Seems the cust team was also only using wide-screen :p

This is a very good mod. This works perfect. I ask a question, doesn't this work on quick reply area?

In addition, the important thing that user must be online. User sends a post but user isn't there?

Quick replies are just that. Quick replies. It doesn't have the other advanced features either. I won't be adding this to quick replies.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. It doesn't matter if the user is online or not, just has to be a valid user...?

Quick question.

I have a section on the forum for Community messages which I receive from the local Police ie when witnesses are required like you read in the newspapers.

Is a seperate registered account still necessary?

Since I installed this mode I have this error in the logs for any user who posts messages.

8: Undefined index: can_change_user

Any way to solve this?

I'll look into it when I get a chance. Looks like I missed something. It won't change how anything works, it will work as intended still. Just that it will spam your error log until I patch it. I'll try find time tomorrow.

Hi, I just installed this mod and it appeared to install successfully.

Now I want to use it and I'm not sure what to do.  I'm sure there's a duh in there for me, but I don't see any documentation or anything...?

I'm the "owner" (administrator) of the forum...I have a user that has created two usernames, I want to fix the situation and have just one username per person (apparently there is no way to prevent two usernames from one ip???).  I'm assuming that's what this script is for?

If I go to modify the post, I don't see any extra box to enter a new username, as the mod description implies.  Am I looking in the wrong place?  Possibly, but then please tell me where to look?

If there's a way to change a whole set of posts, that would be even better, as I want to delete the 2nd username.

Thanks!

Masterd, at present the only way would be to manually change the users post count in their account settings. It would make for a nice feature if the mod could do it on its own.

I really miss the function from the other mod where you could modify a post as an alternate user but the actual owner of the post remained intact. Its funny when you see a post modified by the "Spelling Police" and such. Being able to post as id=0 was nice too but easily worked around.

A requested function all the way back to the original mod that has yet to see the light of day is the ability to limit who could be posted as, in the permissions. ie, Group A could only post as Bob, Group B could post as Mike and Fred etc. With out that ability the mod is too powerful to use by anyone other then an admin.

did you install out of the box or did you have to change your advanced settings to match its most recent version which is for 2.0 RC3? Reason I ask is because of the UNinstall info would need to either be updated before it can be installed or it will be ok if it made to emulate rc3
Title: Re: Alternate User Posting
Post by: FireDitto on October 05, 2011, 03:30:07 AM
Quick question;

Which portion of the code would I need to alter, to make the Alternate User pick up the log-in name, as opposed to the Display name?

Because of the nature of our site, a good portion of the Display names contain apostrophes, which the mod really doesn't like. If we could get it to pick up the log-in name, we wouldn't have the issue.

Thanks =)

Bugreport; When editing a posting (changing the username) which happens to be the id_first_msg of a topic, the id_member_started is NOT changed in smf_topics.

I hope this can be fixed, also I'm looking for a query which fixes this for previous changed postings. A sort of loop trough all topics, and check if the id_member_started in smf_topics is the same as the id_member for that id_message in smf_messages. If not, overwrite the id_member_started with id_member.

I hope this is clear enough, sorry :)

replace with:

I managed to fix the issue with the below small changes.

In Subs-Post.php

$topicData[$row['id_topic']] = array(
  'subject' => $row['subject'],
  'body' => $row['body'],
  'last_id' => $row['id_last_msg'],
  'topic' => $row['id_topic'],
  'name' => $user_info['name'], <-- change to $row['poster_name']
  'exclude' => '',
);

In Post.php

$notifyData = array(
  'body' => $_POST['message'],
  'subject' => $_POST['subject'],
  'name' => $user_info['name'],
  'poster' => $user_info['id'], <-- change to isset($alt_name) && $alt_name != '' ? $alt_name : $user_info['name']
  'msg' => $msgOptions['id'],
  'board' => $board,
  'topic' => $topic,
);

I'm assuming that since the mod's creator hasn't been on for more than a year that this is a dead mod. I had been interested in this mod for the rare occasion of missing / corrupt post replacements.

I had gleaned the thread and it looks as the first post in a topic can't be correctly attributed to an alternate member, is that still the case? That would be pretty important to me using the mod as an admin. With that in mind, does the mod correctly attribute the post to the alternate user so they can modify and/or edit it themselves?

