Whenever I try to update from RC3 to RC4, it says there was an error.

How are you trying to update, not through the package manager. ??? Have you read this:

It is through the package manager. I updated with what the error log says
read the link I posted. You should be getting one of the packages upgrade or update off of the downloads site and uploading it all through ftp and running the upgrade or update.php file from your browser.
How do I upload it through FTP? I have Filezilla up an running and I've downloaded the upgrade file, but what next?
I cannot find the upgrade.php file
Unpack the zip file on your desktop. In your ftp client upload and overwrite your existing SMF install. After that is all done browse to:
www.yoursite.com/upgrade.php or update.php
whichever one and follow the on screen instructions. If you have attachments in the attachments folder on your site that you want to keep then I would skip uploading the attachments folder from the zip file on your desktop.
okaayy; so I tried putting my site up on maintenance mode {after putting all the new files in} , and now it gives the error on every page:

Not that file. It has your password and such in it.
Oh.
Well, what should I do? Even the Upgrade.php doesn't work, neither does the repair_settings.php.

There's not much around that line to error. Not sure what's going on.

I recently created a new template (by editing an old one)
Maybe if you could get that file to me I can take a look for you. Not to sure how to do that right now though.
I uploaded it to a separate site and sent you the download URL
PM sent back to you. There was a url there that was probably put in for a maintenance message. I have removed it and the file is error free. It should work for you.
