I would like to end up with a totally integrated site just like this one where the home page in the root directory is not the message board.
Just like this where there is a 'Community' link to take people to the board.
Is that easy to achieve and if it is do I install the board to the root or to a folder called 'community'?
If I do the later, how do I end up creating a home page and other pages that so seamlessy integrate with the board?
Would I be advised to use the webinstall file?
My new domain is hosted with GoDaddy so I could also install directly via my control panel with them.
I need to get all of this done asap as a lot of Trichotillomania sufferers rely on my board.
Once I know where to upload and how to get started I have a Discus board that I am going to attempt to convert over having read a thread started in 2005 where Wing created a converter.

I am assuming that to use these portal mods I need to install smf first and if so I am assuming that I do need to install it into a folder named 'community' or whatever if I want the homepage NOT to be the forum?

Sorry if I sound so stupid but I'm not that tecnical and may need some help getting started here
install SMF the install the portal you pick though the package manager. then you can use the portal to make your own homepage to see before you go to the forum. you can rename the forum link to community if you wish, but you will NOT need a folder to install anything separate it will all be part of your forum.
Have installed and uninstalled both smf and a mod package so many times and think I'll try just using smf on my new domain and then building my own web site on the old original domain with a link to the forum.
I am very used to handcoding my own sites in html using css but am struggling getting my head round how to make changes in appearance with smf.
Just to change the colours though would be nice and I'm sure I'll manage that in the end.
in the admin panel go to "Themes and Layout" then click on "Modify Themes" and you can edit the css there or you can use your ftp client and do the edits that way.
