without a manual install.

Thanks, I may try updating it if that's ok?

Installed on RC5 with a few errors, but it works where I need it to work. :D Errors were on Help, Memberlist, and one other area - I forget which one.

Suki, Thank you very much..I appreciate this massively..And so far it's working great.

I have a question,it's more of I dont understand kind of thing.
IN the image below it says,
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1228.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee460%2Fkrash661%2F1-3.png&hash=34aae4cb0c8455cc4681d1a1368111b4c0497726)

Enable the AddThis script.
This will add the addthis script below the menu on the following pages:
-BoardIndex
-Profile
-Topic page.
the Addthis script will share the entire page rather than an specific part of the forum.

MY question is,what/where exactly is the menu? cause it's only showing at the top of my site on every page in the described list.
the image below is a screen shot of where it's located on my site.

Miss All Sunday is no longer supporting this modification, from the sound of it, as she merged it with another modification of hers. Therefore, you should be using that mods support topic.

I tried the mod and the newer variant of it http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2111
In both of them it seems to be a preset button (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs7.addthis.com%2Fstatic%2Fbtn%2Fv2%2Flg-share-en.gif&hash=c76f27fcf63b503863cb20cc0c983984e8988bfd), not connected to the personalt account created at AddThis, where its possible to see statistics of sharing, and design your own button and how it will work.  See attached "Addthis 1".

Does anyone now what to change to get the personal AddThis-code into this mod?  See attached "Addthis 3".

Notice of Termination of AddThis Services.

What's Changing?

As part of a periodic product portfolio review, Oracle has made the business decision to terminate all AddThis services effective as of May 31, 2023.
watch video graphic
Key Dates

Existing AddThis users can expect that after May 31, 2023:

    the user must immediately cease its use of AddThis services, and promptly remove all AddThis related code and technology from its websites;
    AddThis buttons may disappear from the user's websites;
    the AddThis dashboard associated with the user's registration for AddThis, and all support for AddThis services, will no longer be available;
all features of AddThis configured to interoperate with user's websites, any other Oracle services, or any third-party tools and plug-ins will no longer function.

Oracle thanks you for your attention and understanding in this matter, and for the many years of allowing Oracle to provide this service to you.
How Do I Uninstall the AddThis Button?

If you've copied and pasted the code into your website, go back into the code and look for <!-- ADDTHIS BUTTON BEGIN --> and <!-- ADDTHIS BUTTON END -->, then delete these lines and any code between them. If you've used another method to install AddThis on your page, please contact us and we'll be happy to help you.
