EDIT:

One Problem:

I'm running on Beta 3, and I get:

Hehe sorry i've no running Version 1.1 beta's so i don't know if there any changes in the database...
and i only give the 1.0.1-1.0.4 in the package-info.xml file free.
If you realy want test the mod in 1.1 beta 3 you must change the line "install for" and add the 1.1 beta 3. ;D
but the use is than for your own risk

I am a patient man. When ever you feel like testing it for Beta 3 is okay. Do it whenever you're ready.

Hi

I cant get it installed

always

2. Execute Modification index.php Failure

Permissions for that file should be ok, for some other mods it has worked fine, so I dont believe that there is an permission issue,

Any idea?

EDIT: Found the issue, started the package manager from mambo link, not directly from forum...

@ChaosEnergy: Oh is the problem than cleared? ;)

I've change the package-info.xml so that it work in the beta's, too. The code from the normal 1.0 schould also work in the beta's, because i found no changes in this parts of the beta version. (currently untested but i sure that it work.)

Yes first issue is fixed

I only needed to remove some double entries.afte some proceed tries...dont know why package manager has edited some files 2-3times...

and a last issue...

you edit the german template (nice) but...you dont copy the button into the folder....

i did this manually so german looks better then with a missing button...

OMG! That's what I needed so much! Thanks for this awesome MOD!

For French and Russian users, open the archive with 7Zip, then open the .tar archive you'll see inside, then EDIT the .mod file and add this:

<edit file>
$languagedir/index.french.php
</edit file>

<search for>
$txt['merge_check'] = 'Fusionner?';
$txt['merge_no_poll'] = 'Pas de sondage';
</search for>

<add after>
$txt['merge_doublepost'] = 'Fusionner les Doubles Posts';
$txt['merge_error_dbpo'] = 'Vous n\'avez pas les permissions pour faire ceci!';
$txt['merge_error_notf'] = 'Désolé, aucun post à fusionner n\'a été trouvé.';
$txt['merge_error_noid'] = 'Ce message ou sujet n\'a pas été trouvé!';
</add after>

<edit file>
$languagedir/index.russian.php
</edit file>

<search for>
$txt['merge_check'] = 'Соединить?';
$txt['merge_no_poll'] = 'Нет голосования';
</search for>

<add after>
$txt['merge_doublepost'] = 'Соединить двойные собщения';
$txt['merge_error_dbpo'] = 'У вас нет на это прав!';
$txt['merge_error_notf'] = 'Извините, сообщение не найдено.';
$txt['merge_error_noid'] = 'Сообщение или тема не найдена!';

hmmm normal it should be the same from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 XD.
But i see through the code *g* off a fresh install.

So the file is not Changed since 1.0.1 so it should work in you install, too.

Did you install any mods?

If i need to change this Version, i add the Translations in the Mod Files =).

well most MODs work cross-used, so you should look into it to maybe optimise something to make it able to function?
Cause its a great mod, but it doesnt work on my SMF 1.0.4 forum with ALOT of mods installed.

I like the concept for this mod, but I'm a bit confused as to it's usage. I installed it, but where does the button appear? The "test posts" are at http://forum.finalfantasyq.com/index.php?topic=144.msg6441#msg6441

Edit: Never mind, found the problem: re-uploading a source file after applying a mod to it doesn't work. ;)

i have a few comments...

when the posts are merged i would've thought when you put the dates down that the actual date and time in the original post would be the first date and then inside the post near the [hr ] that would have the second time... but for me this is reversed and to me it doesn't seem very logical...

also when the [hr ] is added just above it is the date stamp now this is fine and all... but when it's merged you will have the first post and then the date stamp on the very next line... this looks very squished and cluttered... i would like to see a space added between the last line of the first post text and the date stamp :)

The problem is when i want the old date the masterdate, i must change much more things in the tables, easier for me to handle is that the new one is the master...

I think about to add some options to the forumssetting where you can say what should between the two post. :)

You can change it if you know what you are doing ;).

In the SplitTopics.php serach for this:

//First Merge the bodytext and split them with a <hr>
$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].'[br][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size][hr]'.$msn['1']['body'];

$msn['0']['body'] = older post - $msn['1']['body'] = newer post.
$msn['0']['time'] = Time older post - $msn['1']['time'] = Time newer post.

is it possible at all to actually prevent a person from posting twice in a row (except admins)....

by that i mean i have a psychotic double poster at the moment that is trying to tell me that it's not their fault they are double posting... there computer is doing it *rolls eyes*

i really wish there was something that physically prevents a poster from double posting... something like if they tried to post the second one it would come up with some sort of error stating.. "sorry you are about to double post, it is against the rules, if you want to add something to this thread please go back and edit your last post instead"... or something like that...

I think your Globalmods can use this, too. Becaue it's normal the Gmods does have the premission to edit all post, and all people wo have this right can use this button. Because i use this premission to check if the user is allowed to do this... (So it's also check if the user have the right to merge his own post as long he have the premission to change his own post).

Yeah, it's set for them to use. They figured it out themselves. This has been a lifesaver. My only request would be that you can merge more than two posts at a time. It's easily done (merge the first two, then the next two, then merge the merged posts) but it's just a suggestion for future versions. :)

Anyone tried this mod with SMF 1.1 RC1? I had it installed on Public Beta 3 - worked fine. Thinking of installing it on RC1.

Also, din1031 - is it possible for a code to "automatically" merge consequent posts. I saw the functionality on such a mod on vB3. If a user just replies twice to the previous message - posts a merged. IF HE/ShE Quotes some different users/topics in his posts - they are not merged.

