Thank you for great work, Bloc! :D

It is simple, beautiful, and very well-balanced. Especially, the arrangement of colors caught my heart. I like them very much. :D

This is the best theme for SMF. ;) ****** the default SMF theme, this should be it! :D Great job, man.

Question though, what's the HTML to add new links? >> All I want is like new links to Shop, and two other links to my main site or something.

Post by: bloc on July 01, 2005, 05:25:52 AM
Thank you. ;D

Do you want those links together with "home,help" etc? If so you need to look and copy the buttons lines in index.template.php - template_menu().

But if you rather would like them on top in the sidebar, just put your regular html code for links in the first box( admin/ current theme ) and be sure to set "show on top". :)

If you are not sure about html code for a link, its like : <a href="your_link_path">your_link_name</a>

I love your theme, but whenever it is used on my forum, a bunch of these type of messages appear on the error log:

8: Undefined index: memberCount
File: /home/jjbcdnl/public_html/foro/Themes/neptune11/Themes.template.php (eval?)
Line: 612

For that file and various other files, including some in the /Themes/default folder.  I'm not very php-savvy, however.  Anyone have any ideas?  (Some of these files don't even seem to have a line 612, and the others don't have memberCount on that line.

What version of SMF do you use? And what version of Neptune?

If you mix the two you get errors like that. "membercount" is used in SMF 1.0.5 - but not in SMF 1.1beta. So it would seem you are using a Neptune 1.0.5 version on a SMF 1.1 - which will work mostly, but are not recommended for the same reason - errors in the log.

Hm...I used to have 1.0.5, and then I upgraded to 1.1 with the upgrade script.  So something must not have upgraded right?

You now have SMF 1.1? And you used Neptune for 1.0.5 ? If so, just upload the other one instead.

Erm...I think I have all the versions right (neptune 11 and smf 1.1 beta 3), but when I look at the current version stuff in the admin center, a couple of stragling things are still 1.0 for some reason.  In any case, I've just reverted to a backup so things should be working fine now.  Thanks for your prompt assistance though :)!

For those who are using the 1.1 beta 3 public who want to correct some errors in this theme (Assume theme is not modified) (1.1 beta 3 theme only!):

index.template.php
Change Line 2
From:
Quote// Version: 1.1 Beta 3; index
To:
Quote// Version: 1.1 Beta 3 Public; index

Change Line 612
From:
Quote<b>', $modSettings['totalMessages'], '</b> ', $txt[95], ' ', $txt['smf88'], ' <b>', $modSettings['totalTopics'], '</b> ', $txt[64], ' ', $txt[525], ' <b>', $modSettings['memberCount'], '</b> ',  $txt[19], '<br />
To:

Themes.template.php
Change Line 2

ah, the "memberCount" I had forgot. Thanks for pointing it out softwareguy. Its not really an error that the version are not "beta 3 public" though - the theme IS built when beta 3 was out, not beta3 public, and it works fine in both. ;)

Errors are corrected.

Fabian , you could just download the archive again and overwrite the index.template.php file, and the errors should be gone.

I think its something with the html code you use in the extra boxes. Does it behave like that if you remove those?

Hm. If you look at my site http://www.bloczone.net/smf/index.php?action=forum in IE you will see that it doesn't show any different..so I am guessing it has to be something you added, maybe in the top of the theme? A stray <tr><td> or other non-closed tags can make that happen, but its hard to tell without actually seing the code you have now.

@Bloc

Than me  ;D I located the Prob... but he wrote faster ;)
I'm Just building a new Site, using 1.1beta3 puplic with Neptune & MKPortal for our Fan Projekt.
Think it´s gettin fine. Will post URL when ready. There´s still a Problem with the "Show on top?" Radio Buttons.
Can´t get them to "OFF". After saving they are allways on again. Don´t know why. Any Idea?
There are also some other minor Problems, but I´m not sure for now, if they are not a Problem of the Database.
THX for the fine Theme (as your´s are allways)

Nope i just used that code
here is my indextemplate.php
i ended up putting it on the bottom to fix the issue :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

<?php
// Version: 1.1 Beta 3 Public; index

/*        This template is, perhaps, the most important template in the theme.  It
        contains the main template layer that displays the header and footer of
        the forum, namely with main_above and main_below.  It also contains the
        menu sub template, which appropriately displays the menu; the init sub
        template, which is there to set the theme up; (init can be missing.) and
        the linktree sub template, which sorts out the link tree.

        The init sub template should load any data and set any hardcoded options.

        The main_above sub template is what is shown above the main content, and
        should contain anything that should be shown up there.

