In reading the webinstall instructions I was unsure about the following:
"4) Select the version and languages
First select the version of SMF you want to install and select the languages you want to be installed at the same time. Please note that languages are tied to specific versions of SMF.
If you are a charter member or have access to other non-public packages you may fill out the login form with your Simple Machines Community Forum account information. This will allow you access to those packages."
I am not a charter member. Just signed on 1.5 years ago. Is there a cost for these? Do most of us have access to "non-public packages?
Is the webinstall package "non-public?
Any help is appreciated
The non-public packages include nightly releases available to beta testers and team members. If you're not a beta tester, charter member or team member, there is no point in signing in.
Ok, I'm not a beta tester, and therefore do not have to log in. Is the webinstall still available?
2nd, will the webinstall work ok if I am doing a' 'large upgrade from 2.0 rc2 to rc5?
Thanks
The webinstall can be used by anyone, but only those I listed above can take advantage of the extra features I pointed out.
Some have reported it not showing the RC5 upgrade option. I haven't tested nor do I remember if non-stable versions have been available prior on the web installer. the web installer get's it's information from SMF's servers, so it's possible.
Interested to know if anyone knows or has tried the webinstaller to see if there is a stable version of RC5 available there?
'Stable' is considered a Gold, or Final release of the software. The only stable version of SMF is 1.1.13. 2.0 is still considered 'in development'
Ok, I'm learning the jargon!
Does anyone know if 2.0 RC5 is available through webinstaller?
Thanks
there is an issue with the webinstall so it is best to use the normal install methods to install smf. Upgrading SMF (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject)
As is noted in the Webinstall information, it doesn't work on all servers. Because of that we recommend doing it the old fashioned way. The link that Illori posted contains the information on upgrading.