I've just successfully installed it on RC1 :)

all you need to do is unzip the package, open the "package-info.xml" file in notepad

find
<install for="1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 1.0.4, 1.1 Beta 1, 1.1 Beta 2, 1.1 Beta 3, 1.1 Beta 3 Public">

replace with
<install for="1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 1.0.4, 1.1 Beta 1, 1.1 Beta 2, 1.1 Beta 3, 1.1 Beta 3 Public, 1.1 RC1">

then just zip it back up, load and install... simple :)

The Theme Changes in the Display.template.php of the classic theme are not made :).

Search in the classic/Display.template.php for

// Can the user modify the contents of this post?
if ($message['can_modify'])
echo '
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=post;msg=', $message['id'], ';topic=', $context['current_topic'], '.', $context['start'], ';sesc=', $context['session_id'], '">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/modify.gif" alt="' . $txt[66] . '" border="0" />' : $txt[17]), '</a>';

and add before this

//Doublepost for Merge?
if ($message['can_modify'] && $message['doublepost']['postok'] && !empty($message['doublepost']['lastpostid']))
echo '
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=mergeposts;pid=', $message['id'], ';msnid=', $message['doublepost']['lastpostid'], ';topic=', $context['current_topic'], '">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/mergeposts.gif" alt="'.$txt['merge_doublepost'].'" title="'.$txt['merge_doublepost'].'" border="0" />' : $txt['merge_doublepost'] ), '</a>';

Diffrent Post from same posters. (Only after you klick on the icon).

If the last Post Merged thie topic would be bumped to the top, because its like a edit or new post who made the same thing :).

I meant to make the mod merge the bumping topics automatically.

can this mod not be automated
such that a double post automatically merges with the above one
without the need of a mod having to do it manually...

Could be madeable but... there a lot of things to do so that it work :x.

hmmm... *think*... hmmm.... XD i've a simple idea but i must test it ;).

Version 1.01

Some new Option added

- Automatic Merge on new post (with some option).
- Some extra Settings for merged text :)

And for this i must split the mod for version 1.05 and 1.1rc1...

DoublePostMerge101.tar.gz for SMF Version 1.0X and DoublePostMerge101.rc1.tar.gz for SMF Version 1.1RC1.

Do you think theres any chance you'd be able to modify the mod to disable double posting for regular members all together?  :-\

How do you mean this?

in the current Version you can switch on a option who merge it automatic with the post before (if someone exist).

Or did you mean the member can not merge posts together... or what did you mean... can you explain it a liittle bit more?.

I was told to ask here after someone posted a link here when I posted asking if double posting can be restricted to just forum staff members period. Merging two posts is great if you have members who don't double post often, but if it becomes an issue, and you just have to keep merging those posts - even when a member doesn't mean to do it and its not worthy of some sort of discipline - is there a way to just shut off double posting all together for folks other then forum staff?

hmmm yes it madeable, you mean a option for this in the premissions?
Did i do this, than there could be problems with the automatic merge... difficult... i think about it... did i found a solution for this than i add it to the mod... (need some good thinking...). Okay currently only user who allowed to edit his own post or all posts are allowed to use or see the button XD. But i think about it :).

Version 1.02 released... only a small bugfix... << (This bug exists since Version 0.99)

To fix it here is the code:

<edit file>
$sourcedir/Display.php
</edit file>

<search for>
if ($start != 0 && $modSettings['defaultMaxMessages'] != -1) {
$postbefore = $start - 1;
</search for>

<replace>
if ($_REQUEST['start'] != 0 && $modSettings['defaultMaxMessages'] != -1) {
$postbefore = $_REQUEST['start'] - 1;
</replace>

yeah
and maybe this time the mod should be automated
so no staff member would have to click "doublepost"
it would simply merge with the above post
when a user posts twice
can we have something like that?

So i look at my code and i do correct this values. For the memberdata update i use a forum function for the other things i don't find any function who made this but i look for it. Hmmm i think this values are cached so it's not viewable instantly.
I could try to find the function who used by the forum to correct this values... but i know that it corrected in the script :x.

Nowhere... currently if the user allowed to "edit own post" in the board premission the merge appear (and work), if he not allowed to do that the user can't merge the post ;). The "edit any post" premission can merge all posts from same usern.

Ok, done.
After installing the mod, that is what I changed:

In Display.template.php on my style before:

// Can the user modify the contents of this post?

I added:

//Doublepost for Merge?
$MergePosts_button = $settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/mergeposts.gif" alt="'.$txt['merge_doublepost'].'" Title="'.$txt['merge_doublepost'].'" border="0" />' : $txt['merge_doublepost'];

if ($message['can_modify'] && $message['doublepost']['postok'] && !empty($message['doublepost']['lastpostid']))
echo '
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=mergeposts;pid=', $message['id'], ';msnid=', $message['doublepost']['lastpostid'], ';topic=', $context['current_topic'], '">', $MergePosts_button, '</a>';

Also the button mergeposts.gif had to be added to my language dir.

Btw:
Your mod generates errors.
In mod file instead:
index.php
You should use:
$boarddir/index.php

and instead:
Themes/default/Display.template.php
You should use:
$themedir/Display.template.php

btw2:
$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].(empty($modSettings['MergePost_NoHR']) ? (empty($modSettings['MergePost_OldTimeAdd']) ? '[br][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size]' : '').'[hr]' : '[br]').$msn['1']['body'];

I think it looks better:
$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].(empty($modSettings['MergePost_NoHR']) ? (empty($modSettings['MergePost_OldTimeAdd']) ? '[hr][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size][br]' : '[hr]') : '[br]').$msn['1']['body'];

btw3:
Great idea with this automerge function :)

$config_vars = array(

array('check', 'MergePost_Automatic'),
array('int', 'MergePost_AutomaticTime'),
'',
//Admin can made Doubleposts
array('check', 'MergePost_AdminDoublePost'),
'',
// Some Order option for the merging :X?
array('check', 'MergePost_OldTimeAdd'),
array('check', 'MergePost_NoHR'),
);

// Saving?
if (isset($_GET['save']))
{
saveDBSettings($config_vars);
redirectexit('action=featuresettings;sa=MergePosts');
}

$context['post_url'] = $scripturl . '?action=featuresettings2;save;sa=MergePosts';
$context['settings_title'] = $txt['MergePost_Headline'];

prepareDBSettingContext($config_vars);
}

Hi DIN1031,

Your mod has been very useful.  :D It helped merged 3 posts (within 7 mins) into 1 post:
http://www.fivearts.net/index.php/topic,66.msg310.html#msg310

In the above post, you might have noticed that I have added two BR before HR and one BR after, like this:
[BR][BR][HR][BR]

By moving the "Posted on" away from the HR, it seems clearer the "Posted on" is refering to the message above it.

