I'm having difficulty installing smf. I'm getting this error message:
Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.
If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
Access denied for user 'moneyand_peter'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
I have contacted my (hostgator) and they have tried all they could and this error is still present. Hostgator advised me to contact the developer of smf to figure out what is wrong. This is the second forum I'm installing; the first one installed smoothly.
I urgently need help. The version of smf is 1.1.11. I tried installing version 1.1.12 earlier and I encountered the same problem.
there is not much SMF can do to help you, please verify all connection info is correct including the server, username, and password. you can check the settings.php file for you other working forum to verify you are entering the correct server if you are not sure what to enter.
always install the latest version. You should be working with 1.1.12
I am seriously disappointed in HostGator's support. Honestly? Talk to the smf developers for a problem which is clearly on the host side?
You are getting the message because the SMF installation program can not connect to the database with the values that you provided.
You need to set up the database so that it exsists (it can be empty, but it must exist and have a user with access to it)
then enter the database, the database user, and the database user's password.
Most of the time, the connection is via localhost, but sometimes it it not.... However, the Hostgator support are the ones that are going to have to help you with the establishment of the database and user.... once you have those settings correct, SMF will install.
