Otsikko: I'm so scared xD
Kirjoitti: hcfwesker - joulukuu 08, 2010, 08:49:43 IP
I've been asking millions of questions, trying to adapt to the new smf2 RC4 world, ready to upgrade from smf 1.1.11 , i believe.

My original site: http://www.brawldomain.com/

SMF2 test site: http://www.brawldomain.com/AASMF2/index.php

SMF Upgrade test site:  http://www.brawldomain.com/splash

I use cPanel for all my editing.

I'm ready to run a test upgrade.  I'm really lost, though; well, more in fear I'll do something worng.

Which zip do i go for, Do i use the smf 2 rc4 installation, or would i use the smf2 rc4 upgrade zip.

And, what would i do from there?

You would use the large upgrade package. Then run the upgrade.php after you upload files.

I would do a backup first of your database and files. You also have the option to create a backup when you run the upgrade I believe.

Would i upload those files under the test site's folders, right?  I'm doing a backup, now, but didn't think it would affect my original site, since I'm only upgrading what's under the test site's folder.

Also, do i upload the entire zip , or do i extract the files on my PC, then upload them to the test site's folder, and run the upgrade.php file.

If you using the same database it would affect both so be careful
Be sure to have a copy of the database you are upgrading and make sure your test site uses that.

Yes you would upload the files to your test site.

Each of my site's have their own database (tables) in phpmyadmin, if that's what you mean.  Does that mean they're separate.  I'm sorry, i'm just really new to all of this.

Also, my forum was originally installed through Fantastico ( i was a super noob back then)  is that gonna affect any upgrading?

Now I'm even more worried, lol.

If they are seperate databases then you are fine as well

Fantastico  does not matter

After all files are uploaded you would run the upgrade.php so yoursite.com/upgrade.php in your browser

Wow, i didn't realize i had to upload EVERY file, can't upload the folders.  I did skip the smiley & avatar images (but i got the files), is that ok.  We use customs anyways.

I'm up to the M's in sources, taking a bit.

In the themes, do i only do the default, or do i have to make the changes to all my custom themes, too?

Themes if you are using a non default theme make sure your theme supports the latest version if so then download and upload that as well.

I have all new custom themes ready from my smf2 test site, so, I wanted to just delete the ones i have from smf1, and just keep default/core that comes with smf2.

That should work.  The 1.x themes won't work on 2.0 so there's no need to keep them.  If this is solved, please mark it solved by clicking the Mark Topic Solved link at the bottom left.