        The main_below sub template, conversely, is shown after the main content.
        It should probably contain the copyright statement and some other things.

        The linktree sub template should display the link tree, using the data
        in the $context['linktree'] variable.

        The menu sub template should display all the relevant buttons the user
        wants and or needs.

@bloc

I meant the Radio Buttons "Show on Top" for the 3 User Boxes on the left Table in Index.
The allwas shown "on Top". I changed the index.template.php for now. Maybe it´s a problem of the "MK Portal" integration. The Theme also don´t want to show the menu as Images. (? don't know why - but it´s all right like this)
(see it on www.fanprojekt-icedome.de ) Think this is a nice commercial for your theme ;)

Very nice! The "MKPortal-look" is also less prominent here, I like it. :)

As for making the menu with images, I have "forced" it to only use links, but there is a easy "fallback". Simply open index.template.php and search for
     $settings['use_image_buttons']=false;

Set it to true instead, and images will appear. I think the needed images are in the archive, if not let me know and I will update it with them.

I commented line out, but as i thought before - Text looks better for menu  ;)

Now i´ll look for the line, where "Show on top" is defaulted "on"  ;D
But its a wonderfull theme. I´m thinkin about changing my forums theme ( www.ihoc.de )
to one of yours or maybe make a sort of clone from both - if so i´ll let you know - and sure, your name will be in the footer too  :) Hoping for some spare time...

ah, you need to enclose it like this:

echo 'htmlcodehere';

For the top and bottom, try to find <body>'; and just add the code like above there. Likewise, find echo '</body... and add same thing BEFORE that line, then you should be fine. You might need to adjust margins and such on your code though.

Looks great. One suggestion though:

The "sidebox" stuff should be moved to the "Settings" template instead of being placed in the "Themes" template. This will make it much better because:

You can change that information without having to use the Neptune theme
When using the Neptune theme, this stuff will only show up for the Neptune theme and not for every theme you have installed
Title: Re: [Theme] Neptune (SMF 1.0.5 / SMF 1.1beta3 )
Post by: bloc on July 15, 2005, 07:20:23 PM
It should not show for every theme? It will just show it for Neptune..unless you overwrite the default Themes.template with it of course...reason for using Themes instead of Settings is that it allow more freedom in regards to default values as well as the layout.(i can use other form elements like textareas - its easier to read html code in that than in a single input box.)

And as I found out in the Simplicity thread, the language strings do not get transferred...so its still problematic to see what settings it is from another theme.

EDIT: ah, I see now really does show Neptune things if you are on any other theme..hm. Maybe I should expand the possible form elements in Themes instead...

I just installed this theme and it looks wonderful! The sidebar is fabilous thing. I have only one problem: whenever I try answer topics or create a new topic, none of the smilies will work or any of the text modification buttons. When I click on a smiley or for example the "bold" button, nothing happens. I'm using the SMF 1.1.beta3 board and I installed the right theme for it but still it won't work :/ What can I do to make it work?

That is a problem with your forum in general I think, because the Neptune theme does not have its own Post.template - it just use the default theme instead.

Do you use any mods?

Ok, the problem is that you most likely need to change the Display.template.php in your default theme folder...but its not wise to alter default theme at all, since its fallback theme for all others. ;)

Here is way to do it though:

Copy Display.template.php from default theme over to Neptune folder, and open that instead.Look for this code:

                // Show information about the poster of this message.
                echo '
                                <table width="100%" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" style="table-layout: fixed;">
                                        <tr>
                                                <td valign="top" width="16%" rowspan="2" style="overflow: hidden;">
                                                        <b>', $message['member']['link'], '</b>
                                                        <div class="smalltext">';

and change it to:
                // Show information about the poster of this message.
                echo '
                                <table width="100%" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" style="table-layout: fixed;">
                                        <tr>
                                                <td valign="top" width="16%" rowspan="2">
                                                        <b>', $message['member']['link'], '</b>
                                                        <div class="smalltext">';

This way you will change just the Neptune theme, and not mess up the default(which when you update the forum will be overwritten).

this remedied my buddy list mod & my shoutbox.

Excellent theme Bloc....One problem though. The additional sideboxes

I added Google Adsense to one and it worked spledidly putting the code where I wanted it under everything else. Then I got the bright idea to add another sidebox. Bad idea. Now, the radio button "on top" are checked for the Google box and the one below it which is empty. This knocks the Google box to the top of the sidebar. Unchecking and saving has no effect. They come back checked. Any ideas how to solve this problem? Theside boxes were tailor made for Adsense!