After using Merge Double Post, one thing I am concerned is the merging of 2 long posts. It will become a very long post. At the moment I only have an example of a long post and a short post merged: http://www.fivearts.net/index.php/topic,18.msg113.html#msg113

Is it possible to include a setting to decide how many words or characters before merging 2 posts?
For example:
post1 (90 words or less) + post2 (90 words or less) = to merge
post1 (90 words or less) + post2 (91 words or more) = to merge
post1 (90 words or more) + post2 (90 words or less) = to merge
post1 (91 words or more) + post2 (91 words or more) = do not merge

post1 (90 words or less) + post2 (90 words or less) + post3 (90 words or less) = merge post 1 and 2 (if 1+2 = 90 words or less, merge post3. if 1+2 = 91 words or more, do not merge post 3)

I noticed that in Admin > Post and Topics (smf1.1rc2) there is already a rule:
Maximum allowed post size: [box] characters

So there might be some way of counting characters? Will you be considering this idea?

cheers,
:)

Hi DIN1031,

QuoteYou did changed the Postet at there to Posted XD if i think correct xD
:P yes, thanks for the reminder. I had also added 2 "br' into SplitTopics.php. :P

I have changed them back and now uninstalled without any error..

QuoteUninstall Actions "Merge Double Posts":
Installing this package will perform the following actions:
Type   Action   Description
1.   Execute Modification   ./index.php   Test successful
2.   Execute Modification   ./Sources/Display.php   Test successful

Any chance of adding an "Unmerge" feature?

Hi DIN1031,

Downloaded 1.04. This time I made the changes in the mod files before installing.  ;D

These are the changes for your reference.

1. Added 2 br before hr. (Just my preference.)
'[hr]' :
to
'[br][br][hr]' :

2. "Posted at" to "Posted on"
"...post lenth!" to "...post length!"

Quote$txt['search_date_posted'] = 'Posted at';
$txt['merge_error_lenth'] = 'The merged post have reached the maximum post lenth!';
to
Quote$txt['search_date_posted'] = 'Posted on';
$txt['merge_error_lenth'] = 'The merged post have reached the maximum post length!';

3. "doubelposts" to "doubleposts"

Quote$txt['MergePost_AdminDoublePost'] = 'Merge new "Admin" doubelposts';
to
Quote$txt['MergePost_AdminDoublePost'] = 'Merge new "Admin" doubleposts';

4. "post lenth" to "post length"

Quote$txt['MergePost_IgnorePostLenth'] = 'Ignore the maximum post lenth';
to
Quote$txt['MergePost_IgnorePostLenth'] = 'Ignore the maximum post length';

Many thanks again for making this mod.
:D

That didnt make any sense, but I got the gist of it.

Anyway, basically since your mod changes the colour on the display.template.php and well, everywhere. Users might want to change more than just the colour. They might want to change the HTML around the user too. In the example above, the administrators would appear in Red, Bold, Italic.

I've installed this mod to my 1.1 rc2 (default theme). When English is selected there's no problem except that it shows the "modify.gif" instead of the "merge.gif". And when i change to my own language (Turkish) it doesn't write anything near the button. That's really strange because i've added the needed codes to both the modsettings.turkish.php and index.turkish.php. ???

You can set in the Forum Settings, how many letters can be used in one post. I think you use 0 for unlimited ;). That's the only way i found out where this error ocurr. Or you disable the post size check that could also creat this error :).

Hello all, first tx for a useful mod.

We are using 1.1.RC2...

If the merging posts have ' (single quote) or \ (back slash) in the context (some smileys also have), an error page appears with the message something like "error in SQL syntax in SELECT FROM bla bla..." and merge operation fails.

1. Is it possible to be escaped the "dangerous" characters?
2. Can this situation prone to an SQL injection hacking?
3. If can not be escaped, can this arouse a problem for "Automatic merging" for example loss of the last post and needs a retype?

I have uninstalled the mod, because the answer to the second question is unclear for me.

I am a newbie, sorry in advance :)

hmmm i test this... but hmmmm i look, but i'm sure that this work because my forum use this button very offen... and i never saw this but i look ;).

(Normal it's not posibble to use SQL insection with the script, but i test this too ;D).

Because SMF first made a normal post and than i merge it in the database.

If there really a bug, than i will fix it.

8.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/languages/index.english.php    Success
9.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/languages/ModSettings.english.php    Success

Anyway to fix that? I have these mods installed so far:

Hmmm Difficult to tell what you must do exactly.

Okay my Mod normal change follow things in this file:

<edit file>
$sourcedir/ModSettings.php
</edit file>

<search for>
array('rule'),
);
</search for>

<add before>
array('rule'),
array('heading', &$txt['MergePost_Headline']),
//Merge Post :)
array('check', 'MergePost_Automatic'),
array('int', 'MergePost_AutomaticTime'),
array('check', 'MergePost_AdminDoublePost'),
array('check', 'MergePost_OldTimeAdd'),
array('check', 'MergePost_NoHR'),
array('check', 'MergePost_IgnorePostLenth'),
</add before>

It could be that the part

array('rule'),
);

is not any more avaible in your version.

