Otsikko: OK, what's going on here... Mods not working
Kirjoitti: Leto Atreides II - joulukuu 19, 2010, 08:07:07 IP
I just uploaded and applied a bunch of mods to a new forum I set up. I run several forums, add the same mods to all of them, and they've always worked... until now. I added the mod MCLegendII and a mod to turn a board into a redirection link. After applying MCLegendII I get the screen saying I'm being redirected to the Membergroup Color Legend Options page... but instead it goes to the regular features and options page; no link for the MCLegendII Options page is in evidence. And after applying the redirection link board mod and applying it, I go to make a redirection board... and there is no option to make it a redirection link.

The ONLY thing I can think of that I've done differently this time, was add an update to 1.1.12 because the 'browsing packages' page recommended it, saying that version 1.1.11 had security issues. Might this update be the culprit?

Anything in your Forum Error Log?

Also, one mod I've used before, "tidy child boards", shows errors when I attempt to apply it; I haven't had this problem before. I do notice that each error follows some attempt to use a page ending in .xml ; as far as I know, most of the pages in SMF end in .php ?

Yup... 1142 pages of error reports :o Some of the most recent ones seem to apply to my present difficulties... I shall attempt to decipher them.

Well apparently 1141 of the pages of errors relate to the mod package "bk_smf_sub_board.zip". I uninstalled and deleted it, but the other mods still aren't working... so apparently that wasn't the source of the problem.

Anything about "package_flush_cache" or similar?

No, but a lot of these: 2: gzwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource

Ah, thought so.

The modification that you have installed, could you please link me to it, as well as attach your Sources/ModSettings.php. I am suspecting that your SMF software was unable to write to your files, however SMF was tricked (at interface level) and was convinced they installed (but really didn't).

Make sure all your files are writable (0777 and 0755 is best, refer to How do I chmod? / what is chmod? (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=477.0)), and make sure that the FTP details supplied in your admin center are correct (and by correct I mean that it's pointing to your SMF installation).

For mod related questions it is best to ask the mod author. You can find a link to a topic for the mod or a support board on the mod's page in the Mod Site (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/).

It has nothing to do with any particular mods because all mods on the mod site have been properly tested to at least install right.

Thus this is a general question regarding file permission for mod installation. I don't know why you are asking the OP to ask the mod author when it has almost nothing to do with their mod.

their issue seems to be with the mod, smf staff only check to see that the mod will install on a default smf install without any mods installed, once you install other mods it is possible for issues to come up with other mod installs.

Yep.  And at least half of the topics that the support team answers are about installation of mods.  The fact that they were tested has nothing to do with it.

@Leto Atreides II - the MCLegendII mod doesn't add a tab.  Instead it adds a small option to the Admin > Configuration > Features and Options > Basic Features with these options:

Membergroup legend display arrangement.
(Must be separated by comma. i.e. 1,2,8,7,6,5,4)

You might consider upgrading to 1.1.12 as well.
