its a very nice theme but how in the hell do you change the orange font to black?????

I have gone to the index.css and change it via ftp and the frigin thing still wont change
I cant edit it via admin as the server is saying permission is denied.

Very nice theme that I just downloaded but there is 1 thing I'd like to change... delete the bar with the avatar and info and add the avatar and show unread messages etc... on the right of the header. Can you maybe explain me how to do this? Can you also update that theme to 2.0? Thanks.