You can try to find this:

array('rule'),
// One day events or multi-day?
array('check', 'cal_allowspan'),
array('int', 'cal_maxspan'),

and after that

array('rule'),
array('heading', &$txt['MergePost_Headline']),
//Merge Post :)
array('check', 'MergePost_Automatic'),
array('int', 'MergePost_AutomaticTime'),
array('check', 'MergePost_AdminDoublePost'),
array('check', 'MergePost_OldTimeAdd'),
array('check', 'MergePost_NoHR'),
array('check', 'MergePost_IgnorePostLenth'),

If it not work for you *shrug* than i don't know what you did change in the ModSettings.php that it not work.

Version 1.05 is the latest version of this Double Post Function right ?

Does it work for SMF 1.1 RC 2 ?

Previously i've installed Version 1.03 then i uninstall it. This is the uninstall process.

2.    Execute Modification    ./index.php    Success
3.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Display.php    Success

QuoteVersion 1.03 (Only for 1.1RC2)

Work know in 1.1RC2 Smiley. (I Love the new Default theme :x)

For older SMF Versions use 1.02... (no more updates for old versions).

The only downloadable Mod Version 1.02 I see is the German pack. Is there somewhere I can download version 1.02 because 1.05 does not work for my SMF version 1.0.7. Or, if there is a way I can get 1.05 to work with SMF 1.0.7 let me know. The error I get is:

3.     Execute Modification     ./Sources/Display.php     Failure

Really cool mod and I would love to get it to work on my forums.

Thanks

Display.template.php.. Find the place for the 2nd edit there in the install.xml or similar..

Instead of their code use: //Doublepost for Merge?
      if ($message['can_modify'] && $message['doublepost']['postok'] && !empty($message['doublepost']['lastpostid']))
         echo '
                           <a href="', $scripturl, '?action=mergeposts;pid=', $message['id'], ';msnid=', $message['doublepost']['lastpostid'], ';topic=', $context['current_topic'], '"><img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . hmmm idea... hmmm only a idea...

Search for in SplitTopic.php

// Merge the post ;)
db_query("
UPDATE {$db_prefix}messages
SET body = '{$newbody}' $oldsubject
WHERE ID_MSG = $newpostid
LIMIT 1", __FILE__, __LINE__);

replace with...

// Merge the post ;)
db_query("
UPDATE {$db_prefix}messages
SET body = '".mysql_escape_string($newbody)."' $oldsubject
WHERE ID_MSG = $newpostid
LIMIT 1", __FILE__, __LINE__);

but it's untested only a first thought to clear the problem... normal it should not happend because the msg are already preparsed from smf...

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask this, so I apologize if I should've started a new support thread on this.

We're running SMF v1.0.7, and this mod installed perfectly...works great, by the way.  :)  We're running it with the date / time stamp enabled, and would like to customize it a little.

Right now, it looks like this:

End of first post.

We'd like to add a line-break and another HR before the date / time stamp, make it bold, and change the color so it stands out more.  Can someone tell me where / what I'd need to edit to do this?

Thank you kindly!  :)

Simple ;)

Search in the SplitTopics.php for

$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].(empty($modSettings['MergePost_NoHR']) ? (empty($modSettings['MergePost_OldTimeAdd']) ? '[br][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size]' : '').'[hr]' : '[br]').$msn['1']['body'];

and replace it with

$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].(empty($modSettings['MergePost_NoHR']) ? (empty($modSettings['MergePost_OldTimeAdd']) ? '[br][b][color=red][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size][/color][/b]' : '').'[hr]' : '[br]').$msn['1']['body'];

The change was there -> '[br][b][color=red][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size][/color][/b]' ... some time in the future i will add a textfeld to made a small editable way of this part... (when i got some time <<... but currently i see no light for the time...).

i'm not sure if this has already been brought up before but is there a way of setting the mod up so that it does not merge the double postings of a particular staff group... i know that you can set it so that it doesn't merge admin posts but what about other groups?

if i say wants to have all group=3 posts not merged is there a way of doing this??
Title: Re: Merge Double Posts By Same Member

Possible yes, because there is option to ignore Admin post in doubleposting hmmm i think i must look what is to change to made it workable. XD

Subs-Post.php

if(!empty($modSettings['MergePost_Automatic']) && !($user_info['is_admin'] && empty($modSettings['MergePost_AdminDoublePost']))) {

This Code is don't merge the admin posts if the Admin Double Post Option is set, nomal there you cann something like $user_info['is_mod'] to find the moderator of this board, or in_array('2', $user_info['groups']) for global mods.

Example for the Replacment

if(!empty($modSettings['MergePost_Automatic']) && !(($user_info['is_admin'] || $user_info['is_mod'] || in_array('2', $user_info['groups'])) && empty($modSettings['MergePost_AdminDoublePost']))) {

So now it would not automerge admin, mods and gmods post. As long the option enabled for not merging admin posts xD.

If you want, here it is the Portuguese strings

index.portuguese.php
$txt['merge_doublepost'] = 'Posts Duplos';
$txt['merge_error_dbpo'] = 'Não tem permissões para fazer isto!';
$txt['merge_error_notf'] = 'Não foram encontrados Posts para juntar.';
$txt['merge_error_noid'] = 'O ID da Mensagem ou do Topic não foi encontrado!';
$txt['search_date_posted'] = 'Posted on';
$txt['merge_error_lenth'] = 'O post unico ultrapassou o tamanho máximo de um post!';

ModSettings.portuguese.php
$txt['MergePost_Headline'] = 'Post duplo';
$txt['MergePost_Automatic'] = 'Unir automáticamente os novos posts duplos';
$txt['MergePost_AutomaticTime'] = 'Tempo entre posts com união automática, em segundos.<font size=1>(<b>0 = sempre</b>)</font>';
$txt['MergePost_AdminDoublePost'] = 'Merge new "Admin" doubleposts';
$txt['MergePost_OldTimeAdd'] = 'Não adicionar o tempo antigo, antes da linha [hr] do novo post';
$txt['MergePost_NoHR'] = 'Não mostrar a linha de divisão nem data no novo post unido';
$txt['MergePost_IgnorePostLenth'] = 'Ignorar o tamanho máximo do post';

I think that is ok, one string I dont' understand the real meaning...