[slaps face] ...of course...Neptune modifies also Modifications.english.php in neptune/languages folder...and that one HAS to have these strings added:

$txt['vCal_title'] = 'vCal/iCal';
$txt['vCal_remove'] = 'Remove this event';
$txt['vCal_add'] = 'Add this event';
$txt['vCal_view'] = 'View List';
$txt['vCal_download'] = 'Download List';
$txt['vCal_empty'] = 'You have no events in your ' . $txt['vCal_title'] . ' list.';

$txt['cal_attendee_title'] = 'Attendees';
$txt['cal_attendees_no'] = 'No one is attending this event yet.';
$txt['cal_attendees_yes'] = 'Members planning to attend';
$txt['cal_attend_no'] = 'I\'ve changed my mind';
$txt['cal_attend_yes'] = 'I plan to attend this event';

$txt['enable_vCal'] = 'Enable vCal/iCal Downloads';
$txt['enable_attendees'] = 'Enable Attendee List';
$txt['cal_force_default'] = 'Force Default Board';
$txt['cal_allow_no_post'] = 'Allow Post No Topic';

$txt['cal_no_post'] = 'Post No Topic';

$txt['vCal_style'] = 'vCal/iCal download style:';
$txt['vCal_style1'] = 'Disable';
$txt['vCal_style2'] = 'vCal';
$txt['vCal_style3'] = 'iCal';

I suspect by adding these, the events will appear too.

I just noticed I have a problem with the width when using IE.
The site is http://televoip.bjornes.org

When viewing a post, the width is incorrect in IE. There is some additional space between the sidebar and the forum. I saw someone commented this earlier in this thread, but could not find a solution.

IS there a solution to this?

Great theme by the way. I was able to use it with virtually no customization at all.

Using onjy firefox/opera myself, but a lot of users use IE, so I try to test with that crappy program as well.
By the way, there is a small problem in opera as well. The links in the right top is displayed in the wrong position. In Opera they are displayed at the very top, which makes thea a little harder to read because of less contrast. No biggi though ;)

First off, it will work fine on Neptune because Neptune doesn't change either boardindex.template or messageindex.template - so those are taken from default theme.

But Neptune's style.css need to be changed. There is a .windowbg class in it, but it hasn't a background-color! ;D So it won't change anything as it is. Just add a background-color: #yourcolor; to it, and it should work fine. I can't say if it looks great..because the graphic above fades into the background-color(thats why I removed it from that class in the first place), but try it out.

I am having a bit of a problem that didn't show up until I installed it:

From the forum error log

8: Undefined index: 158bis
File: /home/distinc/public_html/Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php (eval?)

Could anyone help me?

Its the Online Users today mod that needs a extra language string. Look in themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php (or your language) for $txt['158bis'] and copy it over to Neptune's languages/Modifications.english.php.

This looks like a very cool theme!!
I would love to use Neptune on my new SMF forum, but unfortunately, something doesn't seem right.
When I downloaded and installed the Neptune theme...I actually got the "Cera" theme instead.
I used the download link for smf 1.05 thats on the first page of this thread...the zip file was called "Neptune"...but, thats not what was contained in it.

Did I miss something, or is there possibly a mix up with the zip files between those two themes??

THANKS!!! :)

THANKS Bloc for the FAST attention and that did the trick!!!

Another question...

I noticed that with the "sidebar" theme in general...the avatars have limited space and I was wondering if there was a way to stretch the pages out to compensate??

THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

Try to open index.template and find this code:

      echo '</td></tr>
                     <tr>
                         <td valign="top" id="leftarea" width="150">
                         <div style="width: 150px;">';
                         leftbar();

Changing 150 til something bigger might help.

Thanks again Bloc! :)
That did stretch out the main page via the left "side" table, but, had little to no effect on the avatars when viewing "posts".
Sorry, I failed to mention previously the avatars were fine on the main page, but get "scroll" resize bars when viewing posts.
So..I played around with the "mainarea" code...changed the width from 80% to 95% and no more scroll bars!! :)
        echo '<div id="mainarea">
                   <table style="border-left: solid 2px black; border-right: solid 2px black;" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
                     <tr><td colspan="2" id="headerarea" valign="bottom">';
                        template_menu();

THANKS AGAIN!!
I hope not to bug ya too much, but its nice to see the fast response and helpful info here....nice change from the likes of phpbb2 Support Forum!! ;) ::)

Hi Bloc. Another newby here. A few things, if you don't mind

1. I went with Neptune on my brand new 1.0.5 forum (www.tinytickets.com/forum (http://www.tinytickets.com/forum) ) even though I was going to change the colors to match the red and black in my logo, but I like it a lot better now that my logo is there and (given my inexperience) maybe I should leave well enough alone. Plus maybe there is something to be said for each part of the site having its own look and feel. You're the design pro, what do you think?

