I have a question, when I upgrade SMF to a newer version all the mods are not working so I have to edit them manually and it takes so much time. Is there a way to save them before upgrading?
When you upgrade 1.1.11 to 1.1.13, you can use the package manager to do it via 1.1.12 which doesn't require uninstalling any mods and most of them will work fine.
See http://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/ for upgrade packages to get you from 1.1.11 to 1.1.13 without having to uninstall anything.
I am sorry, I was ungrading SMF 1.1.12 to 1.1.13 via siteground link.
what is a "siteground" link?
I am using your forum via siteground hosting and there was a link to ungrade SMF to 1.1.13
and where is this link?
On the contral panel of their site: http://cpanel.siteground239.com/cpsess6525715631/frontend/Crystal/fantastico/autoinstallhome.php?app=SMF
please use the link provided above to use the upgrade package, or the link in your admin panel. more then likely that link will wipe all your files and could also wipe your database.
Just did it and my forum went down... :(
define "went down", that does not tell us anything about what you are seeing and what you did exactly that caused the issue.
I just upgraded the SMF using the link in admin CP and after that there is a white screen.
can you provide a link to your forum? it may help us debug your issue.
It works now but once a while there is a blank page. Here is the link to the site: http://bharatconnect.net/forum
well if it is working now, i would recommend marking this solved and contact your host the next time you see the blank pages, it may be a server issue.
I would like to ask when are you planning to upgrade SMF 1.1.13 to 2.0 so that it would be safe to use it on a production site?
according to http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=432988 2.0 should go gold this month, at that time most if not all bugs should be fixed and it should be safe to use on a production site without that warning, but keep in mind this forum and many others are using the RC's.
Are there any difference between SMF 2.0 and 2.0 RC's 4, 5?
feature wise nothing, code wise yes there are differences including security patches.
Does it mean that I can install the mod for the SMF compatible with 2.0 RC3, 2.0 RC4, 2.0 RC5 versions?
some mods that are 2.0 RC3 may or may not install on 2.0 as there were some somewhat major changes when RC4 was released.
Will it be just 2.0 or 2.0 and RC's? I am really looking forward to be able to install a adk blog for our forum but not sure if it is still will be possible.
can you clarify your question a bit? i am somewhat confused as to what you are asking.
Yes, sure, I really need to install something like adk blog on my forum but it wasn't possible with SMF 1.1.13. So I was wondering if it will be possible to install this mode with 2.0 version?
if it works with 2.0 it should install, but you are best to ask in their support thread as the users and author will know best.
It says that this mod is compatible with 2.0 RC3, 2.0 RC4, 2.0 RC5 so I am not really sure if it will work...
if it works with 2.0 RC5 it will work with 2.0 gold
That's really great, I will try it out when SMF 2.0 gold is realized.
I would like to ask one question, will I loose all mods which I installed after this upgrade?
when you upgrade to 2.0 all mods need to be reinstalled, given that they have been upgraded to work with 2.0.
What a pity, I edited some of them manually to make them work...
Marking this topic as solved, feel free to reopen it if you have any further queries ;).
Just wanted to ask one more question, I can see on my forum that I can upgrade it to the version 1.1.14 but not to the 2.0, should I first upgrade to this one? Will it be possible to upgrade to the 2.0 after that?
you dont need to upgrade to 1.1.14 first if you want to upgrade to 2.0, you can go directly to 2.0.
Where can I get the link to upgrade to 2.0? I thought to upgrade to 1.1.14 first as there is a link on the forum itself.
on the download page
Upgrading SMF (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading)
I tried to upgrade my test forum and I got this message, can it be fixed somehow? I am afraid that I will loose all the information on the main site if it gives the same error.