This is when the old post is made, if the option is enabled to show the old post time of the post.

So, I think that in Portuguese is something like this:

$txt['search_date_posted'] = 'Postado em';

But, this is my big confusion :P

$txt['MergePost_AdminDoublePost'] = 'Merge new "Admin" doubleposts';

So the mod should now installable in 1.1.1 but currently it's untestet by me, because i'm not at home and i've currently no new running 1.1.1 smf ;). But after i look into the patch file i think it should work, because nothing is changed what i search. But i will test it if i'm home again.

I have installed this great Mod.

I have a small question
By default there is no enter between the user post and the date (see picture)
-How do I @ an enter between that?

Second one
-how do I put my own default text between there?
Posted on: January 06, 2007, 01:12:59 PM This post is merged it is not allowed to double post. Please read the Forum Rules.

Please can anyone help me?

The easiest way, if you like a text before the the posted on:

Change the $txt['search_date_posted'] = 'Posted on'; in the $languagedir/index.english.php

You can change it to:

$txt['search_date_posted'] = 'This post is merged it is not allowed to double post. Please read the Forum Rules.[br]Posted on';
Title: Re: Merge Double Posts By Same Member
Post by: Office Online on January 06, 2007, 09:50:27 AM
thanks for the tip but sorry this is not where I am looking for.

found this in the SplitTopic.php
$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].(empty($modSettings['MergePost_NoHR']) ? (empty($modSettings['MergePost_OldTimeAdd']) ? '[br][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size]' : '').'[hr]' : '[br]').$msn['1']['body'];

What I did is made an new entry to the language file
$txt['Post_rules'] = 'This post is merged it is not allowed to double post. Please read the Forum Rules';

I want the txt behind the date I treid to put the new language code ($txt['Post_rules']) in de code in the SplitTopic.php. But it seems not to work. Do you have any idee?

Title: Re: Merge Double Posts By Same Member
Post by: ディン1031 on January 06, 2007, 10:06:31 AM
At least i hope you put the $txt['Post_rules'] in the index.english.php or in the Modifications.english.php, if you done this than you can made it workable xD

$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].(empty($modSettings['MergePost_NoHR']) ? (empty($modSettings['MergePost_OldTimeAdd']) ? '[br][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[/size]' : '').'[hr]' : '[br]').$msn['1']['body'];

replace with

$newbody = $msn['0']['body'].(empty($modSettings['MergePost_NoHR']) ? (empty($modSettings['MergePost_OldTimeAdd']) ? '[br][size=1]'.$txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'].'[br]'.$txt['Post_rules'].'[/size]' : '').'[hr]' : '[br]').$msn['1']['body'];

Now the text would add after the time ;), but only if you enable the time option :x, if you like it somewhere else say it is possible to put it at least everywhere xD.

Post 1:

Reply #2 Date = 06/01/07
Reply #3 Date = 05/01/07

Deppend on how you merged the post...

my mod merged everytime the new one into the old one, but it's possible to mix this ;P if you merge to many from oldest to newest or mix the merging ;).

And i can't check it any more with one the newest and which one the older is ;P, because i insert only the information of the merged post :x.

I use it with SMF 1.1.2 and I have 2 little problems:

1) The button "Merge Post" does not appear if using any Theme except default. Why so?
2) Russian is not supported, but this problem can be solved by manual editing of index.russian.php (index.russian-utf8.php) and ModSettings.russian.php (ModSettings.russian-utf8.php).

Manual isn't hard, though...I think that's what I did, and it works beautifully.

First it should apear a button to install... 1.1.1-1.1.2 <- is in the package.xml file.

Second:
One part of the change in the ModSettings.php schould be replaced more than one time (the package mangager make this automatic), if you not do this the option will not work.

7.     Execute Modification     ./Themes/amber/Display.template.php     Test failed

could it be a clash with another mod? I have the following mods already installed:

CAPTCHA (code verification)      0.1
Googlebot & Spiders Mod      2.0.3
Create Topic on Report to Moderator      0.2

Hi
Mod is working fine with my SMF 1.1.2 - i had to change my UTF-8 Language-Files by Hand.

Two things i recognized is:

This Mod always adds the current USER Language to the 'search_date_posted'-Variable - it would be nice if the Boards-Default-Language could be added - or you somehow manage it to Post the 'search_date_posted'-Variable in the Language the User selected inside the Post (but i think this won't work because you edit the messages directly)

Could you add a Carriage-Return (one free Line) after the First Post when Merging it - both Topics together look very squeezed.

First it should apear a button to install... 1.1.1-1.1.2 <- is in the package.xml file.

Second:
One part of the change in the ModSettings.php schould be replaced more than one time (the package mangager make this automatic), if you not do this the option will not work.

Hi asked for help before but no one answered me :(

I'm currently on 1.1.2 - When I try to install the mod I get an error on test install

"7.     Execute Modification     ./Themes/amber/Display.template.php     Test failed"

I've had a look at the install files - to correct this would I have to change the DoublePostMerge1.1rc2.mod file where it says ....

<edit file>
$themedir/Display.template.php
</edit file>

to ...

<edit file>
$themedir/amber/Display.template.php
</edit file>

there is no Display.template.php in the base /Themes/ directory only in the current theme (amber)  that's set as default.

If this isn't the way to fix this can someone please tell me what IS the correct way

Thanks

Version 1.0.7

- Fixed a other "'" problem... please update a soon as possible, i thought smf did prepare this before adding it to the db... but somehow it did not...
- The installer include a update for 1.0.6, if the upgrade do not appear, uninstall the old Version and install a new one!