2. I followed your instructions earlier in this thread and made a new graphic in psp to replace the default Neptune image at top, but the right side (where is says 'theater forum') does not show. Is it too far over (the thing is 1600 pixels wide) or covered by the 'home, help, etc' buttons? It may not matter, I like the way it looks now and had not considered the home help etc buttons when I was doing it, but I don't want it to show up later looking strange.

3. I know how to make an href tag, but I don't know where to put the code to make my logo a link. I'm not familiar with php or dynamic pages. I found top.jpg in the css, but that's not the right place, is it? Or is this a lost cause because of the way I made the graphic?

4. I got a really strange error while trying to exit my profile edit page:
QuoteInvalid Date Registered value, valid example: 05 Nov 2005 13:47:16
I changed the time format but the error won't go away and I can't change the email address in the profile. Thoughts?

Hope this isn't too much. Thanx.

Neptune is fantastic man! RC1  Just thought I'd give you a shout out and let you know you did a great job on this one.

I have a question, and maybe it was covered already, (I'm too lazy to look) but I created a "top" banner w/ same width and legnth as your top.jpg and replaced it.  It looks great under IE/Maxthon and Firefox but under Opera the banner shows but the menu does not. iow: home, help, search, profile, admin and logout.

Any ideas?

It looks ok..but I think changing the blue hues to something more red would be better, even lighten up the colors abit to match the white in your logo.

Since its a background-image, it will just be hidden. If a user with display set to 1600 comes along, he will see it...so just make sure it doesn't land right behind the home,help,search links.

hm..the logo picture can't be made a link easily I am afraid..since its a background-image, not a ordinary image.

Hi

I am trying to change some of the colour schemes in Neptune adn I have come to a brick wall on a couple of sections.

I simply can't fathom out how to change the colours for the news block on the Home page (#658090).

I also can't work out how to change the light blue (#B4C7D2) in the main/middle section (such as the background in this message and on the home page). Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

They should all be inside index.template....the inline css should be in the stylesheet really, but there you go.

But I have another question..lol...how would I remove the "search form" in the left column? I tried commenting out the bit that I thought would do it, but that gave me some BAD errors.

I like this theme... were it not for the fact that it misbehaves in Opera, and the navigation is shoved up in the header image everywhere except on your own site. Due to that, this theme is rendered wholly unusable to me on 1.1RC2. As I said, it works fine on your site, but it's failed miserably everywhere else I tried, as far as the header goes.

This (http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/2359/problematictheme5oj.png) is what I'm referring to. Behaves in Firefox, sure, but not Opera (and I refuse to use Firefox due to all its problems, but that's a different topic entirely).

Nice work on the art, at least.

The fact that it looks ok in FF and IE - but not Opera - says something about the latter..but lets not get into that. This error I must have missed earlier, but removing the float attribute on the menu seems to make it show as it should. If you want to give it a shot, try exchanging index.template and style.css from the same archive now.

hi this is the theme i want to use. i have a problem and to be honest its doing my head in. Ive installed the theme neptune1.1rc2 and am running smf1.1rc2, so i thought it should work. What seems to be happening is that i get a mixture of the default theme and neptune which obviosly looks very strange. Ive tried reinstalling it all, checking the paths for each theme are correct trying different versions of neptune but it happens the same whatever i try. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT  :D?

You need to translate some strings that Neptune use for itself..they are just shorter versions of the ones normally used. Look in Neptune/languages folder and open Modifications.english.php. Translate the strings and save the file as Modifiations.swedish.php.

I'm running the version for 1.0.5 on 1.0.6. Yeah, I'm using the zipped file.

EDIT: Also, I noticed that when enabling the news flasher and disabling the regular news thing, I get an undefined variable "title" in /library/neptune/themes.template.php, line 453. I disabled the regular news things because it and the news flasher seem redundant. Should I be able to do this? Thanks.

I notice a difference between IE and FF in the left column.  There is an open line between 'Unread posts' and 'Unread replies' in IE, but in FF those two options follow each other immediately.

Is this possible??

I have added this link:
echo '<a target="_blank" <a href="http://ras.atomvinternatt.se/rules.html">De 10 RAS-buden</a>', $context['menu_separator'];

Is it possible to implement this rules.html, so it shows up just like the calendar do (in the middle of the page):
<a href="', $[b]scripturl, '?action=calendar[/b]">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . Adding the link to the buttons is easy enough..but to make it a separate page requires more than the theme can give you.

