Who know what this error means?
What can i do?
"Ungültige Referring Site. Bitte gehen Sie zurück und versuchen Sie es erneut."
in english:
An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.
This i get, when i try to delete older messages in only some boards with the administration center
i want to delete themes which are older then 360 day in a speziell sell/buy board.
or there is no answer since 360 days.
you might get better support if your whole post was in english or you posted in your languages support board.
In English, the message is Referring Site invalid. Please go back and try again. (Google Translate)
"speziell" is "specific[ally]"
Sorry but i got no answer in german.
i want to delet threads, which are without answer since 360 days.
I go in the admin center for this.
Fiat Scudo Peugeot Expert Citroen Jumpy PSA-Forum » Administration Center » Forum Maintenance » Topics
Then i choose spezial boards and say delete all threads which als more then 360 days without an answer.
Then i got a popup window who ask me, if i really want to do this.
When i say yes, i get this error in english.
An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.
Log out then log back in, and try again.
If that doesn't work, please confirm what version of SMF you're using.
Error!
An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.
i logout and login, try again
i delete the cache in firefox
i rename the cookie
always the same error
I try it in smf 2.0 RC3 and in smf RC4.
i have a testforum here with RC4:
http://www.werk24.org/sevel/
My real forum in under http://www.naan.de/forum/
it is the version RC3
In both boards i get the error message.
Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again. Error!
is there a solution?
See: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=415940.0 for more. It's the exact same issue.

I found a solution to my version of this issue. It was created by Ad Seller Pro which was changing a variable, $_SESSION[old_url], that SMF was relying on to perform the validity check on the referring URL. A fix was posted on the Ad Seller Pro support site. Check my thread for details.
But i have no modification like this!!!
i have only installed this mods:
-Resize Attached Images
-Deutsche Kalender Tage!
On a test site i update to rc4 an use no mods.
The problem is the same.
And are you running security software on your PC?
yes i have avira antivir.
And if you turn it off temporarily does it work then?
no, error is there
also without avira
When i use ie8 i get an error only to be on the site with themes:
../sevel/index.php?action=admin;area=maintain;sa=topics;bc65a00f=31eded066f449d70b90f32287445eec8