Please update a soon a possible!

ERROR:

I've opened "Display.template.php" and this is line 430:

Quoteif ($message['can_modify'] && $message['doublepost']['postok'] && !empty($message['doublepost']['lastpostid']))

Is there anything wrong with this? I know that before there was a button next to reply/modify that said "merge" and it would merge old posts together...

this is no longer available.. and i don't know why.. does this line have something to do with it?

its causing heaaapssss of errors in the log! thanks.

I talk about a another file, you posted the lines in of the Display.template.php... that something else... can you give me your Display.php... Than i can tell you if it correct installed.

The other thing do you use a other theme? (Possible that there is the misstake, i can test it only on the core theme).

(You should upgrade to 1.0.7, a imported bugfix is made).

Yes I enabled automatic merge from admin panel.

But when a user sends double it doesnt merge.

it works only if I use the merge option while I am admin in the post. And then it merges the post of the user.

auto merge is selected, and the maksimum message limit is selected. the others are not selected.

Is it possible to make this mod so that only board admins and global moderators can merge posts instead of all members having the option to merge their own posts without removing the whole option to modify posts?

Also I saw that you said about an automatic merge option on the updated version - I've successfully installed the update but where would I find the settings for this?

I see something in

about automatic merge - so it shouldn't be affected by a theme, perhaps I need to manually update the language files?

Technically, neither of your mods work properly and are buggy.  Maybe you shouldnt post something till your sure it doesnt conflict with YOUR other mods.

In the Merge Options ;)
Time between the posts with automatic merge, in seconds.

24h = 60*60*24 *calculating* 3600*24 = 72000 + 4 * 3600 = 72000 + 14400 = 86400 seconds for a day ;).

Elo,
I've been trying to modify the Display.template.php file manually in the IGOH Dual theme, but it's too complicated for me...
Some lines are much different as in the mod file, for example:
<edit file>
$themedir/Display.template.php
</edit file>

<search for>
$split_button = create_button('split.gif', 'smf251', 'smf251', 'align="middle"');
</search for>

But in the theme file, there is nothing like $split_button = create_button I'm confused at this point ???
If someone would be helpful to insert/modify the missing code in this file... Thank you in advance.  :)

I'm running this on v1.1.3, and have run into a couple of problems...

I'm not sure if they're from the manual merging, or the automatic ones, but my Error Log suddenly starting filling up with these two errors:

Quote8: Undefined index: search_date_posted
File: /home/essen6/public_html/tcf/Sources/SplitTopics.php
Line: 1184

and

QuoteApply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
8: Undefined index: merge_doublepost
File: /home/essen6/public_html/tcf/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 3572

This is line 1184 of the SplitTopics.php file:
$date = $txt['search_date_posted'].': '.$msn['0']['Time'];

And this is line 3572 of the Subs.php file:
return '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/buttons/' . $name . '" alt="' . $txt[$alt] . '" ' . $custom . ' />' . ($label != '' ? '<b>' . $txt[$label] . '</b>' : '');

Any idea as to what may be causing this?

Ah than it logical, i only change the standard files, not the english-utf8 files... you must insert the language changes for the English file sin the english-utf-8 files than the error should disappear.

Which files would those be?  I tried changing the board to English, and that didn't resolve the problem.

EDIT:  I take that back...the only one I still get is this one...

$txt['merge_doublepost'] = 'Double Posts';
$txt['merge_error_dbpo'] = 'You are not allowed to do this!';
$txt['merge_error_notf'] = 'Sorry, no Posts found to Merge.';
$txt['merge_error_noid'] = 'No Message ID or Topic found!';
$txt['search_date_posted'] = 'Posted on';

Hi DIN1031,
You're mod is wonderful! I already installed it and I saw the "doublepost" option on replies. But, I can't see the option that says "Doublepost" on the features and options.

I know this is only a small issue, and I'm sure you can help me out.

Thanks :)

Shaiss - If you have any other mods installed, you might be hitting that error in the display.php .  What I'd do is just manually mod the file for display.php, as it seems that's your only problem.

If you're not sure how to mod it, or what needs to be changed/put where, etc, lemme know, and I'll be  more than happy to help.

Hi!

I use a slightly modfied version of the latest wow template (i don't know the exact name).

Will this mod work with it? Do I have to be afraid, that installing this mod will mess up my theme?

How do I install it for the custom theme instead of the default?

I would like to use this, but I don't dare to install it.

Normal you can install it over the package Manger.
But you can first look if the install of the themechanges are possible for your theme :x before installing it. http://jmusic.ddo.jp/DIN1031/modparser/index.php?action=installMod&smfVersion=1.1.3&name=DoublePostMerge108&theme

I installed this mod on a modified WoW theme manually, but the button doesn't show up and the posts don't automerge even if I check this option in the admin section.

What do I do wrong?

In the theme there were some differences to the "search for" lines. I don't know if this was the problem. For example there were no "array(rule)" text originally, which I added somewhere I thought it would e appropriate.

Does somebody have an idea, what can be done to get it work?
Title: Re: Merge Double Posts By Same Member
Post by: ディン1031 on September 02, 2007, 08:48:45 AM
@Hunnenkönig

There are some reasons why it could not work ;).

If you not enable that Admin posts also be merged it will not merge the posts of Admins.
And the Automerge Option will only work if the user is allowed to edit own or any post, if not than the merge are not allowed ;) and will not be done.

For the not appearing button there are many reasons :x. Can i've a small look in you current Display.template.php, did you made the language specific changes?

Thanks for reply!

Editing posts are enabled for regular users. I also checked the admin-merge.

I uploaded the image file into the images folder and made the language changes. The textes appear in the admin section in every language.

