Title: Page not found after shifting
Post by: codevarun on April 12, 2010, 06:02:46 AM
Hello Friends
How are you?
I shifted my forum to forums.helponrelation.com from helponrelation.com then I was unable to open it.
Then I downloaded the page from IDM and open that it was opening.
I used that downloaded page and login using username and password then I logged in and site get opened everytime even i logged out
Now the problem is that I am getting the emails of my friends that my site is not getting opened
I gave them the same solution but I can't give every one the same solution.

More thing: Those who were not the member or never open the site are able to open it.

I have cleared the cache and rename the cookie still its the issue.
Can you pls be kind to help me out?
Thanks

Hi, have did you run repair_settings.php to correct the paths? After doing so, go into the theme settings and correct the paths there.

What is repair_settings.php? (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=663.0)

Something to check is to go into the Admin CP> Server Settings > Cookies and Sessions and check the following:

Enable local storage of cookies - unchecked
Use subdomain independent cookies - checked
Use database driven sessions - checked

I can get access to forums.helponrelation.com. It loads fine for me.

Have you tried another browser?

Hello Kay
As I said that the guy who never visited can open my site and access it but not the one who has onced open that before I shifted.

I have tried the different browsers and I had already talk to the host provider for the subdomain issue every thing is fine that side.

I have asked my friends as well and they have the same issue that they can't access my site for some hours and then they can access it once logged out again they can't for hour or two

Try to switch off the forum cache for some time ( a day or maybe two)

I am not able to open my site how can I do this? :'(

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at forums.helponrelation.com.

Try helponrelation.com/forums and uncheck that subdomain cookie setting if you get access.

To me it still looks like a cookie issue. Somewhere. ::)

But you've tried all of the usual stuff to no avail but I'm kind of at a loss right now.

I have registered at your site and haven't experienced this problem. But I do notice that your pages do load awfully slow and tend to lock up both of my browsers. Both logged in and out.

For the time being I have changed the url of the forum to helponrelation.com/forums
just to make changes

I have set the caching to no caching (it was already unchecked I did that in morning 5 hrs ago)
I have unchecked the subdomain settings

PS:
Can you tell me how can I increase the speed?

You can increase the speed by removing some of the garbage on that page. No offense, but t there's way too much and it's slowing things down.

What you suggest no offense either :D
Should I remove anything that don't need to be there?

What about the problem (forums.helponrelation.com still not getting opened)

PS: Should one choose subdirectory or subdomain as forum?

Basically, yes. :D

For a start get rid of the popup. Most people have popup blockers enabled anyways. There's also those floaty thingies. Besides being annoying, they can be cpu intensive. A bit like a snow script. They can lag a page. That's a good place to start.

I prefer to use a sub-folder for the forms rather than a sub-domain. Sub-domains always seem to give some form of grief. Especially if you're trying to integrate it with a site.

I am still able to login after logging out closing the page.

Kays I appreciate that you tried your best to help me. But still I am not able  to open forums.helponrelation.com  nor some of the members don't know why I have tried all the things
Is there anything we left to notice?

About removing the contents ... I will remove as much as possible thanks for the advise.
I am thinking of installing the joomla for the main site
If there is any bridge for free b/w smf2 and joomla1.5 pls let me know?
PS:
I heard that subdomain management is easy and subfolder is good for the seo

I have set up sites in subdomains without problems. But using sub-domains in a site doesn't always go well for me.

There's no official bridge for Joomla. But I believe there's a third party one. Search the Bridges and Integration board and I'm sure you'll find reference to it. As well as other useful info on the subject.

Now that you've logged in are you able to stay logged in?

Good, glad to hear that.:)

I wonder if it could be a DNS thing seeing that things have settled down now.

Actually only four friends are there in my site (members) who are also in my chat and saying that they are able to open that.
I don't know about the rest ..

That time will tell

PS:
Pls Kays try to help my community website helponrelation.com to make this world little better

Kays if you got some trouble then I am newbie why should I take the chance?

For the time being I have shifted my site to helponrelation.com/forums

That's just from personal experiences. I use SSI.php a lot and having the forums in a folder makes things a bit easier. Also  then there's less hassles with cookies.
