Hey guys I am New to this....
and currently i have just Installed the SMF 1.1.12
but while browsing this site(i think this is SMF 2.0RCx)......looking at MODs and Themes....SMF 2.0RC4 looks very Appealing !! :D ;D
and it looks that there is Simply NO point in using 1.1.12 if such a GREAT thing is available....
but the download page says....that it is under testing !! and " We do NOT Recommend using SMF2.x on live sites......!!
so what should i do ??
as will i be able to shift from 1.1.12 to 2.0RCx EASILY ??
so guys please help me what to do.....
You can easily upgrade to 2.0 from 1.1.12. You must download the large upgrade package from the downloads page, then follow this guide: Upgrading SMF (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject)
Also, it is fairly safe to use 2.0 on a production site as it is nearing a final release, most of the showstopping bugs have been patched.
so can i use it(SMF 2.0RC4) on my Forum ??
or should i continue with 1.1.12( as i have not done anything yet, except installing)
and upgrade it later........
It seems stupid asking such a question........
but in anyway way you guys know tonns times more than me.........
so only u can advice me in a best possible way.... ;)
and thank you very much for replying... :) :)
You can upgrade to 2.x if you like.
You can safely use it on your forum; there is a VERY low change of bugs.
Just keep in mind that once 2.0 gold is released, you will need to upgrade again which may entail reinstalling any mods and and custom edits. The current method of upgrading from an RC version to gold is to overwrite all your forum files. This essentially uninstalls all your mods.
I would definitely recommend 2.0 RC5 if you are just starting out as the upgrade process may be less painful than going from 1.1.13 to 2.0.