Thanks in advance.

I found this Problem also.
After changing the First Post in a topic,
the Topic is still listed as Started from the previous Starter/Owner.

Maybe theres a need to implement another DB Update !?
Is it really only needed to change the ID in only the SMF_Toppics ?

This mod is useful for handling multiple profiles.  One thing I would love to see is an automatic update of the alternate user's "last login time".  It would be nice to have that updated as the greater of it's previous value and the timestamp of the alternate post/edit.

Since this mod was updated on February 13 of this year, I'll assume it's OK to necro this post to ask a question. If it's not ok, I do apologize.

Is there a way to limit the number or names of approved users?

Ex, person A is limited to only posting as themselves, user B, or User C but not user D?

Thanks!

in sources/sub-posts.php

I can not find
'current_member' => $posterOptions['id'],

and I can't find
$topicOptions['id'], $posterOptions['id'], $msgOptions['id'])
I do however have
$topicOptions['id'], $posterOptions['id'], $msgOptions['subject'], $msgOptions['body'],
so if i just replace it like
$topicOptions['id'], !empty($posterOptions['real_id']) ? $posterOptions['real_id'] : $posterOptions['id'],  $msgOptions['subject'], $msgOptions['body'],]),
would that be ok?

I think that this and the post anonymously mod don't really work together maybe......
any help?

everything else passes, it's just those two things that are giving errors on the install....

Sorry wasn't around, I supposed you'd do these edits after installing? Maybe I misread :P

no you read fine :)
using your codes I was able to install it but then had an error when trying to use

you posted
$topicOptions['id'], !empty($posterOptions['real_id']) ? $posterOptions['real_id'] : $original_id, $msgOptions['id'])

but, I could be wrong, it needed to be
array($topicOptions['id'], !empty($posterOptions['real_id']) ? $posterOptions['real_id'] : $original_id, $msgOptions['id']),
this got rid of the error so I think it was correct hehehe (until it stops working at least)

Earlier today I discovered that even though the 'Change User' option is displayed when a calendar event is being edited the owner of the event is not updated when an alternate user name is saved (only the owner of the topic is changed) and as a result a user can own a topic linked to an event they cannot edit/delete ...

The fix for this (ie, making the event owner the same as the topic owner when an alternate user name is saved) is very simple:

In ./Sources/Post.php
Find:
QuoteUPDATE {db_prefix}calendar
            SET end_date = {date:end_date},
Replace with:
QuoteUPDATE {db_prefix}calendar
            SET id_member = {int:id_member},
               end_date = {date:end_date},

Find:
Quotearray(
               'end_date' => strftime('%Y-%m-%d', $start_time + $span * 86400),
Replace with:
Quotearray(
               'id_member' => isset($alt_id) ? $alt_id : $user_info['id'],
               'end_date' => strftime('%Y-%m-%d', $start_time + $span * 86400),

Hello.  I just want to say that this appears to be running well on an SMF 2.1 RC3, forum that I have started.

I downloaded the zip file, uploaded it to the Packages folder in the server, and extracted it there, like I do with all the Mods I installed.

But I don't have an Install link on my Admin Panel, like you can see in the image attached.

I am running SMF 2.0.18.

Did I do something wrong?

extracted it there? you don't extract a mod, you upload the zip file to the packages folder and then install the mod

2.1 version is for SMF 2.1 only
Use v1.0.1 for SMF 2.0.x

Could you please explain why not?

I already read here somewhere that it's one of the ways to do it, and I did it with all the other Mods I installed, and, I had problems only with the one you know.

I have a core group of people on one of the SMF sites I manage who create drafts of posts for others in a hidden topic area. These people then collaborate on the hidden topics and when they're finished, the topic is moved and posted under the name of the person it was created for. The problem has been that whomever starts the post has their name attached to it and this may not be the desired result. Having this mod makes this collaborative effort even better because all of the collaborators have the permission to use this mod and can post the topics under the appropriate person's name when it's ready rather then having to delete the original and have the correct author repost it entirely.

Thank you so much for this mod! We truly enjoy having this feature and being able to assign it as needed to people we trust.