i get the error only when i use german_utf8
the error i get, when i want to remove old topics is also there:
An Error Has Occurred! Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.
Firstly, PLEASE have patience. Three messages in 9 minutes, especially considering that I don't read German doesn't help me to help you. Yes, I realise you still have the error regarding referring URL.
What are the privacy options set to for IE8? (since that's what you seem to be using)
Normaly i use firefox 3.5.7
i only try ie8 because it dont't work.
in ie8 i don't make privacy options.
it is all in the middle position. standard
And you're not using InPrivacy or anything in IE8...?
yes!
The error in IE8 say:
Line 583 in the index.php is wrong.
Line 583 called in de_utf8:
<span><input type="submit" value="Jetzt verschieben" onclick="if (document.getElementById('id_board_from').options[document.getElementById('id_board_from').selectedIndex].disabled || document.getElementById('id_board_from').options[document.getElementById('id_board_to').selectedIndex].disabled) return false; var confirmText = 'Sind Sie sicher, dass Sie ALLE Themen von "%board_from%" zu "%board_to%" verschieben möchten?'; return confirm(confirmText.replace(/%board_from%/, document.getElementById('id_board_from').options[document.getElementById('id_board_from').selectedIndex].text.replace(/^=+> /, '')).replace(/%board_to%/, document.getElementById('id_board_to').options[document.getElementById('id_board_to').selectedIndex].text.replace(/^=+> /, '')));" class="button_submit" /></span>
Line 583 called in en_EN
<span><input type="submit" value="Move now" onclick="if (document.getElementById('id_board_from').options[document.getElementById('id_board_from').selectedIndex].disabled || document.getElementById('id_board_from').options[document.getElementById('id_board_to').selectedIndex].disabled) return false; var confirmText = 'Are you sure you want to move ALL the topics from "%board_from%" to "%board_to%"?'; return confirm(confirmText.replace(/%board_from%/, document.getElementById('id_board_from').options[document.getElementById('id_board_from').selectedIndex].text.replace(/^=+> /, '')).replace(/%board_to%/, document.getElementById('id_board_to').options[document.getElementById('id_board_to').selectedIndex].text.replace(/^=+> /, '')));" class="button_submit" /></span>
And how is that wrong, exactly? The only thing I can see is the string isn't entity escaped, but that's not the cause of not referring the action in the URL.
ok, i think the error in ie8 has nothing to do with the problem to delete older topics.
i normally use firefox.
the problem is to delete older topic in speziall boards.
that don't work in my smf 2.0 rc3 (two mods)
don't work in my test smf 2.0rc4 (no mods)
don't work in my upgraded test smf 2.0 rc5 (no mods)
naan.de/sevel
test smf
werk24.org/sevel
Quoteok, i think the error in ie8 has nothing to do with the problem to delete older topics.
Correct, like I just said.
So it doesn't work on multiple sites, and am I correct in understanding it doesn't work in IE or FF, regardless of version?
yes it is not possible to delete older topics.
This is what i do:
I go to my smf forum.
I login as admin
I go to the topmenü "admin"
I go to the menü "Forum Maintenance"
I go to the menü "Topics"
I want to Remove all topics not posted in for 360 days, which are:
-Any sort of topic.
In specific Boards
i choose two boards
Then i click
"remove now"
Then a popup say to me: you really want to do?
I say "ok"
Then i get the error:
An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.
i go back and try again.
Then i get the error:
Yes, I realise all that.
I also know that for some reason, the HTTP_REFERER isn't including action=admin. Which makes me think there is some kind of security software, firewall, proxy server or something damaging/removing that header.
hmm!??
i use here a speedport router from the german telekom
http://www.telekom.de/dlp/eki/downloads/Speedport/Speedport%20W%20701%20V/bedanl_Speed_W701V_Stand%2010_07.pdf
since more then 5 years.
at home i use a fritzbox 7170
That's a modem, not a firewall.
that is router and normally this have a firewall included.
http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZBox/FRITZ_Box_Fon_WLAN/index.php
But i use this router a long time without problems.
i do nothing change on the installation in my network
I didn't specifically say THAT firewall. But many software firewalls remove the HTTP_REFERER in the name of 'security', Norton packages especially.
ok
firewall can be on router and in win7 i use
i try now from an old pc with suse 11.3 on it without firewall.
linux system with firefox as browser.
it don't work.
And you're not using a proxy service? And your router doesn't change the headers it sends through?
i don't know exactly
:(
OK, so on Firefox, do you have Firebug installed?
now i have firefox 3.6.13 and firebug installed
OK, so open up Firebug, enable networking for your site, then browse, trying to carry out the operation you did before. This time, as you do the different steps, you should see the different requests being carried out in the pane at the bottom.
Most importantly, when you press the button, there should be a POST request to the page to carry out the operation - where it errors out on you. If you could do that step, then copy/paste the 'Headers' of that POST request here so I can see what's being requested of the server.

So what was the POST instruction? Was it POST /sevel/index.php?action=admin;area=maintain;sa=topics;activity=pruneold there too?
/me is very confused, since the referer is there as it should be, the session has retained integrity (otherwise it would have failed sooner)
As a workaround, you can replace this in RemoveTopic.php
// So long as you are sure... all old posts will be gone.
function RemoveOldTopics2()
{
global $modSettings, $smcFunc;
isAllowedTo('admin_forum');
checkSession('post', 'admin');
with
// So long as you are sure... all old posts will be gone.
function RemoveOldTopics2()
{
global $modSettings, $smcFunc;
isAllowedTo('admin_forum');
checkSession('post');
But it does reduce your security if you do that.
yes now ist works
http://www.naan.de/sevel/index.php?board=4.80
there are no topics older than 360 days
but i put the old file with
checkSession('post', 'admin');
on the server after i remove the old topics.
Yeah, that works.
Do you not have the problem?
I'am really allone with that?
No, I don't have the problem.
i always have the problem.
:(
i use rc5 without mods
Forum Version: SMF 2.0 RC5 (ausführlicher)
Aktuelle SMF Version: SMF 2.0 RC5
GD Version: bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
MySQL Version: 5.0.32-Debian_7etch5
PHP: 5.2.17
Server Version: Apache/2.0.54 (Debian GNU/Linux) mod_ssl/2.0.54 OpenSSL/0.9.7e PHP/5.2.17
Now i have smf 2.0.1
And the problem is always there.
Now i use 2.0.2
The problem is the same.
Any solution???
Most common cause to this error is an outdated theme, with links that will no longer work in more recent versions of SMF. Please try using the default theme, and if that doesn't work - then please identify the exact link that is not working correctly. :)