Hey Bloc,

Some of my users are noticing an issue with the Tree-Menu at the top of the forums.  It doesn't display unless they mouse-over it.

I've tested with IE 6, IE 6sp2, IE7 Beta 2, and FF 1.5 and I don't experience it.

I'll link to some screenshots so that you can understand what I'm talking about.  Any thoughts??

Thanks.

Bloc,

Is there a way to disable the whole left column?

Thanks!

By removing the <td> with the sidebar in index.template, yes.

Hi

I have just updated to the RC2 version from the 1.1 beta and I seem to be having problems with the home page / BoardIndex.template.php

For some reason the width will not reduce as the browser window is reduced. The rest of the forum is fine, just the home page.

Any ideas?  :'(

Hmmmm.

It seems to be a problem with showing the most recent posts at the bottom. If I switch this feature off, then the board resizes fine.

Yes, Neptune just use the defaut theme boardindex.template - and if that one have the "nowrap" attribute set in one of the tables for recent posts, it will not shrink. Remove the nowrap there and you will be fine.

Thanks for the great theme Neptune!

I'm having a little trouble turning off "Show On Top" option for the sideboxes. After I uncheck it and save, it is still checked. I tried to remove the contents of the box and then save it too, but that didn't help. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. :)

I'm using SMF 1.0.5

I use SMF 1.0.6 Norwegian

I wonder if there is an answer to that question.

My forum is pretty much just Norwegian now, but the part where the boxes for the sidebar is, it is in English. And I can't uncheck the box that says on top.

Copy Neptune/languages/Modifications.english.php to Neptune/languages/Modifications.norwegian.php and translate the strings inside.

Eller var det andre tekststrenger du tenkte på? ;)

Just installed Neptune - what a fantastic theme it works a treat and we are really pleased with it.

However I have just done something stupid and seem to have created havoc. In admin I was teaking the neptune theme. By adding html to the 3 boxes.

1st box worked fine but the 2nd -  >:( I added my google adsense script to try to place google ads in the left column and the whole forum shifted to the left and it wont let me back into admin to delete the script.

I tried to find the script via ftp but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas or should I just delete neptune and then re-install via ftp

I'm running 1.07 which I have just upgraded to www.britishminiclub.co.uk/smf (http://www.britishminiclub.co.uk/smf)

This is a screenshot of what I see www.britishminiclub.co.uk/images/forumscreenshot.jpg (http://www.britishminiclub.co.uk/images/forumscreenshot.jpg)

Try to go into default theme by typing index.php?theme=1 and then erase the Neptune theme. Install it again as a new one, it will get a new ID number and not use the previous failure code you put in.

But do check the code first..before committing it. :)

I've managed to get in by using your suggestion - Thank you very much for that. I presume I erase the neptune theme via ftp. Whats the best way to install again via ftp or through admin ?

I certainly wont be adding my google adsense code again  ;)

Admin. So you are sure to get a new theme ID number.

I deleted neptune via ftp then re-installed through admin "install a new theme" and the same thing happened again  :(

the box that says "create a copy of default named" then in the box it says "theme 1" does this have to be deleted first ?

I'm very confused why it will not work correctly.

Hey Bloc I notice you have installed Joomla for your site. Its a very good CMS to work with

You do know which date it is today? ;D

As for the theme, that was strange. Did you locate the theme zip and pressed install?

Sorted and re-installed - I can start again now and I promise I won't install any google adsense code in any of the sideboxes.

I placed some html into sidebox 1 to place 5 links back to the main site. But noticed it will only accept enough html for 2 links - is there a reason for this ?

I have downloaded and installed this theme .

1. My content is currently restricted from guests and only visible after login. However, with this theme, the side bar content is visible to guests and I don't want that to be the case.

Is there a way I can modify this theme to make the side bar and it's contents visible ONLY after log in?

is this theme likely to go RC3? Or what would I need to do to make it RC3 complient? I don't want to upgrade until I know the theme will work...

It will work fine with the RC2 version of the theme. But all my themes will be upgraded for RC3 too, in due time.

Great design Bloc!!!

I was wondering if the sidebar was able to handle any of the .ssi functions.

I want to integrate the top posters and recent posts into this side bar... I was wondering how the code would look if this is possible.

Thanks.

You can eaily hardcode the calls into index.template. The template is php, so its just a matter of calling SSI.php first - and then the function.

You could always try TinyPortal (http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?page=32) ;) that has ssi function calls already there..but if not, try search on "ssi" on this site, there are numerous topics about it.