The display.template is downloadable under http://3dmagicbox.com/downloads/Display.rar

EDIT:
I got it! I stupid c*nt didn't edit the ModSettings.php, only the ModSettings.english.php

Now the automerge works!

EDIT2:
I think, I did the changes from the 1.0.xx mod version, that was the problem. Still no button.
Edited the Sub-Posts.php too. Now I get the following error if I try to send a post:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare splittopics() (previously declared in /home/magicbox/public_html/forum/Sources/SplitTopics.php:122) in /home/magicbox/public_html/forum/Sources/SplitTopics.php on line 149

EDIT3:
I reedited a fresh Sub-Post.php and re-uploaded. Automerge works now.

No. Still no button.

I think, the problem is that in the wow template the following line is missing, so I can't change it:

$split_button = create_button('split.gif', 'smf251', 'smf251', 'align="middle"');

Just wanted to say, good work! Thanks a lot!

I had to modify it a bit after the installation to support French and add it in the admin panel, but except of that, it was perfect :)

Maybe a french package for further users could be interesting (don't it need personally because I did it manually, but I'm a lazy guy and so I would have been happy to find a "automatic install" french package".

So if it can help, here the translations I did for mine :

In "index.french.php" of the selected/in use template :

$txt['merge_doublepost'] = 'Double Posts';
$txt['merge_error_dbpo'] = 'Vous n\'&ecirc;tes pas autoris&eacute; &agrave; faire cela !';
$txt['merge_error_notf'] = 'Erreur aucun post &agrave; fusionner n\'a &eacute;t&eacute; trouv&eacute;.';
$txt['merge_error_noid'] = 'Aucun ID de message ou topic trouv&eacute; !';
$txt['search_date_posted'] = 'Post&eacute; le ';
$txt['merge_error_lenth'] = 'Le post fusionn&eacute; a atteint la taille maximale d\'un post !';

And in "ModSettings.french.php" of the selected/in use template :

$txt['MergePost_Headline'] = 'Double Post';
$txt['MergePost_Automatic'] = 'Fusionner automatiquement les nouveaux double posts';
$txt['MergePost_AutomaticTime'] = 'Temps limite entre deux posts pour la fusion automatique, en secondes.<font size=1> (<b>0 = infini</b>)</font>';
$txt['MergePost_AdminDoublePost'] = 'Fusionner les nouveaux double posts des "Admins"';
$txt['MergePost_OldTimeAdd'] = 'Ne pas afficher l\'heure de l\'ancien post, avant la ligne [hr] du nouveau post';
$txt['MergePost_NoHR'] = 'Ne pas afficher de ligne s&eacute;paratrice, ni l\'heure, sur le post fusionn&eacute;';
$txt['MergePost_IgnorePostLenth'] = 'Ignorer la limite de taille maximum des posts';
$txt['MergePost_Sepperator'] = 'S&eacute;parateur entre les posts (activer le en dessus)<br /><span class="smalltext">Vous pouvez utiliser les BBC pour cela. Pour l\'ancienne date du post fusionn&eacute;, utiliser la variable <strong>$date</strong> dans le champ de texte.<br />Exemple : [br][size=1]$date[/size][hr][br] (Version standard)</span>';
$txt['MergePost_OwnSepperator'] = 'Utiliser un s&eacute;parateur &agrave; part pour la s&eacute;paration des posts fusionn&eacute;s.<br /><span class="smalltext">Les options au-dessus seront d&eacute;sactiv&eacute;es</span>';

Edit : I also have a question.

Just after the "doublepost" gif button, on the right, there was a "Double Post" text which can get a click (like the button but a link). I wanted to remove the text link and just keep the .gif button as the link so I looked a bit in the Display.template.php file and I founded this line :

$MergePosts_button = create_button('doublepost.gif', 'merge_doublepost', 'merge_doublepost', 'align="middle"');

I tried to change the two "merge_doublepost" values randomly with "a", like that :

$MergePosts_button = create_button('doublepost.gif', 'a', 'a', 'align="middle"');

And here we go, it worked (the text link dissapeared, there's only the gif button link now, which is was I wanted.

However, as my modifications was a complete random act, I just wonder, it is safe to keep the "a" values instead of the "merge_doublepost" values. And if it's not, which values do I need to put to be able to keep the text links hidden/removed ?

Thanks a lot.

Edit 2 : It seems not to be safe, even if it's not a big problem. I just found that with the images disabled, the gif button dissapear, but contrary to the others, there's no text links to replace it (when images are disabled) with my modification.

Not solved but that not a big deal, I think, with this line of code : $MergePosts_button = create_button('doublepost.gif', 'a', 'a', 'align="middle"');

The button is displayed fine, there's just the problem that it don't appear like the others if you disable images in your web browser by example.

About the image I used for the button, I used the one in the archive (which I renamed "doublepost.gif" but I could have keep "mergeposts.gif", that would have been the same.).

By chance, in french, the function is also called "Double Post" so no need to change the button :) (and so you can also keep the same for the French package).

Okay i add thie Double Post Image from the english Package :).

Hmmm Okay i know your problem, normal this function is used in the default theme, you can use

//Doublepost for Merge?
if ($message['can_modify'] && $message['doublepost']['postok'] && !empty($message['doublepost']['lastpostid']))
echo '
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=mergeposts;pid=', $message['id'], ';msnid=', $message['doublepost']['lastpostid'], ';topic=', $context['current_topic'], '">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/mergeposts.gif" alt="'.$txt['merge_doublepost'].'" Title="'.$txt['merge_doublepost'].'" border="0" />' : $txt['merge_doublepost'] ), '</a>';

This is the old way of using this image ;).

Changing the last line "<a href .......... etc..."> keep showing the "Double Posts" link next to the "Button" so, at least, I put it back like before ("a", "a") to hide the link and will leave it like that if there's no other choice, that's not a big deal because chances are reallylow that someone browse/use the forum with images disabled ^^

I tried this mod and it worked without a hitch it was great until I decided to try and uninstall it.  Is there any way I can get this to re-install.  I like the mod but now it does not work.  It keeps telling me that I already have the mod and there is no new update available.  Please contact the mod maker.

