I'm in version 1.1.1.1, and I want to upgrade to one of the newer versions. How do I do this? If I do, are all my mods and content deleted?
MOd, yes. Data, No
Visit downloads - and get the 2.0 large upgrade package.
Then follow Upgrading SMF (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject)
PS - I would recommend you to wait for a little while.
Why should I wait? is there a new version coming soon? (you can tell I'm new to this, I know)
A release ( RC4 ) is probably not very far away , so if you upgrade now, you will loose all mods when you re upgrade to 2.o RC4.
Its your call though.
IMHO if you are, as you state, new to all this, I would stay away from the 2.0. series until it has gone gold, you would just be making a rod for your own back at the moment, 2.0 still has issues, and 1.1.11 is an excellent piece of software !
Wot Paul sed. ;)

i'll make it unanimous.
stay with what you got. ;)
Am I the only one that actually prefers v1.1.11 over v2?
It's far more intuitive, for me.
I'm beginning to run into more and more mods that either don't work fully (or at all) in 1.x, or are part of the core and work better in 2.x (paypal / subscriptions). Beta 1 of 2.0 was released in August 2007, and RC3 was about six months ago. I'm all for proper caution, but is the official advice still not to use it on live sites? When people say "new RC release soon", does "soon" mean like: next week? Next month? Next year? Is there a roadmap for an official, final 2.0 release that will be OK to run live?