If I can't un-install it and now I can't re-install it.  How am I supposed to use it?
Please someone help.  If I have to I will uninstall it by hand if someone can tell me where it is located and what was changed.

Thanks for a prompt reply in advance.

My question and my problem is I cannot un-install it.  If I could I would just re-install it.

I can't get rid of it and I can't use it because it isn't there according to the install records.
There has been some kind of malfunction and I am wondering how I fix it.

It won't work with 2.0 "out of the box" so-to-speak. It would require updating the database queries, and any of the other functions that were changed for 2.0 which Merge Double Posts relies on.

1.1.5  :'( :'( :'(

The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

Try using version_emulate.

Add ;version_emulate=1.1 to the end of the package manager's URL.

Can you tell me where?

I use it now like this;
http://XXX/index.php?action=packages;sa=install;version_emulate=1.1;package=DoublePostMerge108_for_1.1.4.zip

Is that correct? If not it won't work :(

It worked for me in 1.1.5!

All I did was open package-info.xml and add , 1.1.5 to these two lines:
   <install for="1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4">
   <uninstall for="1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4">

So they become:
   <install for="1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5">
   <uninstall for="1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5">

Then I zipped it again and uploaded the package, works like a charm, very handy! :D

It's attached. :)

I tried this (added 1.1.7) and seemed to work, only that i got a prob with the display.template.php - maybe i should modify that manually?

You really want to know, Eleglin?

Okay, this one is super-creepy... You might as well not read about it. Especially because I'm telling it, so as always with Nao, it's 10 times longer than it should be. Blame my early days as a news writer. I used to be paid by the line.

Ready for it, guys?
The reason why the mod was removed is because of a sad misunderstanding between Din1031 and I.

Basically, when I got hold of SMF 2 Beta 1 (back in September 2007), I started updating all of my 1.x mods for SMF 2.0 which weren't listed in a special topic with a list of all SMF2-compatible mods (this is what got me into beta testing SMF 2 as well). Merge Double Posts was not part of the list, so I converted it, and then sent it to Din on October 10. At this point, he replied this to me: "I allready (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=193013.msg1228680#msg1228680) convertet the mod... somehow it's not in the list for it... Bye DIN1031". As you can see, the link no longer works but that's not important. I was a bit surprised by the harshness of his answer. I couldn't help it if he didn't advertise his SMF2 port in the list. I'm only telling you this because I suspect he wasn't in a particular good mood at that time.

Anyway, since I did the conversion, I also used the opportunity to understand the inner code and made a few improvements, such as adding a [mergedate] tag that would translate to any language. At that time, I really wasn't confident with making mods at all, so I simply posted here, on this topic, a long list of changes I'd made to my own copy, and how to reproduce them, encouraging Din1031 to implement them in Merge Double Posts.

The results of this?

For a reason that still eludes me, Din declared that he was stopping development of MDP, since I was obviously (??) better at improving it than he was. He removed his mod from the mod list, and renamed his topic to another name, in order to "hide" it. He tried to declare me as the new maintainer. However, there was a problem here -- he never asked me to do it. He assigned me as the new maintainer. It was a year ago, I was barely starting to work seriously on SMF and I had absolutely no idea how to make a mod. Now would be a different matter, I'd feel up to the task, although I clearly prefer being asked to do something, and having my say in it.

This is how I remember the story. Hopefully it's faithful to what happened. I can't track down the conversation. Maybe it was removed (but by whom?), but I think it actually happened in the Charter Member board (where SMF2 mods were posted back when it wasn't public). In any case, it is true that the story was never made available to the non-Charter audience.

I find it sad that Din 'killed' his mod like that, for such a silly misunderstanding. At the time, I was hoping he would come back and start working on it again. It seems this was not to be.
Now that I actually can produce mods, I'd be willing to discuss taking over the mod (if only to apply my improvements, if someone could retrieve my original post from the Charter boards with all of my suggestions). Of course, I would rather see him take over and realize that I really, *really* never had any intention of harming anyone with my suggestions. And once again, I apologize if there was anything in my posts that made it look like I had any.

PS: you wanted the story, don't you complain now ;)

anyways, i used to use this mod and i really like it, i made some upgrades and now i can no longer install it  ::) ? i hope you or the other mod or anyone else could update this mod or atleast make a similar one maybe? this is indeed a very helpful mod, would work well esp if you're running a contest that requires a number of post before their entry to be valid (like on our forum :P LOL) to kill the spammers/double poster.

You realize that instead of double-posting (which is easy to spot and "kill"), they will spam-post to several topics instead? Much longer to clean up ;)

It's sad this mod is no longer available - I have been using it successfully for years - only recently when I did a clean install of 1.1.8 on my test site did I discover it was no longer available and the version I have cannot be installed :(

A search of the mod site brought up this (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1523) mod - would it replace this one - does it do exactly the same thing in the same way?

Title: Re: Merge Double Posts By Same Member

Basically the biggest differences are that:
1/ it doesn't allow you to merge posts via a merge button (only the auto process is available)
2/ it deletes the second post and inserts it into the first one. The MDP mod deletes the first post and inserts it into the second one. As a result, MDP bumps topics but doesn't waste entries in the message table. While the new mod doesn't bump topics (i.e. if someone posts a message ten months after his last message in a topic, it'll remain hidden far away in the message index). It's a matter of taste.

While I'm at it-- the mod from this very topic is still available there:

For SMF 1.1.x:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=278227.msg1872652#msg1872652

For SMF 2.x (with improvements by yours truly):
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=278227.msg1843408#msg1843408

They're untested with the new versions but they should work. Hopefully.
